Title: Minecraft
Post by: Ti-newb on December 06, 2010, 01:31:12 am
Has anyone ever played the game.. MINECRAFT!?!?!?!?! Made by Notch?!!

if u havent, go check it out. www.minecraft.net (lol its not a rickroll  :) ) and maybe post up some screenies or stories lol =)

Btw, Notches development blog is here.. www.notch.tumblr.com

Info: Minecraft is a indie game originally made by 1 person: Notch. but since hes sold so many copies, he gained around.. 6 million dollars US, so he assembled a company named Mojang Specifications along with a team of.. idk 7? anyways, its cool check it out =)

Hey nice to see you around TI-Newb. :D

I haven't played it yet but I know Cooliojazz, Geekboy1011 and sometimes Juju plays. I think Genolo does, as well. I might give it a try eventually, although I was never in the Blockland/Roblox type of games in general.

I bought it yesterday. It's quite fun.

I play sometimes with Genolo and a bunch of friends, the multiplayer mode is quite fun.

What is the goal of the game by the way? Is it just some sort of sandbox where you build stuff?
Title: Re: MINECRAFT!
Post by: Geno on December 06, 2010, 02:01:03 am
Someone recently bought me minecraft, and I set up a server the other day where me and a few friends (including juju) have been playing.  Our current map can be found here (http://genolo.us.to:8080/img/minecraft_world-12-5-10-3.png).  Our house/main structure is in the bottom left above the forest fire.  It's the only large stone structure.  I built it up to the max height, and also there is a giant skybridge coming off of it.  If you look closely you can see some other interesting things, like a nature above ground lava pool north east, and in one of the desert areas really far away from spawn me and my friend built an igloo for shelter on night.

Yep, something like that, an infinite sandbox where you're supposed to mine stuff and build elaborate things with them. (refer to Geno's screenshot, for instance)

Ah I see. I remember seeing an earth built in Minecraft once. That must have taken a while. O.O

Thanks Omni =). and Geno, maybe il join ur server when i have more time, but at the moment, im doing branch mining for diamonds =]]]]]] lol and im gonna go crazy with it.

And omni, yeah its like basically.. the whole world is editable, and the world is as big as your computer can handle (usually like 7x bigger then the real earth).
and in the game, you can.. for example (in the paid version) Break down a tree and then take the tree and make planks using your crafting square. After that, you can take 4 planks and shape it in a square which would = a tool box. and then u can make more stuff.. like picks for getting through rock faster, or torches so you can see in the dark and other stuff like swords and arrows. and lots of people just go on and do random stuff =) PLUS!! YOU CAN MAKE MINECARTS (basically, you can make rollercoasters lol).

I play too, but I don't own it, so offline only for me :( I'll try to buy it soon though.
I can't wait to play online with the most recent update, it allows for survival on servers! :D

I stopped playing Minecraft the way it was supposed to be played a long time ago. ;D So here's a to-scale, fully accurate construction of a z80 microprocessor! It doesn't do anything without actual processing units, but all the pinouts are fully wired and would correctly mimic the pins on a physical z80 if they were connected to the right things.

Yep, Netham45 should host a server. Everyone on Lobsterland!
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 06, 2010, 12:44:34 pm
An Omni server would be cool. Maybe on Netham45.org, where the (unused) Starcraft private server is?

Also nice Juju :D

The only worry I have about Minecraft lately is that its popularity in the TI community is so high that it reminds me the TI community WoW craze of 2005. I hope it is not too addicting because in 2005, WoW had a huge impact on TI community activity, with several ASM/BASIC programmers moving on from calc programming to the realm of Warcraft...
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Juju on December 06, 2010, 02:33:43 pm
Maybe we could see Minecraft TI programs so people could easily calculate things while playing Minecraft? Or maybe a Minecraft clone for TI calculators, who knows?

Also don't do like some people which I won't name and play 12 hours straight.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 06, 2010, 03:25:23 pm
Minecraft for TI calcs, even if no multiplayer, would be cool. ;D

But yeah I hope not too many people migrate from TI stuff to spend all their time on minecraft. It would kinda suck x.x
Title: Re: Minecraft

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 06, 2010, 04:56:53 pm
I notice a lot of community people play, but I don't know if they all play at the same place. It would really be great if all Omni (and Cemetech) members played on the same server so it would be more fun. Unless some ppl want to play with other friends
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Ti-newb on December 07, 2010, 01:12:13 pm
lol. im pretty sure some guy has made a computer on Minecraft that can actually run programs. idk =) we can try LOL. Redstone = lots of potential!! and plus.. we have basically the whole entire world to build a circuit.. =)

So instead of minecraft on TI calcs.. TI CALCS IN MINECRAFT =OOOOO

We could have a creative server.

lol dont worry omni. its more of like... a game when ur bored type of game.. not like im gonna do it over my homework type of game.. =)

and will.. really? i didnt know that =O, i thought u could use the whole entire world if u wanted.. which is basically infinite.

