Title: New user
Post by: forthegreatergood on January 19, 2014, 08:22:14 pm
Hi everyone!
I am new to omnimaga, and I am just starting to program.
Here's a brief description of what I've done so far:

- BASIC (6th grade-nothing too extensive). I created a basic tic tac toe game
- C# web forms.  I created a few applications to do calculations (mainly for science fair lol)
- Visual Basic - this was a school course, so not too rigorous i guess you could say.
- Java - I only know the basics of it.  I don't know any fancy algorithms.

I plan to start learning C++ to make ndless applications and for USACO.  How should I proceed about learning it?
I don't have any compiler downloaded (I have a Mac OS X i3 by the way).  A few people recommended CodeBlocks,
but I have heard mixed reviews about it.

Any suggestions?

P.S. Is there an introductory page to this website? I'm very confused

You can eat them, throw them at people, put nukes in them, teach them the hokey pokey...
Lots of things.

I self-taught me C++ at the beginning with some book where i mainley learned the syntax and variable types, then i just started with some projects and kept googling questions i had and thus learned more and more. As compiler I use GCC :)

Hi, have some peanuts:

Luckily they are free here xD

On Mac OS X you'll have to install XCode + clang and use XCode with Makefiles or QtCreator if you want something cross-platform.

For the Ndless SDK, see http://hackspire.unsads.com/wiki/index.php/C_and_assembly_development_introduction_on_Linux.
Should work on OS X, but idk where you'll get the build deps. Maybe ask tangrs, if he still uses OS X.

Hi!

If you are on Windows start here for Ndless (http://ndlessly.wordpress.com/ndless-for-developers/), on Linux see Legimet's message above.
C is the most widely used language for Ndless programs, although there are already some games written in C++ it's rather new. We are looking forward reading your experience and trying to help.
