Title: Prog Rock
Post by: Speler on August 09, 2007, 05:48:00 am
This topic is for general prog rock discussion and worship.  Lately prog (and to a lesser degree ska) is all I listen too and I'm wondering if anyone else here enjoys it.

If you don't know what prog is, some notable bands that are considered prog include Pink Floyd, Rush, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull, Yes and Soft Machine.  I recomend all of them to everyone.  If you enjoy them and are looking for some more good bands tell me :)smile.gif.

Cure, what's a good Electric Light Orchestra album, I've never listened to them (though I've heard great things).

By the way, has anyone here heard of Acid Mothers Temple, they are uber-cool.

I remember liking A New New World Record, and Eldorado.  Actually, those were the only two I listened completely, but they're both good.

I don't really follow artists--for me, it depends on the song.  Only a few artists find their way into a playlist for me--Demon Hunter is the only one who's found themselves on my iPod.  Of course, I'm betting that at least 75% of the time I see a song presented in a manner that includes video games (or a really good movie), I will drag the song from it.  (i.e. Rise (Origa), first heard during a Metroid Prime tribute, Capital G (Nine Inch Nails), first heard in a WoW movie, or Extreme Ways (Moby), the credits music for the Bourne Supremacy.)  Of course, the music from the game itself often worms its way into my iPod...

13/359 songs on my iPod are not video-game related.  That's about 3%.

IMO, the original is always the best.  Check http://downloads.khinsider.com/game-soundtracks/browse/all for OST's (and a few remixes)--Downloading all the songs you want is a pain, but it's definitely worth it.  I have only not found a single game whose music I wanted, and that was on an ancient obsolete-even-in-it's-day gaming machine.  I like the Smash Bros. Great Medley--best use of 14 minutes I ever saw!

All I can offer is http://gh.ffshrine.org/. It has a huge selection of original video game music and remixes. However, the stupid ads can be a problem, especially the one with the talking smilies...

The police are cool, they're not prog though.  They are probably the most famous ska band *ever* though.

I'm still trying to figure out what the top-left red stuff is.

I 'aquired' Busse Woods, The Early Years, Zoroaster, and III. This is my kind of rock.
