Hello everyone!

I'm pretty new to calculators, but I figured if I'm going to take calculus/physics seriously I should get one.  Man, I had no idea these things were so cool!

This seems like a nice place and I'm probably going to spend waaay too much time reading about all the dev going on around here.

I hope that you enjoy your time here.  You might also learn some programming to make your own games instead of just playing games.

I gather from your post that you already have a calculator, but which model is it ? A TI-Z80, a TI-68k, a Nspire, a Casio Prizm, something else ? :)

Heya and welcome here. Nice to see another Canadian aboard. :) And yeah I heard it's pretty cold there in January. Over here a cold wave is around -20°C to -35°C with windchill during daytime, but I heard in the prairies it's even worse. Some winters in Quebec have consistent -5°C weather and snow usually starts in late November until April.

You probably didn't see everything yet. The calcs can do Snake games, along with Mario clones, but there are even 3D engines for all models and Game Boy emulators :). Anyway I hope you enjoy your stay :)

Oh dear, too many peanuts to quote posts!

For calculators I have a really handy and fast SHARP ELw535 scientific calculator which I use all the time.  It is by far the best calculator I have used.  My new baby to test the waters is a Casio fx9750GII which I bought because it was extremely cheap.

I will likely upgrade again to something else, I like the Nspire line and probably will get that, but I really prefer the openness that Casio seems to have!  And HPs seem like monsters.

And yes, it was -30C and below here all week, and then the wind and blowing snow.  We try not to go outside folks...

You got a fx9750GII? Those are nice because you can convert it to a fx9860GII, which are way better.

And yeah last week it was insanely freezing, and now it's like 5°C... Weather sure is weird in Canada.

The Nspire line has the highest raw power for a graphing calculator on the market (even if it's a wimp in absolute terms, all other models are worse), but it's shackled by the closed-minded nature of the platform.

The EL-W535 is indeed a great scientific :)
Also lols about the bs key :P

A note about the 9750->9860 conversion: there's some hardware differences so certain games, ie the Mario one and Tron, have some problems iirc. Others like Wolfenstein work tho. It's a nice calc compared to the 84, it just doesn't have quite the community size of the TI line so there isn't as much stuff for them :/

Anyway..

Yep, converted it. Had to learn a few languages first though. ;)

It's also the SH-4a model so the number of compatible apps is extremely low, but the usability and speed is much better than any TI I have used.  This mindset is probably why I will never part with my Zune either!
