Title: first direct x 10 graphics cards now availabl
Post by: spengo on November 09, 2006, 09:47:00 am
Check out this beautiful babe: http://www.gpureview.com/GeForce-880-GTX-card-474.html
sexy, no? :lol:bounce2.gif

Direct x 10, shader model 4, 768MB dedicated video ram, 86.4GB/s memory bandwidth, and an utterly ridiculous amount of pipelines! This thing more than triples the performance of the previous top cards! :gah:fou.gif (it also costs $50-$800 on newegg :wacko:triso2.gif ) I may need to reserve some funds from next summers working-ness to build a desktop. o.oblink.gif

i doubt it, but i meant my pc only support normal PCI cards (not PCI-E) so all i could get is a radeon 9250 card (128 MB), there was nothing else avaliable in stores

hmm... I upgrade every 3 years or so. :oohmy.gif But then, I consider it time to upgrade when the newest game either does not run or only runs on low settings on my computers. :)smile.gif Sometimes, however, computers can still be pwning up to 5-6 years and all you need is to upgrade the graphics card and ram.

For those w/ AGP, I wouldnt count on them releasing an AGP card.  Consider yourselves lucky that you got a decent one last time.

AGP/PCI is discontinued anyway. I seriously have no idea why they installed a normal PCI motherboard in this computer, especially since it's pretty recent (summer 2005), it has no support for PCI express and AGP at all

Hmm well my last two graphics cards have been ATI, (9600xt and now x700) so I think next time I'll give nvidia a shot again. :oohmy.gif I'm good for now as I can run all the stuff I want to on high settings, but I have a feeling that won't last very long with dx10 out. o.oblink.gif

@xlibman: http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Category.asp?Category=20's got some cheap motherboards for $40 and less with AGP. Poke around for one that supports the cpu and stuff you have. :)smile.gif Oh there's even some with PCI-E for $65-ish. I seriously have no idea why you bought a pre-built computer. o.oblink.gif Build it yourself for half the price!

Nah, all you need is irc and 50 computer nerds. :)smile.gif Everything is plug-and-play these days anyways, so all you really have to do is make sure everything is compatible with everything else.
