Title: How much will the admins have to pay for Omnimaga domain in 2095
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 16, 2013, 01:01:54 pm
Based on .org domain name prices over the last two years:

2011: $9.69/yr
2013: $11.42/yr
2015: $13.49/yr
2017: $15.92/yr
2025: $30.87/yr
2035: $70.62/yr
2045: $161.55/yr
2055: $369.60/yr
2065: $845.55/yr
2075: $1,934.41/yr
2085: $4,425.46/yr
2095: $10,124.37/yr

Code: [Select]
PRGM:OHCRAP
9.69->A
2011->B
While 1
A*1.18->A
B+2->B
Output(1,1,A
Output(2,1,B
End
Seriously, though, I paid $8.99 for omnimaga.org in 2010 and people were telling me it's expensive for a domain name. Now on 1and1 it's $14.99 O.O

Are domain name prices based on gas/appartment prices? O.O

I wonder how long Namecheap will be able to make 98ยข specials without losing too much. IIRC they have to pay a fee for being a registrar and there's a fee that increases once in a while imposed by the ICANN. (Actually as long as I remember Namecheap never really increases their prices, it's the small ICANN fee that increases.)

I hope we move to something better than domain names by then.

By then everyone will remember everyone's IPv6. But still, DNS is better than using /etc/hosts.

Actually, domain names are paid to prevent spam, but it went all the way commercial.

If org domains eventually get too expensive you could always become omnimaga.info. Those .info domain name cost a dollar a year. (I even bought one when I saw how ridiculous it is).

Well, .org domains are still cheaper than good hosting.

Edit: changed the title so Eeems stop getting highlighted on IRC for no reason everytime we post .__.

I can always manually highlight him instead :trollface:

But yeah I just got surprised when I checked 1and1 and saw that .org regular pricing was $14.99 now. I paid $7.99 the first year on 1and1 for Omnimaga.org, then 8.99 afterward. That was in 2008 and 2009. So juju checked ICANN prices and it seemed like there was a 1.18% increase or so over the last two years.

.com doesn't seem as bad, though.

Not at this moment, but we could push it to name domains authorities!

All the calculator universe in .calc TLD! :D

What would be funny is if calc.org still existed then .calc domains were created. That said, it would be a nice url shortener for ticalc.org (ti.calc), but since 2-letter domain names are expensive, I guess it would be impossible.

I think it costs something like $25000 to register a TLD.

Btw, off-topic: I hope it doesn't really cost $150000 as I think I saw on IRC to get a replacement kidney >.< (considering how much lower you get back from selling one :P)

On the bright side, by DJ's calculations, it'll cost just as much by the year 2100 to register the calc. TLD as omnimaga.org.

Okay, maybe not really bright side.

Or with an assorted selection of kidneys, it depends on the # of available donators. :P
