Post by: whitevalkery on March 06, 2010, 09:24:31 pm
hello... i am new here...

and here is my account from ticalc.org
http://www.ticalc.org/cgi-bin/acct-view.cgi?userid=77349

i am currently trying to learn assembly for the TI-84

this site seems very cool! the only TIcalc site that has a rich amount of projects and a forum!!!  :o

although it seems a bit disorganized lol :P

nah we are very organized, but you just have to get use to it :P
anyways, welcome to Omnimaga!
if you need a good assembly development enviroment, you could always try out my most recent build of ADE (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=75.0  http://code.google.com/p/asmdevset/downloads/detail?name=ADEv1.5b_win32.exe&can=2&q=#makechanges) or you could try wabbitcode if you want something that has more features.

Hi and welcome here. Glad you are interested into learning how to program.

Well if you feel it is disorganized, you can provide a better idea for a layout, then we can start a poll if we switch to the new one or keep the current one. I try my best to work on this site in my free time (and pay for hosting it). I don't want way too many forum sections to display directly on the board index, though.

well this is cool!

thx for your help with the assembly programs!

also i have another question... i just tried something that uses xLib on my TI-84 and for some reason no mattyer what i do to enable the xLib any applications that require it just simply say it isn't activated... or basic programs simply crash... (such as this program: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/387/38746.html ) (and this one: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/396/39695.html )

is this caused by the new OS?

p.s. why do i have -1 respect???? and what does respect do anyway? :P
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 06, 2010, 11:17:37 pm
Respect works based on the total of your post ratings. On Youtube you can rate comments. Over here too, except only once per post (you can change your vote later, though), and the total of both positive and negative is added together per person. People who give constructive criticism, have major project updates, helps a lot and the like often receive positive votes. negative votes can happen too but respect goes up quickly sometimes afterward anyway :P

For xLIB, it is the new OS fault. The only solution is to use Celtic III (altough it won't run certain xLIB programs perfectly) or downgrade to OS 2.43 then do a RAM clear

I'm new to Omnimaga, at least.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: whitevalkery on March 06, 2010, 11:40:05 pm
it seems to help... but the programs are all messed up...

this could be either caused by not using xlib and using celtic III instead, or the new OS again...

since now some of the programs run, but have their screens and controls messed up...

Oooh wait!

I forgot something!

That Minesweeper game you linked to, it uses an older version of xLIB IIRC. Maybe it has more issues even with older OSes, idk (or newer calcs). But idk normally stuff should work fine.

Are you currently trying the Celtic III way? Celtic III is awesome and changed TI-BASIC as did xLIB, but the backward compatibility is still not perfect, so some programs will have display glitches :(. SOmething we will have to deal with until E:SoR and CaDan are finished I think.

Otherwise I guess the only solution to play xLIB games that glitch too much in newer OSes is to downgrade to 2.43.

i see...
guess i will just ahve to boycott all the xlib games and programs then... since i kinda fell in love with the new os as well...
the function display for sigmas and integrals are just perfect... and the best would be the recall ability... sigh... lol

p.s. WTF!? now i have -2 respect!!!! :(

Don't boycott them persay, just only use the ones that work with Celtic III or, just live with the graphical hiccups that could happen due to some lack of compatability.

Welcome!  I see I have a fan ;)

Don't take the -1s personally.  Without the ability to express emotion with your words, a lot of times they get misinterpreted (like sarcasm) and a lot of people are really sensitive to that.  I know that really annoyed me in the beginning, but now I double check everything I write to make sure it comes out the way I intended.  A lot of times I quickly edit my posts to fix things right after I post them.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 07, 2010, 01:41:05 am
I believe I -1'ed a Quigibo post or two in his early days on the forums I believe. I think I did a few times with NecroF-_-ckk too and Drak. :P Text is a useful, but not the best way to communicate emotions. On top of that, different mentalities cause people to have different ways to say stuff. Language barrier won,t help either. I accidentally offended people too, in the past.

