Title: Pair of numbers that can be written with the same set of symbols
Post by: Juju on February 05, 2013, 04:00:15 pm
I just found 42 and 666 can be written with the same set of symbols in a mathematical formula. Can you find out how I did it?

I'll edit the answer here later today (as I'm in the middle of a French course).

Edit: The answer:
Spoiler For Answer:
666, the Number of the Beast, can be written as a sum of all the natural integers between 1 and 36. (1+2+3+4+...+35+36) You can use the sigma notation:

36
Σ  x = 666
x=1

You can also write it as:

62
Σ  x = 666
x=1

Move the exponent 2 somewhere else:

6
Σ  2x = 42
x=1

which is the answer to life, the universe and everything.

QED. The beast and the universe are linked together.

2*3*3*37+0+0*3

33+3*3+0*2*7*0

Probably not the way you found because it's kind of .. constructed

I got it!

42: 42*1+666*0
666: 42*0+666*1

You guys are cheating, you're multiplying by 0.

I'll write up a real answer.

Your mind will be blown. Don't open the spoiler in the OP if you wanna find out by yourself.
