You may have noticed this recently, underneath each user's info. We are trying out a new technique called community moderation. I recently wrote an add in for SMF to facilitate this feature, in which every user is given minor moderator access. You can use the control panel at the left of each post to do so.
Feel free to modify this post as you please to get a feel for it.
EDIT: Test (by DJ)
EDIT: squidgetx says that he can't find the button ??? (He just used quick-modify).... FOUND IT
EDIT 3: Hi ^-^... Wait, how do I do this?
EDIT 4[2]:Qwerty.55 always hits this button when he tries to quote people :P
Edit: Meishe says that's not nice to delete someones edit, who ever did ;)
Edit: * ZTrumpet stabs anyone editing this at the moment...
Edit: Does that mean Z stabbed himself?
Edit: Lol, silly Meishe...
Of course it does...
Edit: Michael is confused. (He also hopes he wasn't stabbed.)
Ha! Finally got it!
Edit: For those who haven't gotten it yet really should figure it out, this is quite fun :)
Edit: Works fine for me! (apcalc)
Edit: CoolioJazz bows at Sir's superior modding skilz
Edit: z80man sees nothing different
* BOOM *
I don't get it... (yunhua98)

Sorry, I would put a 'I like loooooooooooooooong... jackets alottt' in that post of yours, but the buttons don't work for me :(
-
What precisely are you talking about? I don't see anything out of place...
-
You can modify my post above as if you were a moderator using the new control panel on the left.
-
Are you talking about the buttons where your signature would be? Or am I not seeing it because I already have mod privileges?
-
this won't work for me; also, the non-working buttons only show up on your posts, sir.
-
For just now, it's only enabled on my posts. Ashbad must have a specific problem.
-
Assuming we're talking about the buttons where your profile pic used to be to the left, those don't work for me. It just acts like a picture.
Edit: I'm using Firefox, btw
-
is it due to the fact that I'm using IE 7 (methinks it's IE 7, maybe 6) on my other computer?
I would use firefox on my other, but it's slow today so I ran a script that will fix it by tomorrow. So it'll be transferring data at <1 byte a second so I'm using my other comp.
EDIT: michael, same for me, it acts liek a pic :/
-
The buttons don't work for me either.
I've tried it in Firefox 4 Beta and Google Chrome.
-
Works fine for me in Opera 3.0.
Also it's kinda nice. I guess it just needs browser compatibility issues fixing.
-
Works for me too, although I didn't try delete :P
-
I wonder if this will really promote good behavior....Maybe we should have a post limit for this so random users can't go and delete everything. But it is a pretty nice idea.
-
Previously I couldn't see the buttons, but after refreshing, I could also only see a picture.
-
The picture is an interactive image map.
-
Well I figured it out, works in Chrome just fine.
-
I tried it with IE7, and that didn't work either, and I don't have Chrome (and I don't feel like getting it).
-
I have chrome beta and it works for me
-
Worked great for me on IE8 and on my phone.
-
Maybe it's the web browser? Hang on, I'm going to try Opera then IE.
-
It also worked for me with Firefox.
-
Try getting rid of cookies and such.
-
Well I clicked on the picture and dragged it to another tab, and a .png file came up.

Is this supposed to happen?
-
Well, that's the name of the image (I'm not sure why - maybe because I put it in the avatar area?)
-
I think you should remove the private message button because all users can do that already.
-
I thought that the online status button doesn't allude to its function.
-
I personally always clicked the nickname and selected send this member a PM from their profile. Otherwise I manually typed the nickname from the Inbox.
-
I agree with Michael, we don't need 3 buttons on every post for PMs (there's another one next to arcade stats btw)
-
Alright, the game is up. Thanks to the staffers that helped to sell it. It's my profile image, I made it just for the lulz.
-
It's too bad I wasn't here in time to help :P

In other words, SirCmpwn just trolled you. :P
And now he made me lose.
Should this go into Randomness now, tho?
On an unrelated note I have 1337 PMs. O.O
-
Yes, it should. You can use the moderator panel to do so ;)
-
/me missed the fun as he was out shopping today. :P
-
Ooo ooo ooo! Can I move it? Will be my first thread move as a moderator ;) :P
-
Feel free like moving it I guess. Just make sure to not accidentally the whole thing, though. :P
-
Dang it DJ, you jinxed me :P I moved it to the wrong place, but finally got it fixed...just need a Admin to delete the wrong one now...>.> :P
-
So on another note, what do you guys think? Was this well done? I made the profile pic myself, and had to make the PM button manually by hand.
-
Could you post a screenie? I missed out on the fun. :P The idea seemed decent though. =)
-
Screenie of what? What you see now is exactly what you saw before, except for a seperate thread on the staff board, encouraging them to modify my post and pretend like it was working.
-
that's not very nice :P
I was wondering why your avatar was different though.
-

Aside from the non-transparent background it was well done. The lack of transparent backgrounds kinda gave it away on half of your posts because the post area is alternatively lighter. :P
-
Well, I changed it to be transparent after the fact :P Not that it helps
-
Ah ok good. :P
I wonder if ppl will try to click them, since they might not all see this topic. :P
-
Maybe ;)
-
@Sir: For some strange reason your fake buttons were not displaying in my browser yesterday. When I logged on today they were visible. I just assumed that you had removed them. That said, they look quite authentic. :)
-
That's because all but one of them were ripped from the site :P