An example is that in France, posting ALL CAPS is considered as yelling. Because I frequent french forums a lot, I kinda have issues making the difference between emphasis and yelling on english forums, as on them, people use caps for both. In france they use bold or colors to put emphasis. Another example is how posting a lonely "..." or a "*facepalm*" on a forum or IRC is seen as embarrasing towards the person it's directed at, while for some people, "..." simply means no comment and "*facepalm*" is simply showing a loss of patience. Even *shrugs* is considered as rude by some people. I think the worst has to be sarcasm, though. That's one thing that is hard to detect x.x

One cool thing with the rating system is how you can immediately change your vote afterward, tho, so if a post is misinterpreted you can revert or negate your change.

Of course, if you went spamming (outside randomness), trolling, impoliteness or dissing people hard work or posted very narrow minded comments on something, it's certain that could make the overall rating go down a lot, especially the two first :P.

I think Allynfolksjr and Noah dropped by 10 within a few minutes once. The first for trolling and totally pointless posts, and the second for spamming (altough he apologised later)

I also dropped I believe before.

i see...
thats very interesting actually...

as you can see... i try to express my emotions with smilies at the end of sentences so i dont confuse people...
my first language is English so there should be any problem there... although as you can see i use "..." alot....

though its different from what you just said... i use them as pauses when i am thinking and typing... :)

and yes.. i do also put "..." separate (not connected to the previous word) meaning i am frustrated or at a lost of patience lol

p.s. thank goodness i dont put "..." after everything for an actual english essay lol... i wonder what my teacher would think :P
i simply replace them with ","

but ya... there is a little story about myself for ya! :D

p.s. you play supreme commander right? have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/user/asdrubaelvect29900
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 07, 2010, 02:49:05 am
Yeah for "..." I mostly meant like for example:

<user1> Hi, how do I display a sprite with Ion routines?
<anotheruser> ...

user1 might go as far as interpreting it as "<anotheruser> idiot" x.x

And Nah I don't play Supreme COmmander (not yet actually, not really a big gamer x.x), but I like some Starcraft game from time to time. I know Hot_Dog loves Supreme Commander a lot, though.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: whitevalkery on March 07, 2010, 02:56:29 am
lol... supreme commander is one of the best RTS out there... but it isn't that popular for some reason...

as for starcraft... you can already tell that how i like it from my avatar...

i am actually the leader of clan starcraft at the site www.d3jsp.org (online gaming community with over 10000 users...)

but ya... supreme commander 2 just came out... to my opinion... its not nearly as good as the first one... sure they upgraded the graphics abit... but it sucks now... everything looks like toys lol....

if you are going to start i suggest you just stick with SC1... but with some mods of course... such as the youtube link i sent you... he is basically the master Supreme commander modifier...
(he didn't like supreme commander 2 either lol)
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 07, 2010, 03:16:17 am
I think the reason why Supreme 1 was not too popular is because of the minimum computer specs being too high at the time of its release. Supreme 2 was optimized in a way that even my old computer could probably run it (which couldn't run the first). The Xbox 360 version was horrible because with many units on screen you got 4 frames per second. Supreme 2 is supposed to fix the intense ressources requirements while still improving the graphics, but I cannot really judge the rest. Maybe it will turn out good in the end, but I would still like to play the first on the PC when I feel like gaming more.

I am not that great at Starcraft personally, so I would probably not join a clan, altough there's another reason for that, being that in general, the majority of SC hardcore gamers I met are far from being the nicest person in the world. It can be seen on Youtube, where even on the best gameplays ever, almost every comment is negative. Had I ran a SC forum the same way I run Omnimaga, about 90% of the users joining would probably get banned. x.x

Usually I advocate respect and if people cannot respect me and decide to take a game way too seriously, I won't respect them either. Example: if I am in a 3v3 game and near the end one of our own teamates start saying we both suck, I BS him (even if I may lose the game). In some occasions, the teamate didn't even play as good as us and had a very small limited base. There's also people who accuse me of hacking when they lose against me. :P

Fortunately iCCup is moderated so you can report these people if you got a replay now. Otherwise eventually we'll have our own Omnimaga server being public. We just need to fix a few things before giving away the registry modifiers (I think Netham45 wants to fix the thing so it works with Warcraft 3 too instead of just Starcraft and Warcraft 2)

