Hello World!
My name is 3rik. I’m a student from the United States. This is the first forum I have ever been a part of so it may take a while to get accustomed to using it.
I became a member of Omnimaga because I want to learn more about calculator programming, I think that I would enjoy programming as hobby, and everyone here seems really friendly.
As for calculators, I own a TI-84+ Silver Edition and a TI-Nspire CX. I know BASIC on the TI-84 somewhat well. I am also in the middle of learning Lua for the Nspire and I am going to eventually learn assembly for the TI-84.
I am excited to learn more about calculators and hopefully get to the point where I can start developing games. I probably won’t post as frequently as other members since I'm shy and I don’t understand everything I read here yet.

Welcome to Omnimaga 3rik
I'm sure you will get some peanuts shortly.
You sound similar to me, with the first forums, Ti-BAISC, and the wanting to learn more about programming ;D
Hope you enjoy Omnimaga, and this is certainly an awesome community for learning how to program calculators :D
-
Welcome here :D This is the perfect place to learn programming in my opinion, don't be afraid to ask questions.
Also have some complimentary peanuts:
!peanuts
Have fun :)

Curses! I lost the game.
Welcome to Omnimaga! Like I'm sure everybody else is saying, feel free to ask loads of questions -- even ones that aren't related to calculator programming in particular.
-
Thank you for the welcoming greetings and for the peanuts.
If I have any questions I'll ask.
P.S. I noticed while registering that the rules on the register page don't match the rules on the rules page
-
Wait I got rickroll'd by 3rick how did you know?
that we rickroll?
-
I have been reading Omnimaga for the past month or two. I've just been building up the courage to register.
-
Heya and welcome here, and nice rickroll :P
And yeah the rules are kinda outdated on that page. I suggested a while ago that the staff just change the page to simply link to the other rules, so when updating them they no longer need to update them at two places at once and to reduce the page size, but I don't know what happened to it.
Anyway I hope you enjoy your stay as well as calculator programming ;D
-
Oh ok have you signed up at ticalc.org
-
No. Should I register? I don't know very much about ticalc.org. What advantages does it have over Omnimaga?
-
It's more of an archive and news site.
-
ticalc.org is pretty much THE repository for calculator programs (good and bad). It really doesn't have much of a community, though. When you finish making a game, it's usually a good idea to upload to ticalc, but until then, it's not really worth the bother of registering.
-
Well Omnimaga is mainly a calc game discussion and programming/hardware help forums, with a small downloads section where active members can upload notable games they made, while ticalc.org is mostly a general calculator download website where you can find almost every kind of game, although there is no quality control. In summary Omnimaga is more a discussion website while ticalc.org is mainly a downloads website.
-
Thanks. I'll keep it in mind for when I create something worth archiving.
-
Oh. The rules. Yeah I should update the ones in the registration page to point to the actual rules page. Nobody bothered to do that yet.
-
What I thought is something like
To finish registering, you must agree with the forum rules below:
ENGLISH (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=2) | FRANÇAIS (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=11) | NEDERLANDS (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=10) | DEUTSCH (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=22) | PORTUGUÊS (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=23)
Then click the "Agree" button below.
Right now it's the 3 first languages in one page and I bet the giant wall of text is kinda intimidating for some new members. X.x
-
Ah good idea. I might add something like Click "Agree" if you agree with the forum rules.
-

You have learned from the best.
also, nice job with the link
(hmmm, from now on, i'm gonna copy and paste the text instead of clicking links :P)
And welcome to omnimaga.
Do you know about irc?
you can talk with a bunch of ppl from onmimaga, including myself, and ask questions or help ppl.
Hope you have a great time!

You have to have 40 posts though, so find some topics that interest you... And introductions don't count :P
-
I'm aware of IRC but I've never actually used it. I've seen the logs of the channel and I once found it on efnet.org so I kind of understand how it works.
-
Yeah the 40 posts limit is only if you use it directly from the site. (Spambot protection)
-
Just like mass texting, kinda. You should rack up some posts and join us, it doesn't take long on enjoyable posts
-
Right, If you use an IRC client or an in browser chat client you can connect to #omnimaga on efnet.
-
Hmm, something I've always wondered -- how is it possible for a spambot to get over 40 posts in a row without being banned?
-
cool, get an irc client.
for infos on that:
Windows:
i like xchat, but some ppl like chatzilla? i think that is the other popular one
Linux:
xchat again, but i personally ( and juju and kittygirl ) use irssi, 'cept it heavily modded
Mac:
i have colloquy for my ipod, idk about xchat compatability.
-
Yeah, for Windows there's mIRC (shareware), XChat-WDK and Chatzilla (Firefox extension), for Linux you have xchat, irssi and Weechat (last two in command line, nice if used with ssh and screen on a server) and for Mac you have Colloquy and XChat Aqua. Otherwise you can use http://chat.efnet.org/ or http://chat.mibbit.com/ in browser (use EFNet as server and #omnimaga as channel). I used XChat a lot before switching back to irssi.
IRC is kinda fun for getting help in real time.
-
Okay I have Xchat set up. It looks easy enough to use.
-
Why am I always sleeping when they come :'( ?
Hello ! Welcome here !
I probably won’t post as frequently as other members since I'm shy and I don’t understand everything I read here yet.
Well this is why we are here, if you don't understand, just ask and we'll explain (well not me because I don't understand either, often ;))
-
Heya, and welcome to the forums :)
I hope you get started with Lua, as its a fun language to learn (and not so hard).
And as others noted, don't be shy on asking questions, there is always someone here that can help you ;)
-
Welome here! I'm gonna get you back for that rickroll. >:D
anyway, here are you interactive peanuts! Click to eat. ;)

Hey, 3rik! Welcome to Omnimaga!
I have been reading Omnimaga for the past month or two. I've just been building up the courage to register.
Sounds like me :P
If you are interested in Lua, I would suggest that you check out the inspired-lua.org (http://inspired-lua.org) site, where we have documentation of most things, as well as tutorials on how to use those funcitons. :)
Have fun! :D
-
Thanks for the peanuts yunhua98 but I know better than to click on links that go to starcraft.swf :P
As for Lua, I am currently reading a book and some tutorials to learn the basics. When I get to Nspire Lua I'll defiantly go to http://www.inspired-lua.org.
-
wow, you're even better than me at knowing this kind of stuff, even though I lurked around here 3 months before signing up. ;D
Also, what OS do you have on your CX? I look forward to seeing what you'll come up with. ;)
-
My CX is currently running OS 3.0.2.1791.
-
Hmm, something I've always wondered -- how is it possible for a spambot to get over 40 posts in a row without being banned?
THis almost happened before. Some WoW advertising bots posted like 31 times in one minutes.
-
Welcome to Omnimaga, 3rik. I hope you have a wonderful time here. :)
