I'M still debatting getting one. I'm not sure yet, though. Getting an iPod Touch means I'll also need to buy a wireless router, right?

I currently got more money so I wouldn't mind paying $199 on something.

Yep, if you want to use the web browser and download applications on it, you need a wireless router, or at least, a Wi-fi access point.

What exactly did you do? Maybe you should hit me up on IRC and I can help you, or at least point you in a better direction (people who work on jailbreaks etc).

My app recommendations would be Activator, Voice Activator, FullDrop, iFile, and XBMC.

Hi ParkerR,

As you are probably not very used to forums, noticing on Cemetech you mostly used their IRC channel, one thing to be careful on forums like here or there is to check the last post date before replying, as the person's issue might have already been resolved a long time ago. :)

I'd recommend Winterboard, Backgrounder, and Kirikae.

You don't need Backgrounder if you have iOS4.  ;)

But it does let you background stuff that doesn't support it, so it's still good to have.

Which I don't. I'm stuck with a first-gen.
At least I can iDroid it. Of course, I have a Droid, so...

Two droids are better than one. Take it to an Apple store to get the battery replaced someday, and see the look of shock on their faces.

I wonder if when you go to an Apple store they will try to sell you a 4th gen iPod Touch when you bring in or say you have a 3th gen one and stuff like that. I know some people always want to have the latest things to look cool and will buy a new iPod Touch every generation. O.O

bump.

New Question:  If I were to restore my iPod, and my last backup had a different OS, would it restore to that old OS?

If it's an iPod touch, then no.

What OS are you on now, and what OS was your old OS? If the old one is relatively new, I can probably find a link.
Also, is your iPod 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd 8Gb, or 4th gen?

3rd gen 32GB, my old OS was 4.0.0.

Try this:
http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone4/061-7381.20100621.AzSP9/iPod3,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw

Once you have it downloaded, hold down shift while clicking restore in iTunes and select this file.

If Apple is still signing OS4.0, this should work.

Isn't that the same as restoring my own restore file?

I'm 99% sure that the backup files do not contain the OS.
You would need to restore with the old OS, and then restore the backup.

Might not be possible at all, Apple may not be signing OS4.0. Last time I knew they were was December.

I'm not sure. I can find you an image, though.

Give me a minute.

Unless your iPod is jailbroken and you have saved the SHSH blobs, you can only restore to firmware that apple currently signs. 4.3 is the newest, so it is still signed. 4.2 should be fine too. I'm not sure of anything between OS4.0 and 4.2, but apple won't sign anything older then 4.0.