Thanks for the Supreme Commander link by the way

Unless you do something really stupid, your respect normally will go up.  I'd say it will drop down slightly if you disrespect someone.  Generally, if you post positive comments, you'll end up with positive respect. :)
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 07, 2010, 01:18:29 pm
Keep in mind excessive spam could drag respect down too, as I said :P

I just checked Drak and even if he did not disrespect people on the forums more than once (if he even did at all), he still had -3 x.x

True x.x

I personally find it pointless to try to mock others or make them feel discouraged about contributing using their free time. Of course, unfortunately, there are people who find entertainment in this x.x. The best thing to do is keep these people away and focus on the good so it's easier to continue making awesome calculator programs.

Welcome here ExceL/Maize btw ^^

but ya... these are nice conversations regarding supreme commander and stacraft...

btw.. feel free to add me in starcraft... and i dont hack or anything just so you know...

i think i my skills in starcraft would be considered as a little above average...

my account is "schoolhacker" (same as my username here)

i wonder why people hate me sooo much???  :-[

since i have only posted in 3 topics in total so far...

i am starting to have a negative impression of this site thank you...  >:(
Title: Re: hello! i am new!

As Quigibo said you don,t have to take respect levels personally. Personally, though, knowing you are the same schoolhacker_hacker guy from ticalc.org, maybe some people got a bad impression of you due to some of your negative posts on their site (even though the staff work hard on it... altough I agree with you on the reviews part... where's my recent review of Netham45's screen inverter?), and your first intro post on Omnimaga mentionned the forum is a bit disorganized without any suggestions for improvements, so maybe people took this as unconstructive. Negative respect doesn't mean people hate you. Skuller972 had negative respect during his entire stay on the forums and we still enjoyed chatting with him regulary on IRC.

Keep in mind certain people also rate posts based on their personal opinion on the subject, and with english not being everyone's native language, misinterpreting can occur. Note that also people accidentally hit -1 instead of +1 because they are so close to each others, then won't notice.

Don't get angry at us for having negative respect. That would be the worst way to make it rise. The best way to make it rise is to contribute to the site. Every helpful posts and major project updates tend to help. Notice how high Quigibo respect went in so short amount of time.

If new members starts getting so worked up about the forum comment rating system I'll just disable it altogether. I don't understand why you take it so seriously. No one else here does, atm. At least it's better than the old reputation system we had that was not tied to posts or Youtube comment system where you can rate someone's comment every 6 hours.

If everyone started leaving Youtube the second one of their comment is rated -1 or their video is rated 1 star, Youtube would be a ghost town, now. Same on Omnimaga. Galandros received negative votes, Quigibo received some, Skuller972 a lot, Noah a dozen, Trev66 a few too. I myself received a bunch in the past too (my respect was 110-ish for a while then suddently dropped to 90 one day), yet I am still here and these people still visit the site too. We simply tell ourselves everyone has their views on a subject then move on.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: whitevalkery on March 07, 2010, 07:31:54 pm
i donno... but...
its just that i think the respect system is seriously flawed...

if you look at my site (www.d3jsp.org) we use a reputation system in which someone can only rate someone ones in a long time so they can not abuse this...

and currently i seriously think that people are abusing this... i mean do they seriously think that my post is that offensive to them that they have to take action instantly and lower my respect?

i think they are just stupid and want to simply piss off people and discourage them from even using this site...
since i am discouraged... abit that is... since i dont really care about what other people think about me on the internet that much...

 ;)

edit:

oh.. and btw... i never use the youtube's up down system...
nor have i rated any post on this site up or down at all yet...
Title: Re: hello! i am new!

They might have found something unconstructive. Example, saying the site is "disorganized" is unconstructive, because it provides absolutely no suggestions to improve the site organization.

As I said, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I may downrate one of your post and immediately afterward, someone will uprate it again.

Now I think you are just trolling or trying to impose your views on us, and for that last post, specifically the last line meant to insult people who downrate your posts, I will give this post 1 thumbs down and a warning. We do not condone personal attacks on Omnimaga. Your posts in general were fine on the forums so far, until your last two posts. Listen to one thing: sensitive people have a right to exist as much as insensitive people like you do. If you don't take offense to anything online or in real life, it doesn't mean it's as easy for everyone. If you think it is then you are narrow-minded.

