I am sure some of you heard about that japaneese artist/band, but Saitama Saisyu Heiki produced many power metal covers of video game music (mostly retro games and including unused VGM). I think the result is pretty awesome. It would fit very well in action-packed side scrollers or shoot-em-ups.
The original page is in japaneese but you can download some of their mp3s there. Sadly, not all of them are available on their site. Some are on Youtube and the rest on torrent sites
Some of my favorite songs from them are
"Ys I - Crossroad Of Sadness" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQ5o7aawu54)
"Final Fantasy VI - The Decisive Battle" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvS0REaNCLE).
This is another cool one (slightly different style, though) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfSWN1cIn4s&fmt=18).
Their style is usually like that, but they also have some darker songs too and some slower, non-metal songs.

Epic necropost!
Anyway, I wanted to post some of my favorite SSH songs as well, and I figured it'd be better to do so here, rather then start a new topic that might eventually get merged with this one anyways.
Touhou 7 - Phantom Ensemble (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npM5fOTxZCE&feature=related)
Touhou 6 - Septette for the Dead Queen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwSyCew4KWo&feature=related)
Touhou 10 - Cemetery of Onbashira ~ Grave of Being (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQ9531pX43M&feature=related)
Touhou 10 - The Venerable Ancient Battlefield ~ Suwa Foughten Field (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dE4bAFhRhA)
The last song reminds me of how much I hate Touhou 10's last boss, which makes the song that much more epic to me.

Yeah SSH seems pretty epic indeed.

That reminds me, I still need to listen to some more of their songs. I used two in the 9th anniversary Omnimaga tribute, actually.