I love this game!!!! It has like, absorbed my life.  I am now dedicated to all things mc. :P Not really, but I do like it a lot, and have made a nifty smp server mod call NomCraft and host a server @ withg.us.to, although its been down a lot the last week, as the more recent updates have been breaking things w/the server mod x.x

Lol, the only thing running on my 1.25GB RAM computer (maelstrom.julosoft.net) in my room is Minecraft Server and the minimum required to run an usable Linux. And a httpd/mysqld for Minecraft stats. And it runs really well.

By the way someone should make a TI-83 Plus in Minecraft. :P

About that RAM, I used up all mine last night when we had me, juju, genolo and a friend of mine on my server. Other than a few glitches all went well and I have a pumpkin house now. Once i upgrade the server to have more than 748mb ram ill post about it, but right now i cant have it too overloaded cause I need it to be up for me to play on lol. Ive only had MC for a few days and ive been playing it *alot*. Its really fun to be able to make all this stuff, minus the falling in lava part and losing all my stuff.
here's a pic of the map http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4490/map2normalday.png (http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4490/map2normalday.png)
And heres a vid of the server, although not up to date and a little laggy

Missing the pumpkin house.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 19, 2010, 12:38:22 pm
Yeah it might be best to upgrade RAM. How much does Minecraft needs?

On a side note I messed around for a bit on Juju's server the other night. We really should eventually gather on the same server maybe so we can all play together.

And yeah I tend to hate when I accidentally die due to a bug (getting stuck in blocks, for example) and losing everything, not to mention having to walk all the way til where I was. I also sometimes get lost on the map X.x

On Juju's server there's an Omnimaga logo somewhere. ;D I started digging nearby to get rid of the water, for some reasons. :P
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: rcfreak0 on December 19, 2010, 12:47:33 pm
Well the server uses alot of RAM sometime depending, I need about 1gig but i dont have it yet for that box. Will have it tho soon. I agree that we should get a server to all play on, cause i dont think my tubes could handle that many people on at once, and i dont want my map getting all haxxored, although if we spread out once i upgrade it it would be ok so no one asplodes my castles. ( asplode my castle and die :P ) Also i gotta check juju's server so i can see the logo. Thanks for the reminder :)
Title: Re: Minecraft

I think it needs at least 1GB to minimally run, anything below isn't a really good idea... At least 2GB shouldn't be a problem, I think. Also it's a good idea to have a swap partition (pagefile.sys under Windows) in case Minecraft takes up your entire RAM and locks up your computer.

Most of the time, when you die, all your stuff are dropped around so if you return to the place where you died you're usually able to retrieve all your stuff. Getting there is sometimes long, so warps or getting transported by the admin helps. A map can help too, here's mine: Map of my world (http://maelstrom.julosoft.net/map/) (note: the player markers doesn't actually work...)

Also, good idea to gather everyone on the same server at the same time. Mine can handle easily 5-6 people, haven't tested for more...

Also, screenshot. :P Took easily 1 hour to build this in obsidian, that thing takes 15 seconds to remove if I make a mistake.

(Oh lol, ninja'd...)

Lol thats sweet juju! and yeah, under 1gb= fail lol. Im running ubuntu, and i have swap but im upgrading to a new system next week with 2gb ram for MC so it should be plenty then. I still gotta come play some, it sucks for some reason MC lags pretty bad on my laptop :/

Not all the time. I remember dying and my stuff was all gone. Also that Omni logo is epic ;D

One thing I wonder is how you guys build huge floating platforms? Because to me it seems like you have to make towers of like 30-40 blocks one by one then build on top of them, the remove the stuff below, but I can't seem to understand how you do it in large scale. Also how do you get torches, woodplates, money and that stuff?

Well you make a tower, build the floor by placing blocks besides (and not on top) the already existing blocks. For the torches, woodplates and the such, you have to craft (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Crafting) them. For money, it's a /money command you have to type in the chat.

Lol thanks, that took a while to create. LOTS of blocks, too. Also the entire area where is located that building and a lot of the stuff besides used to be the sea. I just filled those parts with blocks to drain the water out, then dug holes in there.

cool!