And if you think our system is abused and discourage everyone from using Omnimaga, then why on the earth does Omnimaga have by far the highest TI community activity online?

I assume this site is worthless and I should just shut it down completly, right?

(btw in 2008 Omni shutted down from March 3rd to Aug 25th)

Graphic spans from Jan 1st 2005 to Feb 23rd 2010. Omnimaga active forums originally opened on May 12th 2005

Also you contributed nothing to the TI community, so you don't really have much say on how people should run their site and what they should do. I have been in the TI community for almost a decade and I am here to tell you hostile remarks made people leave. You cannot deny this, because you haven't been here long enough to judge. When hostility increased on United-TI forums, five members fleed toward Omnimaga then barely posted on UTI anymore for a long while. If you are not happy with how we run the site, maybe you should go to http://www.cemetech.net , http://www.revsoft.org , http://www.unitedti.org (largest english TI forum of all) or hang on IRC at #ti or #tcpa ?

We are not forced to run the site the way we wish. Do I go on your site telling your admins how to run it? No. I can give suggestions, but I cannot say they suck if they won't awnser my requests.

WOHHHHH

slow down buddy!
i didn't mean to say anything that would upset you there!  ???

its just my opinion! what? people aren't allowed to give you their opinion here??? come on!!! i thought you want constructive criticism!!
and btw? when i said tis a bit disorganized it just means that i was not used to this design...

sigh... you need to calm down... (a little misunderstanding like that one doesn't need this kind of craziness...)

you have no idea how happy i was when i finally found a TI calc site that has THIS!!!! many people using it!
i thought geeks who programed calculators were rare until i discovered this site... (its like a haven or something for us geeks)

damn... why are you soooo angry and smoking like this?

btw,.. i dont understand how this: "i think they are just stupid and want to simply piss off people and discourage them from even using this site..."
could do THAT much damage...

although i did find something you said SERIOUSLY offensive to me... "Now I think you are just trolling or trying to impose your views on us," i am simply saying damn it!!!
and this: "Also you contributed nothing to the TI community, so you don't really have much say on how people should run their site and what they should do."

...you have no idea how that last sentence you said can hurt... have you got any idea what i am working on right now so i can truly join this world!?

GOD! why are you sooooooooooo quick to a conclusion that i am going to be an idiot and troll around and crap everywhere!?  >:(

i thought we were starting a good forum relationship here...  >:(

i guess i was wrong...  :'(

Personally, I think we cannot please everyone. It's inevitable that there will be something on the site that someone won't like. In your case, the warning system. In Art Of Camelot case, it was the new forum skin and in AP case, the old one. The new forum reorganization from last month many people wanted may not please everyone as well. Unfortunately, it is like that, so it is better to just enjoy the good and try to ignore the rest.

Also we have different opinions. unfortunately we may never agree on some stuff. The best thing to do is try to be careful like every other member do. Sorry if I came out as rude with my two comments, I was just pissed when you called us names for rating down your posts. Name calling is flaming and against our rules. if that's not what you meant to say I am sorry. Just try to be careful. If you try to be careful with that kind of remark everyone is gonna enjoy the site and continue making games.

Anyway let's move on from this. I do not hate you and I doubt anyone here does. And yes everyone does mistakes. :)

Unfortunately, though, I do not follow the world cup much :(, I am more a hockey fan in general, altough the NHL sucks today (they put teams where nobody cares about hockey and leave the hockey country with 6) x.x

I'm with trevmeister on this; let's settle down.  I happen to love the respect system here; it rewards those who say something constructive, and when someone gets irritated at a post they just click -1.  You're respect is back to 0 now, and it's okay.  I think I'd be mad too if my respect was negative, but if you do get -1'd, then you can learn from this mistake and move on.  I have made some big mistakes on Omnimaga but I have learned from them and once I figured out what I did, I realized that I was wrong and apologized.  Now I keep all those things in mind and try not to make those mistakes again.  The point of this is "Learn from your mistakes.  You will always be better if you use the wisdom gained through mistakes."  I think a couple of your posts were misinterpreted, but the last attack was a little bad (by both you and DJ).  I think you have a pretty good future on Omnimaga, as long as you stay positive or word criticism differently. :)

Good luck on Omnimaga! ;D

By the way, here are some complementary Omnimaga peanuts.

