I have no idea if I'm posting this in the right section or not but oh well...
So recently I tried to go to the TIMGUL archives to download some more music that mysteriously disappeared from my computers (both my music and others), but an error page shows up. Has it been completely removed? Or is it just down for the moment due to technical difficulties or whatever??

Don't quote me on it, but I *think* TIMGUL is dead. I think there's a topic floating around somewhere about it, let me see if I can find it. *Edit*here: http://ourl.ca/15955

Yeah I noticed that too a few weeks ago. It seems that there was DNS issues with the domain name on juju/Sorunome's end, but they unfortunately lost the password to the 1and1 account where the mtv-music-generator.com domain name was located.
I believe that the archives are still online somewhere on julosoft.net or juju2143.ca, but juju would need to give you the IP address and the path so you can access them again. In any case I think the domain name (mtv-music-generator.com) is doomed, but the files are still online somewhere. I had the same problem with xlib.mtv-music-generator.com (except that for some people it still seems to work).
@Art of camelot: When TIMGUL closed, it moved to http://archives.mtv-music-generator.com as a read-only site. All songs after July 2011 were lost in a backup corruption, but the rest remained intact. It only got totally unreachable recently. I think that Juju might have stopped paying for the domain name or something and 1and1 locked the account.

Yeah I know TIMGUL is dead (has been for quite some time now), but there was an archive set up were people can just download music and look at old posts, but couldn't post anything or make new accounts

Oh, I see. It does appear to be completely down at the moment. I'm not sure then. :/

I'm the maintainer of the TIMGUL archives, it's indeed down due to difficulties and not completely removed. Rest reassured, I still have a backup on my hard drive and I can always bring it back up on request. It's not a DNS issue or something, just it's not online right now.
Otherwise, yes TIMGUL ceased its activities, became read-only and redirected all its users to the music section of Omnimaga.

I thought juju couldn't pay the bill, thus it moved to my server, meaning that a ip wouldn't work......or do you mean direct ip to my server? If yes, where? :P

Yeah, couldn't pay the server bill, thus I moved to Sorunome's. If you don't mind, the archive is about 4GB.

I won't mind in 2 months though, because then i upgraded my server ;)

Oh I thought TIMGUL was on Julosoft, which you still had? Or did the entire Julosoft network move on Sorunome's server?
And yeah TIMGUL is hard to host anywhere because it used to be like 6 GB large or so due to all MP3 files.

Ah I see then. Hopefully you can fix the MTVMG domain name, but I guess if it can't be fixed, then maybe it can be moved to something like timgul.omnimaga.org or timgul.reubenquest.net then old members warned that it moved in case they need songs. As for whatever is located on xlib.mtv-music-generator.com, Omni admins could add a new word filter that automatically replaces old image links with a new URL, so that old Omni news no longer have broken pics (especially the classic OS 2.71 MP screenies :P).

Good news: The server on which TIMGUL was hosted after closing seems to be back online. TIMGUL is available at http://198.27.76.15/archives.mtv-music-generator.com/ , for now.
Bad news: It is unclear how long this will remain online. Hopefully when Sorunome upgrades his server, TIMGUL could be moved there, but I don't know if the www.mtv-music-generator.com domain name is still paid for, so the new URL would probably be something like timgul.reubenquest.net or mtvmg.reubenquest.net.

I'll clarify DJ's post a little:
- According to the Whois, the domain name will expire on October 2014, so it means someone payed for it on October 2013.
- Next payment for the server hosting it is on January 1st and it's, as DJ said, unclear if it will remain online after this. You might want to donate just here (http://julosoft.net/donate.php) so you can help. (I don't think I'll have any problems by then, I usually get them in the summer time when I have no revenue at all.) Of course, we'll consider moving to Sorunome's when he upgrades his server.

It might be a good idea to do a backup now, though (as well as the other stuff you got there that isn't on Sorunome server).

Anyways, does the server use a lot of resources? If no i'd have nothing against hosting it.

This forum never used much resources. The problem is that it's like 5 GB large due to the 900+ MP3 files available for download there.

*idea* you could create a google drive or something that is 5gb and i'll mount it on my server -> win
EDIT: Or you pursuade me to let go of 5gb of my 25gb free space :P

Hm, for some reason I didn't changed the DNS back to the right IP. It should be back to its original URL which is http://archives.mtv-music-generator.com/.

Thanks for this. Now if only there was a way to keep the site online forever at no or very little cost, though >.<
Although it's dead and it doesn't make much sense to keep a domain name for it anymore (other than maybe mtv-music-generator.omnimaga.org or timgul.omnimaga.org, which are free) nor paying for it, it had some great songs here and there.
