I haven't built anything in ages, but what would be cool to build are some Illusiat dungeons.

I haven't played Minecraft since september (due to school, calcs and Omni). Should get back to it during summer (that is in two weeks after I passed my exams).
Unfortunately I don't keep my maps.

I might as well post some of my newer stuff, although I'm not certain it actually qualifies as 'epic'

Anyways, here goes:

As you may have guessed, the interiors still need work. I never manage to finish my interiors, for some reason XD

Anyway, there's likely more coming, as soon as I bother to actually screenie them.

Now if only ImgURL wasn't down, I could see the pics. I guess I'll have to wait later >.<

Else maybe you can try Imageshack.

Yeah it just went back up now. It was down for about 15 minutes, along with some people's avatars. This looks nice by the way. :)

Btw is it hard to build trees (that looks good) in Minecraft?

No: plant sapling, use a bone meal on it, done.

For the generic trees, yes. However, getting one that looks exactly how you want it is another matter. That would involve either controlling the growth of a normal tree by placing blocks in certain places or just straight-out building one from the ground up.

However, this is, in fact, a generic world-generated tree./me was too lazy to prettify the surroundings :P

Something I wonder about Minecraft on desktop computers: What are the minimum specs requirements for a computer and/or server in order to get at least 30 FPS when 1 million TNT's are blowing up?

Thanks, I was wondering since if someone or myself were to build Illusiat/Reuben maps into Minecraft, for example, there are a lot of forest areas in there. :P

No it's free because you can learn to mod it. THough the PC version is somehow free (I bought it myself). :P

Seriously, guys, don't let it get out of hand. Besides, we're starting to get a bit off-topic here.

Thanks, I was wondering since if someone or myself were to build Illusiat/Reuben maps into Minecraft, for example, there are a lot of forest areas in there. :P
I could give it a try, I guess. The main problem with building something along those lines is that you want the tree walls to be relatively dense,so that you can't get through :P

It should be possible, though.

For that, you can place the trees close to eachother and add some additional leaves when nessicary. It's not that hard

True, but making it still look somewhat like a forest makes it a bit tougher.

That's rather nice looking Hayleia.
I used to build a nice little wooden house in all my worlds but after watching a certain let's play I switched to 9*9 rooms (more space efficient, and with a lot of mods your house expands quickly). :P Though I could try to adapt the design...

Well my rooms are 3x3 so they are kind of efficient space wise.
In fact I am pretty new to MineCraft so I don't really know what I need in a house. I just put a bed and a chest (the furnace and all are outside the house). This is also why I put so many torches on the ground, I don't know how many I should put to have no mobs spawn there.

A lot of light is usually efficient. You can try to make it look like street lights with glowstone and fences. :D

Also 9*9 is actually 7*7 inside, and you can put quite a lot of blocks along the walls in very little space. ;) That's pretty nifty on the PC version with mods where you have a lot of machines. I have these four blocks high inside so I have room to build crazy contraptions and a torch per wall is enough to light it up. :D
My industrial center is generally my main house and expands pretty quickly.

 :D Thanks!
The only problem I encounter when making these, is that I can almost never get the tree to look natural?! Somehow the aspect of the smaller trees seems so normal, but when they get big it's always some funky shape  XD. But yeah, thanks! This is the most "Natural" one I have made! ;D

Also props to GLSL shaders, that looks really awesome when you have a decent GPU. <_< I'm really impatient to get Jean-Frédérique II. :P

Yeah, with shaders, it's hard to find an optimized pack that looks great but runs well  <_<. I can give you the link to the one I use if you would like. It's the best one I have found so far.

XD, Yeah, shaders are EXTREMELY resource intensive, but look, beautiful. If minecraft, doesn't run well, try installing Optifine, it will definitely help, lol.

