You've been great, folks!
« on: May 01, 2013, 04:55:30 pm »
Thought I'd let Omnimaga know (refer anybody who asks where I am to this post, even if I AM going to stay. I'll probably become more active as time goes on and my Dad isn't so strict. Recent happenings have this computer on thin ice, though.):
I've been limited to almost nothing on the computer due to parental restrictions. Not complaining, just figured I'd let you know I can't download, upload, install, uninstall, or pretty much do anything with this computer. So, any projects I had lingering left incomplete should be deemed "abandoned" and I'm pretty much not going to be here often. It's not fun if I can't just be around you guys all day everyday... I have no OmnomIRC access. Or any chat access of any kind. I am forced to IE7, with like 6 applications constantly monitoring it. So IRC would be super slow anyway.

I may finish the DJ_O songs, but I'll be one of those ghosts who only post when they have a new project. Expect no more than like 1 post per day, unless I get used to IE7 (Right. Because that'll happen.)
To put it into perspective for you guys, it took me 5 minutes to log into facebook. With MFF, 5 seconds was deemed unworthy and would force me to put it to death. When I DID get there, I had to close at least 10 windows warning me of inapproprtiate content. My Dad's own blog (He is a blogger, writing about controversial topics in Christiandom! Great guy! Really christian! Super strict!) isn't even allowed because it has the word... Er... Hrmm.. I wanna be able to read this topic again...
H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS.
...Omnimaga has like 6 inapopropiate content stuff, and I'm lucky I can come at all. It's a very H4X0RZ oriented site and... While that's fun, my Dad wants this computer on lockdown and isn't taking any chances. Just letting me use it is a chance enough to him, so I'm getting privileges here. But, if you need more examples... I can tell he is now constantly monitoring me, though. A lot of my BLAHhackingBLAH stuff (this is to keep it from detecting the site and kicking me off and restricting access.) has been taken away, especially hex editing stuff. But my mouse is flickering (sure sign of sending it's coordinates every few seconds) and GIFs take like 6 times as long to load, and play back extremely slowly once and then are normal, which suggests all GIFs are monitored as well. There is a lot of other stuff... I can't visit a majority of the stuff on Omnimaga, though. Keep me in mind when you write news, next time, DJ_O. I don't wanna stay outta the loop *voice gets pretty shaky*
I just discovered that I can't even use search engines... Somebody link to the page with FAQ's on gamefaqs for RCT Deluxe.. Roller Coaster Tycoon...
I won't quit on GeNspire, either. But somebody should seriously complete it.
Plus, I'll still give my trollish feedback. I feel like I've been with Omnimaga forever...

I am not going to be gone forever, I promise.
But... I'll not be quite as free to respond when somebody asks me to "sing us a sog, pianoman... sing us a song tonight" *breaks down in tears*
I'll be Bach, my Franz. Liszt yourself here if you are going to Greig (grieve) my abscence."
Goodbye Omnimaga. (ish) :'(

O_o

That's probably the most strict I've ever seen a parent be to one of our members here. It's always sad to see it happen though.

I hope the restrictions are lightened up soon, however. The GIF loading thing is just crappy downloading speeds. It's more likely your upload/download traffic is monitored. Also, IE..

Spoiler For IMPORTANT NEWS!:
Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

Lucky you: I have physical restrictions (i.e., I can't use my parent's interntet accessible computers until I scrub a toilet that has crap on the seat.)

Is your dad bringing home his work computer for the family to use or something? I can't really think of any other good reason to be so picky about it. :/
(if that's the case, person reading this: get a computer for the rest of the home. :P)

At the very least they/he could update to something that actually works/is newer/more secure/etc.

WHAT THE???

Not quite as bad as my dad a year ago. He made it impossible for me to log in without him entering a password that I didn't know first.

I got sick of it, and so I booted into linux and got my password back. (and may have made myself the default admin while at it...)

I was grounded for about 2 months. My dad couldn't change me back to regular user (because I became the default admin). He still is not used to it and blames me for any network troubles.

I eventually got a netbook and dual-booted it. He's now fine with that (though it took forever for him to let me).
I am Bach.

This is why I wish there was a way to pass a petition/bill to render any internet censorship attempt by parents illegal (other than innapropriate/illegal material), because this sucks when someone has his hobbies taken away due to such things. The only time it should be legal by parents to do that is if you are under 13, if it negatively affects your mood or if you use Internet too much (kinda like parents limiting video gaming to 1 hour a day). Else it's just flat-out censorship or trying to decide what kind of hobbies you are allowed to participate into.

Anyway I hope you don't end up the same way as JustCause did :/ (he was basically locked out of Omnimaga until he moves out of his parents home, which probably happened by now, but since he was restricted around when he was 16, he has since lost interest in calcs and was never to be seen again here). Any chance you could get your own computer or a different way to get online at one point?

Anyway when you get online keep in mind I try to avoid using more than 500 KB worth of gifs in news, but I have no control on what Critor posts. Hopefully you can still post from time to time (like once or twice a day, although minus the trolling, so that you don't get locked out of Omni by admins either >.<)

That's a horrible idea. It would just be taking away yet another right from parents. Parents already can't spank their kids, let's not make it any worse. And the government shouldn't be messing with family life anyway.

Yes, I agree with flyingfisch.
I can understand that it may not be easy, and I think you know very well that your parents only have good intentions for you. When I think about it, if I would get kids later on in life, I'd probably also put a blocker on the computer.  And trust me, it's not easy to find a good proof blocker, which is probably the reason that you have several.

I think that probably the main thing your dad is trying to avoid is inappropriate material. And to get that really good blocked it probably requires him to block all those other stuff.

Maybe you could talk with you dad and ask him to unblock specific sites, to make it easier for you(rather that blocking specific sites)?

It's better to have a useless computer than go to H E double hockey sticks with a useful one, eh? :P
