Title: Pirate. Metal.
Post by: arglactable on October 27, 2009, 08:59:59 pm
In the course of my many nerdy activities on the internet I've stumbled upon what may well be the most awesome thing ever. PIRATE. METAL. Yes, you read this correctly. PIRATE. METAL. Metal, with pirate-oriented lyrics (and decent musicianship). One band in particular, which blends pure piratey awesomeness with folk metal, is called Alestorm. There a couple others, but Alestorm is by far the best in my opinion. Check this out.

Nice, some of it reminds me a bit Luca Turrili and Rhapsody of Fire, due to the medievalness. I kinda like medieval/celtic metal.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure both of those bands would be classified as "folk metal," so I'm not surprised that they would sound similar (albeitm minus the TOTALLY AWESOME pirate lyrics).

Actually, Rhapsody of Fire and Lucca Turrili are called "symphonic epic metal". Some call them power metal, but I think they're more into a sub-branch of power metal. Regardless I kinda like them, altough newer Rhapsody stuff wasn,t as great as in 1997-2002 imo.

Ah yes, so they are. I suppose the "epic" is more or less replaced with "pirate," for a similar (but superior due to its pirateyness) effect.

I wouldn't say it's really superior, but it's different and I like it as much as epic. Epic is more to design metal with epic style that usually talks about medieval/draconic/LOTR-ish battles

Alestorm was Battleheart before.
I like captain's Morgan revenge.

I laughed as soon as I saw the keytar come out.

Metal... with pirates... accordians... and keytars.

I have seen everything. :P

Lol

I like when they come up with different music stuff sometimes. It gets boring to always hear the same type of music on radio sometimes

By the way, this song is pretty good. Thanks to Keoni29 for reminding me of this band and pirate metal. IIRC I saw the name elsewhere recently, so I should check out if they will have a concert at one point soon. :)

EDIT: 12/1/2013   Alestorm   Le Cercle   Quebec City Que *.*

Same. The problem though is that I think I work on both Saturday-Sunday from 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM on that weekend and I already have a concert on Nov 29th that might end at 2 AM or so >.<

Also money could be an issue unless I don't go to the Vanier Cup (College football Canadian championship)
