Title: English homework: calculator ad
Post by: NeoCrisis on November 24, 2010, 12:30:19 pm
HI everyone!

My english teacher gave us a little homework in order to prepare ourselves to our mid-term exam (in 2 weeks). We have to create an advert using 15 devices (I thinks he means figures of speech), and I chose to create an ad about a "not real" new version of the TI-84+SE.

So I would need help to get a picture of a modified calc (a painted one, I mean) and stupid features to make it more funny ;D
The homework is due on Monday the 29th, so I have a bit of time, but I don't really know what to include in it: I have the structure (zigzag effect with the pictures), but I need the content (in french we call it "la forme"(shape) et "le fond" for the footer thing (sorry guys, really difficult to explain it clearly :/ )

Thanks to anyone who could help me with this task! ;) ;)

So, basically, you want us to help with your homework? Sorry, no can do. That kinda defeats the purpose.  I wish you luck on it, though. (Also, this doesn't really belong in Other calculator discussion and news)

EDIT: I know this post might have sounded kind of rude.  If you would clarify what exactly you would like to see in a fake calc, I'm sure I could help, since I have photoshop.  Also, the 29th is 5 days away. That is not much time at all. ;-)

For the record, it might have sounded rude, but I do stand by what I said.  I will help, not do. Seriously, though, good luck.

What about a button that destroys the calculator? Hah

He is free to ask homework help if he wants. Do not do what you did on United-TI one year ago. A lot of people left that forum due to posts like that. He is not begging to get the entire work done for him, he just needs help on some parts, in this case a calc with a modified look, kinda like Kerm's Ultimate Calc (I think it was that). That said, I don't think a lot of us own a painted calc so I wonder if it might be best to just photoshop a regular one?

I think that's what he meant.

I wasn't too sure, since he said painted calc. It might be best with Photoshop or similar softwares, though, since he would have more freedom in designs.

Would these be what you're looking for?

EDIT: Staples also has a high resolution flash image of a blue version here (http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/moreviews?catentryId=337324&langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&imageClickSequence=0)

I've heard of a fake 84+ gold edition, I'm not sure if there was an image though :(
Might be an idea?

Ticalc.org, VTI skins?

I'm not seeing any 84s though...

May be it was a modded calculator.

I've written a little article about modded TI on my website (in French) : http://www.tisoftwares.net16.net/mods_ti.html (http://www.tisoftwares.net16.net/mods_ti.html). Feel free to use the images for your homework.  ;)

Take a look at the bottom of the page : there are some beautiful ti83+ (sadly, the images are rather small...). There is also a ti83+ with a pipe in it (to smoke weed  ;D ).

There was a fake news on Omnimaga when someone released a grayscale quadratic solver with a fake TI-84+ Gold edition including the quadratic solver, but I forgot the name of the image. A fake TI forum was started when the fake news was posted: http://s12.invisionfree.com/qslf

Yeah actually the quadratic solver was by him. I started the forum but I think he has like 90% of all posts. :P

I found the pic:

There's always Kerm's Ultimate Calculator Projects:

http://www.cemetech.net/projects/item.php?id=9

I believe the second one may be what you're looking for. ;D

Hum... I don't like it, but maybe you do  ;D

If you want the .psd I can give it to you by e-mail, since I can't upload.

DJ, I think it would be cool if we were able to upload .psd files :) (attach)

I kinda like the Ultimate calc, but it would be cool to see one in blue or green. That said, Cemetech is mostly red so it fits pretty well.

Also I'll check if PSD is enabled. I thought I did but I might have forgotten. However, not everyone can open PSD files :(

That looks quite nice ScoutDavid.  How did you go about making that? Did you just use the blur feature, or was it a built in effect. It looks more like a built in effect/theme to me.

Yes, but not anyone can open .8xp, .8xv files too ;P

I tried to attach both .png and .psd, so it would be suitable for everyone :)

Yeah but at least with 8xp files you can open them without having to buy or download a 600 MB software (Photoshop), you can simply use SourceCoder, so it's good if your computer won't let you install stuff.

That said, I added psd extension to the list. Just make sure to always include a PNG and a PSD.

Thanks for update. It's fair to have both PSD and a easily-viewed-by-everyone-file too (PNG, JPG)

I think it is the watercolor filter or something like that from Photoshop.

Also, if there is a file extension not supported or something like that you can always put it into a  zipped file and upload that (unless DJ has a problem with that, not sure if that's violating anything; was just a on-the-spot idea).

Two filters used, simple, hope rayquaza likes it :P

Wait, I think I added psp extensions instead of psd. X.x I'll check again, now...

And Meishe91 it is fine. I thought about just allowing every extension because the list is ridiculously large now, but I worry that it will get abused and that new members will upload virus-infected EXE/PHP files. There are no extension denying features on SMF. :(

I was mainly looking for the calcs that (oh geez, DJ, help me! "personnalisé" in english ;D )
I already have the text, I just need some pictures, and maybe a few funny/not useful features (real or not) about the calc...

[EDIT] I had some photos, do someone know a way of contacting Kerm from Cemetech???

I kinda like the Ultimate calc, but it would be cool to see one in blue or green. That said, Cemetech is mostly red so it fits pretty well.
But the Ultimate Calc 2 was blue...

Oh, I must not have paid much attention then. I only thought it was the red one. I recommend PM'ing him on Cemetech or e-mailing him, since he's busy lately and not checking here as often.

Also personalisé means personalized, but if you mean it in a feature/configuration way, it would be custom or customized, I think.