Lol.  And the cake is a lie.  And Rick Astley is overrated, especially since the original rickroll video was taken down.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!

I doubt anyone really knows which video was the original, especially since I'm pretty sure Rick Rolling started over at 4chan.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 09, 2010, 06:11:57 pm
It's actually back. It went down for a few days because the user got banned, but then he asked an unban and the video got put back

That's unless the one linked to in Ticalc.org MirageOs 1.3 fake news was the actual original :P

That said, rickrolling using these two vids is no longer effective anyway since it's in the title. The best way to rickroll is to do it in more subtle ways :P (*cough*admins inserting HTML code in forum posts containing audio or flash videos*cough*)

Plus I am certain, as meishe said, that it started at 4chan before Youtube. It originalled from duckrolling actually (instead of a rickroll, people showed a static image of a duck on wheels)

we still get to eat ice cream, chips, chocolate, blah blah blah... OH! AND INSTANT NOODLES!!! no peanuts in there lol!

i am partly allergic to peanuts... as in if i eat them they would cause me to vomit immediately... and then my lips and tung will start itching... ewwww...

other then that... its not that bad... besides... all i am missing are probably stuff like sinkers bars and some other stuff...
:P

Well, the thing is that in factories, often they produce multiple kind of food, and if the factory contains nuts, the dust and particles from them travel in the air and land on other food. I heard that just that is enough to kill someone who is allergic to peanuts who will eat that other kind of food. This is why more factories these days completly eliminated nuts from their buildings (or put the production in another).

On a calc-related note, I was curious about what kind of games or programs you were planning to create once you learned assembly or other languages?

well for one... i want to write an actually good scorched earth type game... since i couldn't find any good ones... and the ones that are great are found to be unbalanced by me and my friends at school lol...

oh... and something else is missing in the TI-84 archive... a pacman game that is true to its classic original... since personally i don't really like pacman that has a different stage or level changing stage... i prefer the actual classic layout and balance... so i am thinking of making a clone of the original classic... like... identical :D

hmm... and those are whats on the top of my head at the moment :)

Oooh yeah I remember that game, I believe there's a calc version, but it has been so long ago that I forgot if it's 83 or 89. The PacMans on ticalc are good but as you said, not similar to the original.

It would be cool to see some new versions ^^

Btw never start with massive projects. BASIC programmers sometimes learn the jump straight to a massive RPG. In ASM I saw this happen, too. It's a better idea to start gradually. Even just doing experimental routines that serves no purpose to anyone might help. See for example my Axe Parser pixelation routine: while it could be used for a RPG fading effect, the monochrome display ruins it and it can't look as good as old SNES RPGs. But it helped me a lot to learn.

thx! i will keep that in mind...

though i am probably not going to release anything at least until summer... :(
since i am currently in grade 12 and i am still stuck in the suspense of which university i will e able to enroll in lol

oh... and i am probably going to buy a TI-89 titanium and a TI-Nspire since all the good stuff are coming out for them!

oh ya!! and i am definitely going to try and make all my games greyscale too :D since i simply can't get enough of them!

p.s. i found this and you can't believe how envious i was when it first got uploaded to ticalc.org a few days ago lol...
since i have wanted to make a pacman game months ago

I assume grade 12 is the final grade of hi school, right?

In Quebec, grades are divided by elementary and hi school. There's Kindergarten, then 6 years of elementary school (grade 1-6), then you return all the way back to grade #1 as you start hi school, until grade 5. It won't continue as 7, 8, etc. But the issue is that the fact some states and provinces has more and fewer years of school makes it harder to understand each systems x.x

Once you finished hi school over here you can't even get into uni yet, you have to do 2 or 3 years of pre-universitary college beforehand. Otherwise, there's the option to just do college (3-4 years) or professional school (for stuff involving mostly manual work, such as mechanic, computer repairing, hair cutter, soldering, etc). On top of that, sometimes the later won't even require grade 5 of hi school. I think in USA they finish hi school at 18 and over here we finish at 16.

