I am thinking about starting to write a few songs and I was wondering what you guys use to write yours. It will most likely be Rock with some techno undertones. I am hopping for a free music generator with some good percussion support so I can write my own drum beats and such but anything free would work. If you guys can give me links to what you use that would be helpful. :woship:

I use my bass, a pencil and a sheet of paper.

LOl yeah I do that with my drum set but I want to create the songs on the computer and export an mp3 or something.

If you want to do rock forget about the program I use (MTV Music Generator) because as good as it may be for techno it blows for rock, because the guitar samples sucks and sounds pretty much like MIDI files. You could use fruity loops, reason or cubase, but they are very expensive. For guitar sounds I really recommend real guitar though

MTV Music Generator costs around $15-25 on amazon.com, as for other softwares I think they range between $100 and $300, but nitacku may have more exact prizes

Atm I am using a pirated copy of MTVMG though because the original copy I own doesn't work (anymore) and I still have the instruction manual with CD case

DJ Omnimaga, how easy is MTVMG to first learn/use? I've been meaning to pull myself to see if I have any musical talent for a while, but I want to start off simple.

before using MTV MG I never used any music softwares before nor played real instruments.

The hardest part of learning how to use MTVMG is to memorize the controls in your head. Then you start making songs using the premade loops/riffs in the program, and when you feel a bit used to the sequencer, try to modify some of the riffs by changing instruments or note keys. After you know how to do this you can try creating your own riffs. Just make sure to work under a limited amount of instruments to not run out of RAM though. I myself use around 12 instruments per songs now (usually kickdrum, snares, hihats, cymbals, backward cymbal crash, windsweeps, synths and sometimes basslines if i use a different synth for it)

i use fruity loops, i was having a bit of trouble with it because i wanted to know what everything did, and i ended up scaring myself. i came back and figured most of it out though, alot of it isnt neccessary for amateurs. its good for anything because you can put sounds you want on it. if you play guitar, you could record yourself, and add some techno or vocals if you find any on the internet. you dont need to have a guitar to make nice guitar pieces though, ive made some nice guitar patterns and it comes with tons of sounds when you first get it also it comes with alot of beats that you can apply sounds too. i do not know the price but i know it can be found for free if you know where to look ;]

i also like how it can export mp3's directly, im planning on putting a song on omnimaga once i get it hosted somewhere.

if you try it, dont look at the samples, you will not be making things like that for a while. it is also something that scared me away at first, i thought knowing how to use everything was necessary at first

i tried fl but it was too hard for my brain, altouhg it is good if you can learn how to use it. Some professional producers use it to make their music they sell on digital labels afterward

@omnimaga Acording to the eula On most software It allows you a backup copy of the software to use if the origanal copy becomes unusable.

it does not count on nintendo ds or other cartridge based systems

yeah I know, this is why it is legal for me to own a copy. distributing it is not though

it's like if someone have a broken 83+, he can download a TI-83+ ROM image

I use Acid Pro to create my songs.
Also, I use Sytrus as a softsynth plugin.
