Title: Help with terms that describe fractions
Post by: Zera on April 08, 2010, 03:30:19 pm
I'm wondering if there are actual terms to describe some common fractions. For instance: If you're looking at 1/2, you can say that the relevant object we're talking about is "halved." You can also look at 1/4 and say the relevant object is "quartered." These are about the only terms I know of to describe fractions. What I would like to find are similar terms to describe fractions such as 2/3 and 1/3. What do we say about an object that is only two thirds of its whole?

Surely, there would be a list of such terms somewhere.

I've never really heard any. I've always just heard them be called by their fractions (2/3 would be "two-thirds" and such). Sorry I can't be of any help.

I've heard of "thirded", but my spellchecker doesn't recognize that as an actual word...

You could always try using Google, maybe you can find something of that sort.

HOLY NECROPOST BATMAN! Actually, not that bad, but still.  Zera doesn't come around here any more, I don't think.

Oh, yes, Right. I was actually thinking about how zeda should be back, shouldn't she?

Well, my school hasn't started either. It's not unthinkable that hers might be similar.

In my defense, I can't start new threads right now while I'm at school for some reason. And I was kinda wondering the same thing, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to revive the thread. Of course, I also completely missed how oldish the thread was...

Mine started yesterday, and my sister's started last week.

It's fine, no problem. And mine started last week as well.

Strange, sometimes computers at schools are really screwed up. X.x Darl sometimes can't even post at all, it says session timed out or something.

Also in your defense this sub-forum, while being newly created, includes topics since the very start of this SMF forum, and since it's a small section compared to the projects section we're all used to, I guess some necroposting might happen here sometimes :P.

But yeah Zera doesn't come here anymore. Xeda/Zeda will most likely come back soon, though.