I wish you good luck on this x.x

EDIT: Yep saw this one, it looks really amazing and so close to the original. I may load this on my Ti-89 Titanium when I have some time.

Btw I did a pac Man game back in 2002 for the TI-83 Plus. However, back then, I was still terrible at TI-BASIC programming and got about 2 frames per second of it on a 15 MHz calc. Loading the maps was 15 seconds long, too x.x. I never released it because I never finished it (it missed detection for when you completed a level) and it was on a floppy disk which I lost, then later my Pentium II, which crashed...à

Ah... the good ol' days...

see... :(
but ya... when n i first started playing with calculator stuff is when i found a TI-85 on ebay for really cheap prices and bought it lol... (school also wanted us to get one)

i thought the ram was large and basic programming must have spawned games for a calculator with such a large screen lol... and began to google...

first i found ticalc.org lol.. i was amazed at someone hacking the calculator to be able to run assembly code! :D and so i bought the black serial cord and began loading stuff on to that old sucker! (oh... and i was doing that on an old pentium 1 i got from the my highschool for free since they were throwing away old comps lol, plus i knew the comp teacher pretty well.. and that pentium 1 was the only computer that had a serial port...)

i used shells like Usgard and Zshell but then one day i i was bored and decided to look around the site with programs for other calculators... and then i stumbled on the GIGANTIC TI-83/84 archive lol!

then i simply bought a TI-84 by grade 11 and here i am :D (also i had another reason to get a TI-84, the TI-85 was too old or considered illegal for tests :P)

edit:
ya.. grade 12 is the hardest... i think the most important part are the provincial exams at the end of June :(
and it is the last grade... though here we have a choice to go straight to university or collage first...

but alot of people here thinks your either dumb or a looser to go to collage first or not go to university at all... donno why...

but i am heading in to the field of computer science anyways lol

nice

About planes, do you build them yourself? On United-TI forum, one of the former admin and founder of the site was a big fan of a guy who did. Some cool stuff. You just had to be careful when making them land so they won't break, since some were rather expensive

I should be fine for my signature and avatar for now, though. As nostalgic person, I decided to stick with the Omnimaga logo from September 1st 2001 as avatar and for my sig I wanted to include both my sites and Xbox live thing (altough eventually maybe I will switch)

yeah... but at the moment i am only able to fly electrics where i live... since the field where i fly at prohibits nitro planes... :(

also they are to expensive anyways...
i fly and make planes that are usually made of foam and at least 3-4 channels... though i haven't built anything new since last month though... since its quite hard to find parts here in stupid Canada... >:[ i have to order everything online...

but ya... i get some of my designs from this guy:

i know... here in Vancouver there isn't a single good RC shop that sells everything i need...
also... one of my friends bought a random casio graphing calc lol... and he was basically screwed for grade 12 math... but then he didn't care about math that much so he just flunked it... got like 60 percent the second time through or something...

but ya... the casio calcs are kinda really really bad... i dont think they have support in assembly at all... (unless you hack it perhaps) plus it doesn't have any rom... just ram... like an old TI-85...

plus the basic language is kinda weird... as in i dont even think it supports the graph screen... (AHH WHEN I USED IT IT FELT LIKE TRAPPED IN SOME TINY BOX LOL!)
i feel kinda claustrophobic just thinking about that casio (green) calc lol (it does have some kind of link port thats the same as the TI calc though... but my friend didn't get a cord either...)

For Casio stuff:

The algebra FX series and the FX-9860 are the only ones supporting asm (as add-ons. No asm commands like the 83+ to run libs). The ClassPad 300 supports C++ applications IIRC. BASIC-wise, the language is more limited in overall, and 10x slower on old models. It's even worse on the AFX series (20x slower). However, on the 9860G it's not too bad. Output equivalents are 10x faster than on TI calcs. This calc has 64 KB of RAM and 1.5 MB of archive. There are graph screen commands too.

