Title: Hello Omni!
Post by: Roondak on September 27, 2013, 10:52:55 pm
Hello everybody. I go as Roondak, or Roon for short. I've been lurking for about 3 months now, but I thought it good to finally make an account. I got my first graphing calculator, the TI-Nspire CX CAS last June, and I've had experience coding on/for it in TI-Basic, Lua, and C. I'm currently working on a text adventure engine for TI-Basic, which I will plan to release and use to make text adventure games.

Anyways, I guess I'll see you all around the forum.

Heya and welcome here :).

(By the way, what's your Nspire OS and revision letter on the back of the calc?)

Thanks! I'm running 3.1 CX CAS and I got a model D. When I got it last June (Walmart) it had quite the layer of dust on it. My friend and I got the last 2 from that store though, so if they ordered more they're probably I or J (or maybe not, who knows?).

EDIT: How do I attach a file to a post? I want to create a topic for a new project, and have a file attached.

BTW, how much did you pay for the rusty (i mean, dusty) one? ;)

Thanks. You're a lucky guy. Over here (Portugal) it still costs about 160.0 EUR (= 222.983 CAD), ~40% more expensive, yeah! It looks like we live in some sort of technological apartheid. We earn less why should we (our kids) pay a lot more. crazy, imho! Not your fault, of course. ;)

Dang! That whole USD=EUR things retailers do must be really nasty.

Thanks! Seems to be quite a few Canadians on here.

Also, if I may ask, why is there such a large French language calculator community?

I dunno, seems it's pretty huge in France. Maybe because the admins of TI-Planets are teachers and graph calcs are integral part of the education there. They even post stuff about the exams. Here we only use them in grade 10-11 and we used TI-82's basic features at the time, with very few people interested in more than calculating 2+2.

Oh well. Fun fact: Omnimaga has been founded in Canada.

Back in the days, we didn't have many French people from France because most French people used 68K calculators or Casio calcs. However, when the Nspire arrived it pretty much replaced 68K calcs and somehow the 84+ line got more popular again there too.

Omnimaga gets many French people because of its affiliation with TI-Planet and Planète-Casio, although it might also have something to do with the fact that I, the founder, used to release many French TI programs over here.
