Title: Well hi there.
Post by: Smitty on September 12, 2010, 11:31:03 am
hey, i'm new here, and my name is smitty. i've never programmed for a calc before, but i figure the best way to do so would be to install ndless on my new (and only) calculator. but there's a big problem... it came with OS 2! then i found a thing called nleash, which is supposed to help me downgrade, but i need a clickpad. moral of the story, anyone know where to get a clickpad?

I _think_ you can buy it @ti.com. Not sure though.

Hi and welcome, Smitty! There are probably clickpads for sale online. Otherwise, I don't know, sorry.

Ndless is only needed for ASM, by the way. You can program in BASIC fine without it :)

Hi and welcome here!

I think TI had them for $10 on their site for a while, but I'm not sure if they're still that cheap and still available.

thanks for the peanuts, everybody! :D by the way, does anybody know why i need a clickpad to use ndless in the first place?
Title: Re: Well hi there.
Post by: apcalc on September 13, 2010, 05:17:22 pm
Because OS 1.1, the only OS that Ndless supports, only supports the clickpad (or the 84 keypad, but that is different).

The touchpad won't work with OS 1.7 or below. It will just cause errors like rebooting loops.

Here's a basic rundown on clickpads and touchpads

Ndless was made for an old version of the OS, v1.1, and the OS has since seen many upgrades, 1.4, 1.6, 1.7, 2.0 and 2.1. 1.4 onward had fixed the exploit ndless used. The team that made it is working on a new one, though, so eventually touchpads will work!

Version 2.0 and 2.1 were released when the Black nspire came out, with the touchpad. Up until this point the OS had only been programmed to handle Clickpads, and will not recognize touchpads, resulting in a constant reboot or crashing. A black nspire can have a blue clickpad inserted into it: the calculators are exactly  (well, close enough) the same, and you can install an older os using the clickpad.

Welcome to omnimaga!

Well then could I just use an 84 keypad? I got that for free with my Nspire. (it's coming by mail)
Title: Re: Well hi there.
Post by: Jonius7 on September 13, 2010, 11:46:50 pm
lucky you a free 84 keypad. do you have a touchpad? is that why you get it for free? (damn i still don't have one)
Title: Re: Well hi there.
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 13, 2010, 11:48:31 pm
You would need to be able to access the Nspire home screen, which, with such OS, would require the clickpad, as removing the touchpad would turn off the calc anyway and putting in the 84 keypad would put you in 84+ mode. To use the 84+ keypad with Ndless you have to run an ASM/C program like gbc4nspire. Removing the keypads will not turn it off and you will be able to play with the 84+ one, except all keys will be scrambled.
Title: Re: Well hi there.
Post by: Smitty on September 14, 2010, 03:50:17 pm
Oh.. Darn. Well, since the 84+ keypad goes into 84+ mode, could i just use the gbc emulator written for the 84+? (along with all other awesome ti-84 stuff on this site)

The TI-84+ emu doesn't run on the Nspire 84+ emu, due to lack of undocumented instructions support (same reason why MirageOs won't run well on the Nspire). Blame TI for that D:

Well, I don't plan on using an Nspire emu, I was asking if most 84+ homebrewz (including the GB emu) would run on an Nspire with the 84+ keypad.

Post by: meishe91 on September 14, 2010, 08:27:25 pm
The GameBoy emulator for the 83+SE/84+(SE) will not work on the Nspire, no matter what (I believe). Doesn't matter if you have the keyboard in or not. The only GameBoy emulator that will work is the GameBoy Color one that you need Ndless to run. I do not own a Nspire so I can't completely attest to this. But that's based off of what I have just understood. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Most other games/programs for the 84+ do work though, I believe. Again, sorry if I'm wrong.

anywho, yeah, thanks to TI not caring about us, gbc4nspire is the only GB emu for the nspire

Oh.. Well I guess I'll just try other 84+ homebrew first, and wait for Ndless to support newer OSs... Or at least 'til Christmas when I'll ask for the Clickpad :P

That won't run on the 84+/Nspire since it's for the 89T. As for the Mirage patch, the first time I ran Mirage I forgot to install the patch x.x