I've used Sonic Ether's shaders quite a lot on my machine and I must say it performs quite well (render distance needs to be on normal from time to time, but hey). I run it on my laptop with an nvidia GeForce GT630M. One thing's for sure though, OptiFine helps A LOT :)

So, Incase anyone, would like to know how I prefer to install shaders, here (magic launcher is handy).

1. Download Magic Launcher (I find it is the best, for non-manually installing mods)
http://magiclauncher.com/adloadx.php?f=MagicLauncher_1.1.5.exe

2. Download Optifine 1.5.2
http://optifined.net/adloadx.php?f=OptiFine_1.5.2_HD_U_D2.zip

3. Download Chocapic's shader (or whatever shader you prefer ;))
http://www.dl5.9minecraft.net/index.php?act=dl&id=1365361114

4. Download Shaders(THIS ONE(It is the only one, I found compatible with HD_U_D2))
http://cl.ly/OrkH

Don't worry I have used all of these downloads and they are OK.

5. Back up your .minecraft saves and what every you want to keep and get a fresh Jar.

6. Open Magic Launcher, hit setup. You should see a screen with 2 boxes click add, to the right of the middle box. Add Optifine FIRST, then add Shaders SECOND(Order is important, after all you have to load optifine first to be able to load shaders right?).

7. Hit ok, Then run minecraft from there.

8. Go to options/Shaders and hit the open shaderpack button.

9. Drag and drop the shaderpack (v3_preveiw... something, something for Chaco's).

10. Hit ok, and play minecraft.

Viola, If you have any questions PM me.

That's nothing. My old computer had an ATI Radeon 9250+ 128 MB (PCI) since I had no PCI-E nor AGP slot. It could barely run any game made after 2005 because it had no Pixel Shader 2.0 support. It was even worse before I install that card, as I had on-board Intel graphics >.<

This is kinda funny to read about video card shader issues in a Minecraft thread, considering how the graphics are very PSOne-like. :P

Actually Minecraft is freaking unoprtimized. I think Notch had A LOT of fun when writing the rendering engine. :P It's also quite CPU intensive but surprisingly you can largely decrease RAM allocation if you don't use many mods.
If you don't have a NASA computer, it'll be very hard to max it. :P

It might also have to do with using java as language. It's like using Casio PRIZM BASIC to make a full resolution raycaster with variable wall height support. Even if the PRIZM was overclocked and modded to run safely at 4 GHz the game would still run choppy.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooo GAAAAAAAWWWWWWWDDDDD D:

Ew, intel graphics, AND on-board. I feel so sorry for you. :/

And ya, They graphics may be PSone styled, but you must remember, they made it in Java. I personally like Java, but Minecraft SHOULD NOT have been made in Java. It is definitely not the right language for such a mass resource intensive game. They need to change it all to C++ already. The only reason they don't, is because it will, "make modding harder for the community". When really, Modding something so simple is not harder, it is just slightly different. (emphasis on slightly).

I guess for now we will have to stick with our extreme graphics cards to run such a simple game, XD.

Well without mods I get about 40-50 FPS on all high settings :). My computer isn't even "great" it's just average.

The worst part about on-board video and that ATI Radeon card is that it was impossible to setup the external card as your primary one, so the only way to use it was to use 2 monitors with everything such as games showing up in the 2nd screen by default.

I haven't played minecraft for a while, but iirc my laptop with its integrated intel hd 3000 poc can barely manage ~20fps w/ optifine. It's kind of painful, especially when a next-gen physics engine (http://rigsofrods.com) which hasn't even landed on big-name consoles yet gets about 30-40 :P
And I hear 1.5.X fps is even worse? How'd they manage that ???

As for things built, iirc I once made a wood plank cube house, ran out of wood and finished it off with dirt. Beautiful :P

You mean the 1.5.2 as in update? The FPS is worse because the more blocks they add, the more numbers the game must check through when loading chunks. literally, it is exponentially more time consuming.

Well, It'd be very long to port the whole game to C++. But GCC can compile java to native code. :D
Also modding is not that hard with native code, with proper APIs. Only issue is cross compilation for different OSes and 32/64 bit.