Personally I don't mind the CFX series too much since they have color screen display, but they are slow and with 32 KB of RAM you don,t go far. Also I find that the commands locations are really weird. Everything is hard to find on these calcs and the manual won't go in depth. Casios are not too bad for the price, but most people use TI so if you code for Casio you will not get a large audience (altough the community is quite nice in general, having been part of it for 4 years, despite doing nothing)

If the CFX was cracked like the Nspire did, color asm games would have been awesome. Unfortunately, though, this model is not used much anymore, since it has been discontinued in 2003. :(

EDIT: how the color works on it and why, despite the fact it only had 4 at once (including the background, which could range from yellow-gray-ish to orange-ish), it would have been awesome if it was cracked and remained popular: http://xlib.mtv-music-generator.com/casiocfx9850g.wmv . We could have got color palettes in a style similar to the NES

@Meishe91 Lol I know, but Schoolhacker doesn't live in USA. Canada province also got different system as USA, even if it's alerady different from Quebec system. This is why I asked him, then explained him our system (which I only told you in private)

@Schoolhacker The problem is that schools are sold out to Texas Instruments. Because TI promoted their stuff so much, most schools recommend TI calcs to students. Some math classes even have TI-83+ ads over here and posters. This pretty much kill any chance for Casio, even if their calcs are easy to use and cheaper. Casio market is pretty much limited to the poorest of developed countries. Also IIRC, people complained about color screen calcs taking more battery power, so in 2003 the CFX serie was replaced with the FX-9750G, which is the exact same thing, except with no color and 28 KB of RAM instead of 32.

Yeah. As I said, I think it was due to battery power, though, cuz when I was part of EPS, staff said things like that (they owned such calcs). This is probably why they downgraded. I don't get the RAM decrease, though. That said, for a $25 calc, I find it quite worth it, though. Some scientific TI calcs costs the same price

I think because TI has almost the entire market to themselves, they permit themselves to sell their stuff for higher they are worth for. On top of that they even sometimes change the hardware after a few years to add crappier LCDs (remember the wavy game screens in MirageOs talks?) and less hidden RAM in 84 calcs (causing TI-Boy SE, RealSound, Omnicalc and Msd8x to fail). I mean, how much money did they save on 80 KB of RAM when today, you can get 1 GB RAM sticks for under $100?

Don't ask me x.x

I guess they want to make sure the calcs are just used for maths and not for games, but seriously I don't know x.x

Oh well, as long as they will sell calcs, people will still want games, then other people will try finding more online, get interested in making some, and people will continue releasing exploits for the Nspire. Look, for example, the new Nspire calc won't be downgradeable to OS 1.1 (required to run Ndless 1.0). As soon as it was noticed, a preview screenshot showing Ndless running on OS 2.0 came out.

The TI community died for a bit in 2008 but there was a lot of problems in it, causing drama (some that was started lead to Omnimaga demise for half a year). The lack of new cool programs did not help either. Took until 2009 before things picks up again, but now if you look today, forums are slowly picking up again, especially Omnimaga (which got around 30 posts a day a year ago). Now things are going smooth again, with people willing to fight against TI with Ndless and the like. In other words, TI will not win. :P

basically almost everything is possible in the world of programming and hacking lol..

i remember the samething happened with the xbox 360 when it came out or something...
as in on the second day the xbox was released and after microsoft just said that their new xbox is virtually uncrackable, some one cracked it and released the crack for free gems the next day lol

The best thing we must try to do (the same thing than with forum softwares and website CMSes) is to try to not reveal how the exploits works to anyone. Basically, if I was ExtendeD or BrandonW and someone joined #ti or United-TI, asking more info about Ndless, it would be a better idea for them to try to not leak too much. We never know which new forum/IRC member might be a Texas Instrument spy.

