Title: What is your keyboard layout?
Post by: Juju on November 11, 2011, 03:22:05 pm
This is my favorite layout, as you can type pretty much every accent with the accent dead keys.

Canadian French

I got a new keyboard with this layout, I might switch to the one above. I kinda hate this one, as I'm used to the French Canadian one.

Canadian Multilingual Standard

I also have a keyboard with this layout, I usually type in Canadian French on it.

US International (with plain US marked keys). I would use plain US, except that maybe once or twice a week I write something in Dutch and maybe just once a month I wouldn't be too lazy to actually type the correct diacritics.
So I suppose I should just switch to plain US..

I use the US-International layout.  It looks like the Canadian French keyboard with a few moved keys.

So do I -- it's really intuitive, and it's very close to the Mac layout, which I also like very much. (Instead of memorizing Alt codes, you type a special character by pressing Option and a single key that looks the most like that character.)

I just use the standard UK Qwerty layout.

But for my keyboard I use a Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/natural-ergonomic-keyboard-4000/B2M-00012), which is easily the best keyboard I've ever used in my life. For the size of it, it's quite cheap, is very comfortable, and 3 years on it still feels as rock solid as when I first got it.

I use a standard US QWERTY layout. The US international looks like a nice setup though. I may look into getting one. Which one do you have, and where is the "option" key located on it Deep?

My favorite is actually the second one you posted Juju (which was the default on every mac I tried at college a few years ago). I like the quick access to / and \ and the é key.

Btw don't you hate Windows XP keyboard setting shortcuts? I disabled them because otherwise I always accidentally triggered them.

I always used to set sticky keys off in Win XP before i found out how to disable it. So annoying... >_>

You can use a regular keyboard and change the settings if you're using windows.  The right Alt key would then become the option key.

I use a standard US one.  It used to have Russian layout stickers, but they're slowly wearing off.  Luckily there's a site called translit.ru, so I never have to touch a Russian layout again ;D

lol @Hotdog.
@Hayleia that's one awesome mouse!
@Darl181 I think my CAD teacher has that exact same keyboard

Standard US. I think the international one looks pretty cool though. Maybe I should look into getting one.

Why is everyone "getting" a US-international keyboard?
Just change the setting in your OS, the only difference is that you don't have the stickers for special chars on your keys.

Yes, that's the Belgian keyboard. It comes like that out of the shop.

I use a modified US international keymap for my keyboard. I added in math symbols and a few other things I found myself using

I wonder how long it would take me to type stuff on these different keyboards :P

I use standard US keyboard layout. Works good for typing pinyin Chinese, if you know the pinyin for it. Did try learning Dvorak but reconsidered it as all the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C Ctrl+V Ctrl+X would all be in different and possibly inconvenient places so I'm still sticking to Qwerty.
PS: I might be able to change to dvorak and modify keyboard shortcuts possibly something like Stefan Bauwens did
@epic7: would take a while, but possibly not too long.

What keyboard layouts do you guys use?

One of my friends started using dvorak so I looked into it and found colemak and am now trying to learn it. it seems interesting to see if I could type faster with it.

I used to use a customized keyboard layout for math/logic which had alt modify keys to math symbols. i think I still have it somewhere if I can find it
