Hi
« on: September 12, 2010, 03:11:34 am »
I am HOMER-16. I can program in TI-BASIC (fluently) and I am currently learning HTML, CSS, JS, and C/C++. Eventually I want to be able to program in ASM.

I love video games and I hope to be a video game designer.

Already I've found this site to be helpful. I look forward to participating in some of the competitions.

Spoiler For IMPORTANT NEWS!:
Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

Hi HOMER-16!  Is it safe to assume that you are 16 due to your username?  By TI-Basic, do you mean the ti 83+ series of TI-Basic?  Great to hear about the HTML, etc stuff!  You should check out jBOS, and help me and Eeems develop for it! :D

Computer Programming
Competition consists of project coding and output, a skill-related written test and an interview. The contestants will receive a packet that includes instructions to the written test and each of the two projects. Each project's specifications are written for Visual Basic, Java, C#, C++ and RPG. The projects will be saved on the Desktop in a folder called "SkillsUSA Contestant#_." All projects will be downloaded to a jump drive or diskette (whichever the student prefers) and transferred to a main station to be printed, both code and screen.
:D

My high school has something very similar, TSA (technology student assoc.)  Its got some nice competitions, but not nearly as many as yours has.  :)

Hmm. That quote you posted is interesting. I didn't know there was a computer programming comp. (Though it only makes sense that it does) I wonder if the RPG is basically games. :? Or is it just the name of some programming language :P

lol, I didn't even read that part :P  I just saw the word "program" so I copy-pasted ;)  TSA has something similar
Quote
Video Game Design   Participants (three teams per state) develop an E-rated game that focuses on the subject of their choice. The game should be interesting, exciting, visually appealing and intellectually challenging. The game should have high artistic, educational, and social value. A working, interactive game will be submitted on a DVD for evaluation.

Also:
Quote
Webmaster  Participants (one team of three to five members per chapter) are required to design, build and launch a World Wide Web site that features the school’s career and technology education program, the TSA chapter, and the chapter’s ability to research
topics pertaining to technology. Conference semifinalists participate in an on-site interview to demonstrate the knowledge and expertise gained during the development of the website with an emphasis on Internet and web history, web design (school, chapter and design brief pages), and research about cutting edge advances in technology. Click here for the design brief.

I'm glad to see you around here. I hope you stick around. I also can't wait to see what you will come up with in terms of projects  :) You seem to be interested in a lot of programming-related stuff so far. Are you planning to do calculator stuff for a while?

As for RPGs, they are role-playing games, such as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.

I think he is referring to how RPG was listed with the other languages.  Either way, it's odd that they put that there with the rest of the languages...

Edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_RPG

Edit: Edit: I know right!  I wanted to do a FPS soo baddlly.  The only workaround I thought of was to make it like bloons.  You are the monkey, and you go around shooting darts at the enemies.  That would take it down to E :)

Edit: Edit: Edit: I was about to say that they should raise it to M... but being highschool... with high school guys... yeah...

Oh ok, lol. Wow I didn't notice and I am surprised there would be a language called RPG O.o.

As for calcs, you should probably look into Axe Parser as well after you are comfortable enough with TI-BASIC. Of course ASM is a great option too since it allows even more freedom but Axe can be an alternative if you find ASM too hard to learn or code but find TI-BASIC too slow and limited for what you need.

Yes Im going to do calc stuff until I get good enough with C/C++ to take over.

I already got an idea for a project. I might post it a little further into production.

Edit: Yes I saw that Axe Parser. I will try it out.

Also note, the introduce me section doesn't raise post counts, so you will probably want to announce your project elsewhere :P  (I mean, everyone wants to buy a blue lobster with their post counts.  right!? :D)