On Invisionfree, whenever a member reports a bug that might compromise their site security in public, they take note of it but they immediately delete the entire post content and warn the member to not post such thing in public. Otherwise, then more people might know or the hackers might try even harder and faster to find another security hole.

we could always have something like a donor's forum or an area in which truly trusted hackers and programmers who are well respected are allowed in lol..
and then all the secretes can be discussed there... unless they hack the website database...

we can always call that important underground part of the forum something stupid like "deleted posts" or "donors forum" :P so they dont know whats in it!  ;D

edit: i mean thats what we do on d3jsp for making lol, star craft, lol and lol,di ab lo II,lol 2 h@cks :P (ones again i dont want to accidently leak anything and let them know this lol)

Except now that they read your post, they will know what's in it.

And I think that even a subforum for only trusted members who have been around for years won't work. Who knows how long hidden TI operatives could have been around? If Texas Instruments really was serious enough about doing something like that, then it's possible they've had people undercover for years gaining the trust of the community. You can't know for sure if you can trust anyone, regardless of who they say they are.

Title: Re: hello! i am new!

True, we have to be careful

Generally, Ndless stuff is only discussed between the authors. When they ask a question somewhere to get ASM help, they try to not reveal for what they need help for.

Of course, tho, there are certain people on these forums who knew themselves for a long while and it can be easier to trust each others then. But in the hacking world, we still need to be careful.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!

yes... but in the hacking world of starcraft: drophacks, map hacks, money hacks, etc... there will almost always be a way to do them...

except money hack... it would seem that blizzard have patched anyway to have money hack... :(

but as for drop hack and maphack, they will never be able to get rid of it... since all the computers have to have the data of the entire map to be able to operate... otherwise they will be even more trouble... if the map data is not shared then hacks will be able to make units appear in areas where your opponent is not active in ! :D

but ya... it would seem that it is easier to make hacks for games then hack TI calcs for sure lol...

I kind of dislike when people hack at SC x.x

Of course some people do it to annoy others (trolling) so it can't be avoided, but what I hate even more is when people use hacks to win easier. It's so unfair for people who play the legit way like me. What I hate the most are the disconnects hacks as well as the lag hacks. For the other hacks, there is one good thing, though, that I noticed: usually when I run into a hacker, I still usually win, because the person is generally extremly bad at the game, to the point where he still can't manage to win with hacks on. Some Hacks are cool if you are playing with a group of friend who installed the exact same hacks, though, because it can be a new style of gameplay.
Title: Re: hello! i am new!

yeah... now days more then 80% of the people online are out fitted with maphack... so its better to have a version yourself so the game is fair...

as for drophacks and stuff... we the developers always make a counter for ourselves :D
for example, ones we were been evil and released a maphack (normal edition) for stupid people to use, and then we designed a counter hack that will notify the user if the opponent is using the maphack we made, then it will allow us to take control of his unit rally points, see what he is clicking, drop him, lag him, anything lol  ;D (oh... and dont forget self destruct his units! ;D) oh... and self destructing your own units is possibly the easiest hack for yourself... why would you want to kill your own units you say? it becomes quite helpful when your playing UMS games such as Nexus Destroyer, or random micro arena where your next units dont spawn unless your current ones all die off... for example, your opponent may try to be cheap and kill everything you have and leave your medic alive or something so then your nexus is a sitting duck lol, this is when you kill off your own units... but this antihack hack allows you to destroy his units remotely with out dropping yourself... (normally if you try to destroy someone else's units that way will result in miss synchronization and thus you will be dropped)

in a way its kinda like a virus lol :P but it only does things to starcraft...

personally i dont hack at all.. unless i notice something fishy about the other team i wouldn't activate anything...
but ya... i prefer a clean game... and most of the time when i loose i ask for a rematch lol... some of the times i find people who are good and just keep rematching each other we become rivals :)

true about the hacks. it doesn't seem fair for people who actually learn the strategy of starcraft are up against people who just hack and win through sheer resources or something. It may seem like a good feeling when you win with these hacks (but there might be an empty feeling), but the real satisfaction i think comes when you work out your brain to develop a clever strategy that achieves victory.

Note: this doesn't apply to SC only.

Wow necropost indeed. X.x

About hacking I agree that it's more fun to show you can win without cheating. Some hacks, if the other players agree to install them, can be fun, though, as they change the gameplay a bit.

That reminds me, I wonder if Battle.Net can ban for the hacks that just changes the game graphics...
