Title: iEdge review
Post by: SirCmpwn on August 13, 2010, 11:14:44 am
Hello,
Quick review of the iEdge DS Flash Cart.
This card enables you to play both homebrew and commercial games/applications on your DS, as well as watch movies, videos, listen to music, view pictures, and more.  Homebrew applications allow you to browse the web, use IRC, check email, and more.  Some of my favorite homebrews are DS Organize (web browser and more), SNEmulDS (SNES emulator), Lameboy (GBC Emulator), and WabbitDS (Calc Emulator).  Moonshell is also great, its a media application.  Moonshell is also skinnable.
The Flash Cart itself it also nice.  It is sturdy, durable, and accepts a micro-sd card.  The firmware is nice, and it is skinnable, which can make it look awesome.  It comes with DLDI built in (this only matters if you know what DLDI is), and has built in support for cheats on tons of games.  The card is compatible with the DS, DS Lite, and DSi.
Installation is a bit of a hassle, but if you follow the instructions, you can have a functional iEdge card in a few minutes.

I give it a 9/10, and it only looses one point because of the installation hassle.  Once you get past that, it is awesome.

Nice, it's compatible with the old DS too. That's the one my bro got (which used to be mine and came with Mario Kart DS, but then I exchanged it for his 83+ when my 83+SE broke). If one day I ever start using the DS again, I might look into that.

Hmm.. I have an old R4 that only works on the DS lite and below. Maybe I'll invest in one of these so I can use it on my DSi as well. ^^.

oh yeah, you know.. I'm sorry to haul over your advertisement here, but I know what I am saying when Super Card TWO is THE best homebrew chip out there. Why do you ask? It is the only chip that is capable of emulating gameboy advance games while no other card has the processing power to do this task in a slot-1 chip. This is because it has a built-in microprocessor that no other chip has. It can also do the music, internet, video's, etc. all of what SirCmpwn said and more.

Well... my DS can already run GBA games so I wouldn't need that last one. The old DS had backwards GBA compatibility. I wonder why Nintendo got rid of it...

I did a bit of research. Apparently video support is still quite limited, so I'm gonna wait. :)

note: supercard 2 can emulate gba games on the ds and dsi

its because they want to force a new gen. of gaming.

Yeah it sucks for people who loved those old games. M$ did the same with Xbox 1 Live. They shut down original games online service to only keep it up for 360 games. I wouldn't be surprised if future versions of the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 got rid of Gamecube, Xbox and PS1/2 backwards compatibility.

ok, im looking into purchasing one of these at the end of this month. dstwo features sound enticing, but im kind of put off by the fact that i cant find their shop on the site, and a google search yields a top result of a person complaining about never receiving his...

EDIT: oh, and when i get one i shall definitely start looking into making homebrew stuff!

Actually, there is an awesome story about this.  A group of dedicated Halo 2 players were devastated when Microsoft announced Xbox Live would be shut down for classic Xbox games.  So, they didn't stop playing.  They left their consoles on 24/7 and stayed logged into Xbox Live, playing Halo 2 after the servers were shut down.  These players kept playing and playing, as several of them began to disconnect due to power outages, network problems, and consoles overheating.  The last player was kicked off 26 days after they had begun playing - 26 days after Xbox Live had been shut down.
Just goes to show how dedicated some people are to their games.

wow I didn't knew people managed to remain connected for this long! I know you could play as long as you remained online for the last time, but I did not realize it lasted this long.

As for now, there's Xbox connect, but idk if it's legal and I heard not a lot of people use it...

It's completely legal. It doesn't hack anything, basically you're doing one big system link (or LAN play, if you prefer)

BTW, IMO the best way to play gba games with a flashcart on ds is with a GBA flashcart. I just have both flashcarts in mine, works like a charm :P

GBA flashcarts are ridiculously expensive though, because they need really good Flash RAM in them that reads as it plays. DS loads into its internal RAM, so it can use slow stuff like sd cards.

Wait, why do you need GBA flashcart loading if it supports gba emulation? :P

I think I'll take my R4 clone that cost $10, SDHC, came with a 2gb SD card. All those features just don't seem worth $25. Plus, this r4 clone was super easy to set up (at least compared to my EFA Linker for the GBA.)