I play minecraft too but were is Juju's server? or do I need the paid version of the game to get in there? As for the free version I once build a sort of shrine. Here it is.

edit: I did not make this alone, at first I builded what you see in pic3 (or MC_Hgue2) on top of the remains of a pretty huge building. It was badly grieved so I did not repair it. Not at first. Then this British dude came to help me and we repaired the fundaments of the building + he added alot of interior elements, extended the roof etc. So I did the top part and we repaired the light-brown colored building together. He added all the peripherals you can find the free server here: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp?server=6cca0c93f290659f05168f6250b394f7. from there go to guest1. My building is in the far corner of the map.

Post by: matthias1992 on December 20, 2010, 05:38:26 pm
ok maybe the other pics did not really show the sheer size of this thing. So here is another one. I guess the entire building is about 70x40x35 blocks which ends up in 98000 blocks. These are just wild guesses, I did not want to count them. It's a bit boring.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 21, 2010, 02:08:30 pm
Wow that's kinda cool with all that stuff around!

And yeah if we make an alpha/beta server, if we make it more of a sandbox, we should allow infinite health. It would be nice also if digging speed could be increased. :P

Note, I got the beta and when I go on Juju server the FPS has dropped drammatically (about 10 fps instead of like 1000) and I get disconnected from time to time due to Java errors ???.

192.168.1.5? That's a private IP, non routable through the Internet.

Try giving the IP shown on http://whatsmyip.org/ or something like that. You may have to mess in your router's configuration.

Indeed. I personally get bored after a while, because normally I'm more into Starcraft/Final Fantasy type of games, but I love to create stuff, so that gets me hooked to Minecraft during hours sometimes.

@Binder News It might help to have the port typed in, even if it's the default one it can help with port tunneling. Default is 25565

I wish I could do that, willrandship, that's really awesome.

BTW, a good way of fixing the problem with the pigs is to use barbed wire fencing.

Well, actually on an improved version I'm working on, it's underground, so no pigs can get in :)

Most of the pigs got there before I replaced the bottom with brick :P and yes, I used an editor :P
Title: Re: Minecraft

Well, that's basically what the free version is :P an editor for alpha/beta

Well, if you import it into the survival mode using something like MCedit which happens to be free
Title: Re: Minecraft

Well, that's basically what the free version is :P an editor for alpha/beta

Well, if you import it into the survival mode using something like MCedit which happens to be free

Quick explanation then, I guess :P

The free version gives you infinite amounts of all the blocks, so you don't have to mine to get your stuff, making it a semi-limited editor. Beta is the current non-free version of minecraft, it was called alpha before december.

Mcedit is a Minecraft map editor that can, among other things, import the files from classic levels into alpha and beta level maps (which are infinite in size, unlike classic)

And NP ;)

You don't need no stinking keyboard. the on screen one works just fine :P you using windows, mac or linux? Windows has one that you can access by pressing the windows button+U, but I don't know how you'd get to without a keyboard (fail!) Eh, the server doesn't need to be RAM heavy so much as cpu heavy, especially if you limit the map size (adminium walls are good for this. :P)

Do you happen to have their IPs?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Eeems on January 22, 2011, 11:49:06 pm
Erm, well it's low on both CPU and RAM (216MB (I think) RAM, Pentium II CPU). But yeah, for local games it would be great, or maybe a few others, only if it was hard wired though.

No...sorry.

Yeah I heard that even at 2 MB RAM sometimes it's still not enough and the server can even crash. X.x

Also I wonder how much CPU power and RAM is required for when someone blows up 10000 TNTs O.O . On my Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM, Minecraft still froze when someone blew up 1000 TNTs.

Title: Re: Minecraft

When blowing up >9000 TNT, it crashes every client looking at the explosion, of course, but the server have to generate the big hole resulting from the explosion, which could crash the server when having low RAM.

My server have 1.25 GB RAM, with about 98% of it dedicated to Minecraft, which is pretty much the only thing running on it, so it runs kinda well on my machine without problems, resisted to lots of explosions and whatsnot.

Also feel free to ask me what's my IP in PM or on IRC. ^_^

I've had it happen as well (as probably have most people who've ever played SMP).

Though it's really fun when a chunk is unloaded over a minecart track. Since minecarts run on the server and not on the client (and since the chunk bug is a client problem)... you fly through the chunk riding the minecart.

What's SMP?

"Survival Multi Player"

For some reason, the main Minecraft game mode (i.e. the only one playable in Beta) is called "Survival": probably to distinguish it from the "Creative" mode found in Classic (where you cannot die). Hence, SSP is Survival Single Player and SMP is Survival Multi Player.

In addition to Creative, another game mode ("Adventure") is rumored.

Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Builderboy on January 27, 2011, 01:19:56 am
I have been playing minecraft for some time now, and I already have a host of fun things i have wrought :D

1) Automatic double doors that lead into my main base.  They open when you get near and stay open until you go through!  And there is also a switch which locks them closed so that mobs can't get in.

2) A giant cavern where I have mobs spawning.  I placed a trap in there that harvests them and then sends their loot into my base.  An alarm alerts me if there is any loot to be collected, as well as a flashing light to alert me.

3) An automatic railway station that can take me too and from my two bases.  It always has a cart at both stations, so you can leave base 1 on foot, go to base 2, take the cart all the way to base 1, and repeat the processes forever :D It also automatically detects when you get into the cart, and sends you on your way.  When you arrive, it waits for you to get out of your cart and then takes the cart and brings it to the departing area of the station.

4) Large treehouse I built using saplings and bone meal, its really huge and can be seen for a long ways around!  Its a great way to find my way back to my base if I ever get lost :]

5) A walled courtyard where I can be outside during the night without fear of monsters spawning or getting in.  It contains my farm, which is on the edge of an ocean for irrigation, and trees for wood harvesting.

6) A skylight in my underground base so I can tell what time it is without going up (kind of rendered useless now that I crafted myself a watch XD)

My server used to have advanced redstone, integrated circuits and even wireless recievers, it was so fun. Right now, the support for the current version of the server is broken. :(

How would wireless receivers work?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Juju on January 27, 2011, 01:55:07 am
Well, it's an integrated circuit made of a block, redstone, switches and a signpost with a name on it. The transmitter and the reciever should have the same name.

Redstone is my friend :D

Now i just need to do this:

Wow this is so awesome.

My server used to have advanced redstone, integrated circuits and even wireless recievers, it was so fun. Right now, the support for the current version of the server is broken. :(

Description:
So, I just got Minecraft and started single player. This is the final result before I decided to go off and start another world. Hopefully dying less this time. xP

Anyway, enjoy the sheer noobiness of my humble shelter... thing.

Um... description says it all.
Btw, I hate you Geekboy. I have not been able to stop playing this damn game. Dx
Oh, the Fraps cut off the right side of my screen but I didn't want to re-record with Camtasia so... yeah. That side of the screen isn't important anyway.

Found my first dungeon too:
I deleted this world not long after though. I had died after spending all of the first day running north. xD

In case any of you have wondered where I've been on IRC or around the forums in the last few days, I have one word for you.

Minecraft.

Although, more recently I've been playing on my own little home server (like 3 people max without lag xD) and have started mod making.
My current project is a skill system that I picked up from someone else and got running on current Bukkit servers. Though, I plan to spread into a full, unique RPG system that I'll host later on a VPS.

Oh, and I just got a job, but that's less important. ;P

So while i got bored today i rendered a 2 day old map save of my servers map.

The first link is 90mb picture:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9CBCVSQB (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9CBCVSQB)

This one is only 20mb:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FUX7VQ2H (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FUX7VQ2H)

I cant make a smaller render as the map has gotten a bit to big now.

I use cartograph.

It works for me most of the time, just sometimes slow on big map.

Is it me or does Minecraft server really suck extremly bad? It seems like the author might not have picked the right kind of server and connection for such game. Plus I think some games use like 10 servers sometimes, anyway.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on February 23, 2011, 09:04:55 pm
Note, it is discouraged on Omni to come in topics about a specific game or software to brag about another software that will be better than the other. The last time this happened on IRC people got mad at each others.

You should probably keep this for another topic and post more info about the game as well as gameplay/screenshots to convince people.

Post by: DJ Omnimaga on February 23, 2011, 09:09:03 pm
Ah ok, but yeah as I said it would be good to show some screenshots. I myself would like something like Minecraft, but even more oriented towards building stuff without having to worry about dying, then maybe have a mode where you can play random games in the map or something. Also, while minecraft graphics are cool old-skool'ness stuff, it would be nice to see a game with better one or with more old-skool ones, like NES style :P

The game is just too popular. Notch keeps on gettin better servers, and a while later, they too are overloaded.

Also, you can install Texture packs in minecraft to make it look more old skool or modern.

Thought i should also post this here about my server:
Nether now works on my server! Sometimes a little buggy and slow, but it works for the most part. Currently i suggest "use at your own risk" as you need to make a portal to get back out, just like in SP ( i think dont hold me to that). So getting stuck can easily be achieved like i did just now. But it works, so I'm happy, so for those who play on my server, enjoy, and use at your own risk as always, since it is a plugin and not an official port (yet).

