Title: I'm back.
Post by: Dapianokid on September 17, 2013, 09:53:32 pm
Yeah. No words. Might have words to explain my abscence, later, but for the time being, just know that even though I've been active, I haven't really been "around" like I could've been. hai guyz

Welcome back, Dapianokid!

I totally did not expect the peanuts. But it made for a very warm welcome!

DJ_O, life really took over. I realized I had a lot of work to do in the piano and in simply growing up as a person. Reclusing(word?) in my room alone all the time away from people was not the way to do so. i also got extremely addicted to speedcubing. First video is up, today, by the way!

Anyways, I also think I suffered calculator overload.

WALL OF TEXT!

Basically, once I got an Nspire CX CAS, I had no need for any other scientific calculator for math purposes. One of the very important things about calc programming was that I had to use it often at the time, therefore, it was always around when I needed it because I needed it. Once I turned it on, however, I almost always got distracted and wanted to play games, write stuff, or hack/beta test for people/mess with glitches. I would finish school in the morning just to mess with my calculator all day long. Plus, it was the only platform on which I could play video games when I was grounded and Pokemon on the calculator was where I spent my days. Sersiouly, hundreds of hours. I don't know where I'd be without TI-Boy SE! Thanks, calc84maniac! helped me get through some dark days...
Then I suddenly got my Nspire. I never had a reason to pick up my old calc again because I was spoiled with GBA emulators and amazing math functions and polar graphing (the most fun thing about the Nspre, IMHO).
So, my other 4 calcs (all of the 8x line, one of them I wanted so badly I went to unjust means to get it!) simply sat there and collected dust. I don't even know where one of them is now, and I was even considering selling an 84+SE with 128k RAM on it to a friend so  I could buy more cubes and puzzles.
Sad day for the community (even if I don't really contribute lol)!
Then, I tried fooling with Nspire Linux. I was so into it and sure that if I could get minecraft working on the Wii via WiiLinux (which I did. I so frickin' did.), I could get xpdf running on Nspire. I got Linux working, but it wasn't configured right and for a while I didn't know what to do. I got discouraged, as I couldn't load an FS from a USB even after I spent a buttload on a powered USB hub. (I know what the problem was, just not interested anymore)
I finally just decided to quit with it. I was so upset about my failure (which I wasted many hours trying to not fail) that I actually stopped calcs altogether for a while. I blamed it on it being a childish pursuit. I also threw away most things I had built out of spare electronics, including the cell phone I had built.
Oh, what a fool I was!

I got a DS, a palm, and many other devices. I got my computer freedom back (and I don't abuse it, either! Learned my lesson; no prnoo [you get what that word is]!) and I became interested again. I still have many more powerful and better hackable and bigger userbase homebrew community devices, but I wasn't spoiled any longer. I had a taste of everything I needed that the world had to offer and I picked up my calc and wrote an extremely optimal PONG game in Ti Basic. It all started from there and I was once again addicted to calcs.

Then I remembered the great commmunities like Omni and Cemetech!

So, here I am! :) Lesson learned? Don't get spoiled by newer calcs.
I'mma go buy a CSE for cheap from my best friend now. I've used one once and the OS is disappointing, but hopefully the community progs will be good quality. Hopefully I can help you guys learn about optimal screen interaction routines...
REAL MORAL OF THE STORY?!

Shall I call you Calc-Buddha? No, seriously. In AP World this past week we were talking about religions, and their histories. You basically just did the whole "4 noble truths" thing, related it to calcs and stuff, and finished it be being more moderate...

/me respects your thought process, and +1s

Long story short, don't pay attention in AP World again, or you will draw parallels to things that have nothing to do with with AP World.

Edit: subbed to your youtubes, btw

I say netham55 because of an IRC joke from a while back, me and Sor were saying 55 to tick him off, the mighty blue one...
Yeah, I don't take credit for wisdom. Coffee is the wiser portion of my writings. :P
I couldn't stay gone. and thanks for subbing! I'm going to do more vids, pimath. piano and cubing.
dem atari peanuts...
I'm thinking of writing a 3D free flying camera Rubik's cube sim for CSE or CX CAS. :) just a considerable project...

I'm glad you managed to get interested into calcs again. I know that some people lose interest but then it revives after a few years too. Also I'm glad you didn't throw away the calcs with the rest of the electronics lol, although even then I wish you still kept the home-made cellphone so we could see how it looks like or works D:

Anyway good luck in your future calc projects and I hope to see you around for quite a while. Also avoid warez sites if possible if you don't want to get in trouble again. They have viruses sometimes.

warez...?
Yeah my home-made was the collection of parts pieced together painstakingly in the span of 3 minutes time from many other devices which were all compatible with the OS for Nokia 6350... It has a story behind it.
my phone in a nutshell:
I was on the phone with my ex on what I didn't know would be our last phone call spent while we were together. She dumped me and we talked it over when she did and I said I didn't want to stop talking until we were both sure and my phone was on it's last leg. I told her I'd build a new one if I had to if it meant 3 more minutes with her. I got 2 and a half with her after having built it. Haven't heard her voice since.
*sobs uncontrollably*
Nah, I'm over it.

Anyway, yeah I would love to have moneys to fuel my hobby further but 15 is still too young for a job. i applied at a piano selling store but they were afraid all I'd do was play their pianos, even after having been in and out of that store for 4 years of my life. That's like my home, man. Lane music changed my life and won't even give me a job. BLARGH RAGING ON THIS FORUM
So for nows I can't really do much on in the way of projects. but I can play minecraft. and cube. don't ever forget cubing.

No one ever said that it has to be legal where you work. My friend started interning when he was about 12 (the same company where I intern).

Dapianokid by Warez I mean NES/SNES/GBA ROM websites, illegal software downloads, etc. The issue with those websites is that they often contains viruses (inside the site code or downloads). Although I personally don't care about the viruses, with your parents I don't think you should take any chance.

Oh I don't take any chances. I'm well aware of the viruses on these sites (especially coolROM, my favorite place to get ROMS) and I take countermeasures and make sure Dad understands my whereabouts. As long as he KNOWS what I'm doing, even if it's dangerous, if he knows I'm reposinble to handle the situations that could arise, he's cool with practically whatever I do.
He doesn't condone illegal hacking or pirating, though, and as I've done both in the past, he has had to set limits :P
