Most xkcd's are so true.

There's one about "Whenever I get a new skill, I come up with a scenario in which it saves the day." I do that too and I'd post it here if I could find it again.
I found it again, it's number 208

Hahaha. xkcd is one of my favorite webcomics. I love geek jokes.

Also, the comic's alt text is fun.
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with
Post by: Freyaday on April 22, 2011, 07:48:39 pm
Oh yeah. The Alt text is the best part.

The equations get complicated when I have people moving around me(passing period at my school). I care way too much about efficiency

Lol yeah, it frustrates me how slow people walk in the hallways :/
What seems to always happen is the two biggest/most overweight people in the school walk side by side as slow as humanly possible...then the entire hallway stops like the doors were closed

no offense meant to anyone, just in case

Well, a physics explanation:

Heavy things are harder to move.

Objects of large mass will gravitate towards each other strongly

what happens in my school is a few(3-10) students decide to stand in a group in the middle of the hall nearly stopping or stopping all movement through that area

what happens in my school is a few(3-10) students decide to stand in a group in the middle of the hall nearly stopping or stopping all movement through that area
This is why there are alternate routes in the school. Or getting out of the classroom first thing.
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with
Post by: ruler501 on April 22, 2011, 08:59:45 pm
I good at getting out of class first(watch set exactly to school time) just some routes are more efficient and circuitous routs would make me late so I have to wait the people out. usually the group lets you through after about 15-45 seconds.
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with
Post by: willrandship on April 22, 2011, 09:05:31 pm
My school's clock updates every day at midnight, but I think there's something wrong with the timers.

And, my school is rather like a line. Only one path (albeit sometimes a rather wide one, but usually narrow) with rooms on the sides.
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with
Post by: ruler501 on April 22, 2011, 09:07:49 pm
My schools clocks change every day and I have to figure out how much I'm off by and possibly adjust my watch
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with
Post by: Juju on April 23, 2011, 12:22:33 am
My high school used to advance by 2 seconds each day or something.

Also, some schools had to have the narrowest corridors as possible. Plus a bunch of girls blocking the way and you have hell.

Post by: Darl181 on April 23, 2011, 01:23:32 am
Our school has "breezeways" between the hallways, those help...

Also I try to keep my watch in tandem with the school clocks to the second...have to reset the seconds every week :P

xkcd is amazing. I agree with just about all of them.

There were times when xkcd drops a bit in quality, but soon comes that brilliant comic that makes everything right again :D

So I'm not the only one who keeps his watch synchronized to the second. Does anyone else like to impress their classmates by counting down the bell at the end of class and "magically" have the bell ring when you say zero?
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with

Forget impressing them, I'm out of the door before the hallways clog up.   ZOOM
I think I did it a few times in middle school though...it's fun ;D

IMHO, the secretary series is the absolute best. Starts here (http://xkcd.com/494) and goes on.

"I plead the third."
"You mean the fifth?"
"No, the third."
"You refuse to quarter troops in your house?"
[banging fist on table] "I have few principles, but I stick to them."

I love this one http://xkcd.com/505/ I wonder what speed the rock computer gets.

According to the comic we are the rock computer (this universe is). Remember time is all relative. We're inside a matrix simulated by a bunch of rocks that get manually moved back and forth.

768 is the number of bytes in saveSScreen, plotSScreen, and appBackUpScreen. Basically, it's the number of bytes needed to represent the screen :)

Heh. For me it's actually Axe that takes longer to compile than any of my computer scripts O.o

Back to the topic: Some new ones are still pretty good, like 890 (http://xkcd.com/890/).
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with

Wait--how'd you get Axe to compile slowly?
Title: Re: xkcd comics I agree with

Enough code (8 KB) and enough subroutines (21). Axe compiles Contra in seven seconds.

313 is too familiar, especially the alt text.
I like 315 and 316, too.
325 seems like something I would do, if I had an eBay account. (And an unlimited supply of bobcats)

And I swear somebody's gonna make 416 a reality.

Hmm. To fully test this, we would need a network map of the whole of Wikipedia.
