Title: Hello
Post by: Kottizen on May 18, 2011, 03:47:26 pm
I have no idea whether this category is the right one or not to post this topic in. If this is misplaced I blame it on myself.  ::)

So I found this site through trodgor.57o9.org, an IRC server which is pretty much dead right now. Calculators have always interested me, or at least that's been one of my biggest interests since I saw this site five minutes ago.

I've been programming some, I'm decent in PHP and fluent in Swedish. My real name is Martin and my age is for obvious reasons constantly changing.

This should be in Introduce Yourself.
Mods, please move.
Kottizen, welcome here! What calculator(s) do you own?
I hope you enjoy your stay here!

Hi!  Welcome to Omnimaga!

I moved this topic to the 'Introduce Yourself' thread.
Which calculator do you own?

Edit: ninja'd...

Okay, new question: What projects are you working on right now?  (Calculator or non-calculator)

There's another section for introduction topics.

I've never heard of that network... You're pretty much the only one that I know of who discovered this site via IRC.
fluent in Swedish.
Jag ocksÄ. :P

I really did not see that section, thanks for the heads up.

Fast replies here.

The calculator which I'm a proud owner of is a Casio fx-82ES, I guess it's a very common one since I bought it just to be able to survive math class in school. Is there anyone who could recommend me a nice little game for that type?

Casio calculators (except for the newly released Prizm) aren't very popular here, so I'm not sure if there's anyone who knows...

I see. Which brand(s) do you prefer?

Is it programmable?

EDIT:  Graphing calcs, preferably TI, since it has a large userbase.

The TI-83+/TI-84+ is very common around here, and there are lots of programs for it. Some people also use the Nspire, usually because their school forces them to, but it sucks.

I have no idea. How would I find that out? Until now I've only used my calculator for calculating calculations, but I'm looking forward to expand my knowledge in this subject.

I'll buy myself a TI or two then, thank you!

Is it a seven segment display, or can it graph things?
And HI!
Here are your !peanuts

I know for sure it's not able to graph things, no. And I assume that's vital here?

Thank you for the peanuts btw, I'll Handle With Care.

I'd recommend a TI-84+ Silver Edition, or the TI-84+ in case you don't need the extra 1 MB of memory on the SE or if you can't find the SE for purchase. The plain 84+ is much more common.

Yep, it's vital. I don't think it'll be able to run anything that's more advanced than a quadratic solver...

Well, It's not vital per se, and it doesn't preclude programmability, and not all graphing calculators are programmable, and English teachers everywhere are crying at this mockery of a sentence, but that limits what you can do with it, and you'll probably need a proper graphing calculator later, at which point I recommend a 84+SE if you're going with the TI83 series of calcs, and I can't say anything else because I don't know about other calc lines.

Fantastic! I'll try to find a TI-84+SE then. This seems like a very interesting, and to me new, world.

Oh! And if you can, find an old one; they have lots of extra ram that can be used to run cool stufs.

I'm sure you'll like it :D You can also code some PHP Utilities for us, since we lack some online utilities for calculator development.

Welcome to Omnimaga :D

If you cant find a SE, you can ofc buy a 84+ too. I have one and I have never had probs with it in terms of mem. Also Frey, I think you mean archive since the SE has the same amount of RAM as the 84+ BE.

No, I mean the old 128k RAM chips that used to be used in the 84+SE and aren't anymore for reasons we cannot fathom.

Yup.
Yeah, see if you can find one with the letter A-G on the back, right after two sets of numbers.  For instance, mine is a "P-0509M" and you want that M to be G or before (or even without a letter there) to have all the RAM you can get. :)

Welcome to the forums!  I hope you enjoy your time here. ;D

Now if TI decides to remove RAM from the CX too, I gots the firsts.  >:D  :P

Hey Kottizen, nice to see you here :) (From the revival of one of my servers' IRCd lol)

The TI-83+ series of calcs are very fun to program, you will love it. :)

I have a few Swedish friends, though they're only of full Swedish heritage, they're technically Americans.
