Title: End of Nintendo WFC. Private servers take over!
Post by: Keoni29 on May 15, 2014, 06:12:28 pm
Some really cool guys managed to set up servers for nintendo wfc games, so we can still play our online games even after nintendo shuts down the servers!
You need to register before it's too late! (You got until monday I think)

Any reason for the time limit? (Also, I need WFC friends. :))

They don't want too much server load. This measure ensures a limited amount of people use the service. In the future they won't have to bring in new gear because the load will not increase over time.

Is WFC the servers used by the original DS and the Wii? I hope this doesn't mean the 3DS and Wii U ???

Yeah, no point in them taking down the Wii U and 3DS network. Only those for the Wii and DS have been put offline.

Well, I wouldn't have been surprised if they did for the Wii U, because the console is selling poorly and there were rumors earlier this year that Nintendo might discontinue it one year from now if it continues doing so. Heck, the new SSB is coming out on both 3DS and Wii U (although both versions are different). It's a sign that they know the game won't sell more Wii U's.

I doubt the Wii U will be the next Virtual Boy (which got discontinued only 6 months after launch) but it will probably be their second worst selling console of all time at this rate.

Actually that's wrong. Nintendo licenses are coming to the U now and the sales are picking up again. The reason why it started so slow is due to really poor marketing. People were apparently not even aware that there was a new console. When it was first announced, most thought it was just a new Wii accessory, and the name has to be blamed for that.

Its a good thing that Nintendo have started pumping out some good games, the WiiU i actually picking up in sales, its ahead of the xbone at least.

If they made a smash bros bundle without the gamepad but with two pro controllers that would be awesome. I think a lot of people are turned off by it. They should have made it optional from the start. Gimmicks won't necessarily get people to buy a console. Microsoft decided to rip the kinect out of the xbox one in order to lower its price. Maybe nintendo will have to do the same with the wiiU.

Eh, yeah, but you download that once and then don't need any internet connection anymore.

That service will be online for a while after wfc for gaming shuts down.

If I buy a Wii in 3 months for some reason, I of course won't have access to official Nintendo WFC servers but will I have access to those ones even if I didn't register when the official ones where online ?

Wait, Wii channels won't lose Internet ability as well, will them ? O.O

Yes, I think so. The point of registering now is keeping your current Friend Code and data from Nintendo's servers.

true, but where is the brand new Metroid,  Zelda, Pokemon Stadium, etc? So far, we got a remake of an existing Zelda game and we will get Hyrule Warriors, which isn't even close to Zelda gameplay. When the NES and SNES came out in USA, we got brand new Zelda games just one year later.

Some guy "leaked" some upcoming releases. I am not sure how credible it is though.

I am kinda interested in the Xeno game. Hopefully it's not a super limited run like Xenoblade, which was a Gamestop exclusive.

There have been even more "leaks" over the past few days. These are definitely fake because they are fanservice to the max. The information they give aren't always consistent too.

I checked if I could play mario kart wii online, but I got an error code. Lets hope they get the servers up and running soon!

Hopefully Nintendo doesn't order them to shut down the private servers.

Why would they ? There are already unofficial servers for all the 6th gen consoles and I don't know of anyone complaining so far.

I still cannot get a connection. What is up with those servers? Are they having trouble setting it up themselves or did I make a typo in my friendcode?

Yeah but the Wii mini is limited HW wise, and you can't hack it either. :/

The wii mini is almost the same size as the regular wii, but you need more space to set it up because you cannot stack stuff on top of it anymore.

Yeah, it's more or less an issue with the GC too, though that one is actually pretty. <_<