Oh ok I thought he reconsidered, since we still see Minecraft updates every now and then. I also thought that he was working on the PC version in solo.

Nah! Notch is working on 0x10c, which frankly, is the coolest thing I've seen so far. As far as pc minecraft Jeb and the crew are still making updates.

I am excited for 0x10c!

Oh and btw, modding minecraft would be MUCH harder in C++. Either on the community or on the mojang devs. Right now, minecraft is broken up into a series of classes inside the jar. Because of this, you can simply swap some out with new ones. If it was in C++, it would be one big block of code, with no such ability. Modding it directly would be nearly impossible, so the mojang devs would have to build in a new system like the Elder Scrolls games use, where you have an external set of files it can load in and integrate with the game. VERY COMPLICATED.

Either that or they release the source, which they don't look like they plan on doing for a long, long time.

On the Cemetech server, Fluf8x (my brother) and I (Fluffy8x) built this stadium.

Actually, in C++ you CAN actually organize the classes into separate files that can be switched in and out. You just have to set up your code to function with that properly :). They would have to change a lot of their code, but if they did what I just mentioned, they would keep the "classes having files" structure of the game. and would make modding the game almost as easy as Java. The game would not have to be "one big block of code" if they did this. But it isn't commonly done in C++, and would take a little extra time. Since Mojang seems to be very lazy (Most of the time), they probably "wouldn't find it feasible" and just stick with Java anyway. :/

Which kinda sucks because I think the game would be soooo much better in C++. :/

Oh, and I'm also excited for 0x10c :D, but I think I already said that...

I like it :D!

Plus in C++ modders would actually need to cross compile so that every player can use their stuff (unless Minecraft becomes Windoze only and UNIX users play with Wine). That's a bummer.

I just built that with a friend. TNT is a fun building material. :P The hole in the middle actually goes down to bedrock.

I once heard that Notch was planning to release the source code of Minecraft as soon as the sales start to die out. But I don't know for sure if this is true, especially now that Notch isn't working on Minecraft anymore.

But the Minecraft devs are planning a modding api which should make modding easier, but it has been delayed a lot, so if it will once get completed, we would still have to wait a lot for it.

Forge is largely cutting it for now at least. :D

I'm fairly sure they decided to just stick with the MCP and Bukkit. The devs of those projects get releases early, and they release simultaneously with minecraft updates.

Thanks! By the way, the stone thing with the blue symbol on it is stone brick, the thing to the right made of the stone with an orange symbol (cobblestone) is an semi-automatic wheat, carrot, and potato farm, and the structure resembling a cauldron at a distance is my house.

Diamond ore used a different symbol, and iron ore had a pink symbol.

More of my builds, this time on singleplayer.

The first two are of my house that I started in 1.2.5, when I started Minecraft.
The next three are of my 1.4 world. Unfortunately, it got corrupted.

Iirc, the "px" part is not needed. I could be wrong though.
But the thing I wonder most is, if you didn't use [img] tags, why put the urls in spoiler ? Not that it bothers me, but it is not really needed.

This isn't exactly something epic I built in minecraft, this is more of something epic I found in minecraft. Epically weird!

(Happens to me a lot actually :/)

looks like you're running more than a few mods. Do any of those alter the game's physics?

Haha, probably. It always does this when I run FTB, or Technic. So it's probably like IC2 or something.

Iirc when I tried ftb a few months back I didn't get any glitches like this..got <10 fps tho :P

Guessing it might be a graphics card thing.. Maybe update drivers?

Do you at least get a good FPS at vanilla?
If so, then I have the same situation. The problem might also lie in RAM, too. FTB adds a lot of new content.

The only thing I ever have lower than 60 FPS, is when shaders is on. If I turn of the Vsync or whatever (matches refresh rate to monitor) I get like ~300 FPS vanilla and ~220 with FTB.
