Hello. I am trying to create a piece of music that utilizes violin harmonics. I have Finale Allegro 2007, and I can place the little diamond shape over the notes, but they don't sound any different. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: As there is approximately e^(πi)+1 chance that I will get this recorded by real musicians, does anyone know how to get the playback to sound right?
-
I'm not that sure, but I just HAD to point out that this
e^(πi)+1
is awesome. ;D

what is "ni"?
-
its {pi}{i}. ;)

its {pi}{i}. ;)
Awesome!
Also, update your dragon eggs, mride and yunhua98
-
yeah, it didn't copy over very well from MS Word.
And hey, I haven't been able to get on here very often. (But I really do need to update those)
-
yeah. :P
I kinda lost interest in DragCave, maybe I should remove them and add something useful, or just reduce my sig size lol. :P
-
Same. I'm not raising them anymore or anything.
But, does anyone have an answer to my original post?
-
is this going to be for calc, or for actually recording and stuff?
-
Oh, I'm writing it for that Daemons game Homer is making. (The Game is a computer game)
-
hmm... In that case, I'm not sure...
any other musicians around?

any other musicians around?
Do I count? :P
-
yup! I really haven't played string instruments though, and haven't ever touched composing...
-
Are you asking how it should sound different, or how to make it sound different in finale?
-
How to make it sound different in Finale. I just have Finale Allegro, though.
-
I don't know if there's a way to do it in Allegro. But if you have Human Playback in Finale Allegro, see if there's a "Human Playback Custom Style dialog box" where you can check the checkbox entitled "String Harmonics"
-
I do have Human Playback! I'll go check it out...
EDIT: Hmm....It was already checked...maybe I'm doing something else wrong. The little diamond symbol above the note is used to denote harmonics, right?

Also, make sure Human Playback style is set to "Standard" instead of "None." That was always one of my problems. Yes, the little diamond above the note is used to denote harmonics. Just make sure that the diamond note is a PERFECT FOURTH above your desired note.

Hmm, diamond?... Normally they are written as circles... Or a diamond shaped note when playing false harmonics to denote which is the harmonic... And not just perfect fourths, also string octaves =P (Also, are you writing both notes in the false harmonics?)

Hmmmm...interesting, I thought octaves were only used for natural harmonics
-
I've been looking, and I think it should work, but how do you change the notehead to be diamond? I can place a diamond above a note with the articulation tool, but I can't figure out how to make the actual notehead a diamond.
-
Diamond + regular @ fourth (+- circle) = false harmonic; (Diamond/regular) + circle @ octave of string = natural harmonic

Does Allegro have plugins?
-
I think so, yes.
-
Use the "easy harmonics" plug-in. Select the notes that are perfect fourths and then run this plugin to turn the top note into a harmonic note