Then again, i dont think many people from omni play on mine 'cept Eeems sometimes... Oh well always nice to update everyone :)

Nice rollercoaster guys. As for Fraps it usually gives me good speed, although you need to set it up properly for some games since Fraps otherwise works with only a few select softwares. I think the option is aero desktop or something.

Also I was surprised someone would like my New Beginning song considering it's the 2nd song I ever made (2002) and it almost only used pre-made loops.

As for MC for calc, worlds would need to be as small as possible and that would certainly be a lot of data to send every second. X.x

Ah ok. Well I'm glad that you like it. :D

On a side note for video size issues, if you use Fraps, afterward you can just open your video in VirtualDub and in the filters you can use null transform and use the Cropping function to remove the black borders. Then save with no compression and use something else for it. Note that the files saved are massive, though, but VirtualDub is just too slow at compressing.

I forgot about virtualdub, i used movie maker for most of mine just for the sake of time. I'll have to try virtual dub, probably a lot better than movie maker haha.

Yeah although I don't like how slow it is at compressing stuff, plus it won't open a lot of formats. What I usually do is use Vdub for some editing and to convert avi to gifs or vice-versa, but I use another video converter for compression.

So... I was exploring a cavern and...

Fortunately, the Fire Ogre ended up hitting the two werewolves and an epic battle ensued. =D
(http://img.removedfromgame.com/imgs/ohfuck2.png)

The Fire Ogre won and then I got sniped by a skeleton.

For those interested in what you see above:
I managed making a working pack with Mo Creatures and Zan's Minimap. Seriously changed the game and I haven't had more fun or been more frustrated.

The mods are here (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=86929) (Mo Creatures) and here (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=97332&p=1456935#ZansMini) (Minimap) but if you have trouble installing it or just want the easy way to get both with no work, PM me. Oh, and don't worry about being incompatible with multiplayer. The game simply ignores the Mo Creatures mod on servers that don't have the SMP version installed on it and the Minimap still works perfectly. Though, note that if you use a texture pack, you'll have to do some work to actually show any of the new creatures or you have to switch back to the Default texture pack.

On that note, I have the texture pack that I use hosted on RFG for anyone to use. It works with or without Mo Creatures. Try it out and let me know if you like it.
http://removedfromgame.com/NyaaRPG2.zip (Generated by PainterlyPack, edited by me)
For those that don't know how to install texture packs, just save the zip file (don't unzip it) into your minecraft's texture pack folder. Easiest way to open it is to start Minecraft, go to 'Mods and Textures packs' and click 'Open texture pack folder'. That's where the .zip needs to be placed. Then you can change from default at the 'Mods and texture packs' screen and change back at any time.

Final note, the mods will be uninstalled and most likely not work when 1.4 comes out sometime this week but I'll update you guys on when they're fully compatible again. Oh, and switch back to the default texture pack when the 1.4 update happens too until I get an updated version with the new official mob and other items in it.

For those who want a customizable server:
I also made a premade Bukkit server that you can just unzip and run. The .bat files are only for windows. I don't know enough about mac or Linux to make the files for them but I can try to figure it out if you need it. Important though... READ THE README.txt. For one, port forwarding is most likely needed (I needed it) and it'll help you understand how to set up your server how YOU want it.
http://removedfromgame.com/Premade%20Bukkit%20Server.zip
Let me know if you have any further questions.

For those who don't know about v1.4:
This update is slated to come out this week. It will contain some bug fixes like finally updating your spawn point properly when sleeping in a bed.
The main new features are a new mob and stats/achievements system. Minecraft will track (currently) 662 stats that can be found on your profile on Minecraft.net and will add all sorts of achievements for you to gain. The achievements are nothing but bragging rights and aren't going to be something like 'kill 100 creepers' but will be more like 'ride a pig off a cliff'.

The new mob is the wolf. This is the first (official) mob that you can tame. You use bones on a wild wolf to get it to start following you around. It will attack things that you attack, has health, and responds to commands and items. There's a preview movie here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPvB6aR4E7E&feature=related).

As stated earlier, I'll keep you updated. =)

I don't understand everything, but you find a fire ogre in v1.4 ? (you got already it ?) O.O
Or is this a rarely mob in 1.3 ? (with mod or not ?)
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: {AP} on March 29, 2011, 02:30:33 pm
It's from the Mo Creatures (http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?t=86929) mod. This mod adds in several new creatures but that cavern with a fire ogre, 2 werewolves, 5 zombies, 3-4 creepers, and a skeleton was too cool so I had to take a picture and share it. =)
(Later, I went to the cavern again and found a werewolf and a shark. I had the shark kill the werewolf for me then I killed the shark. xD)

v1.4 isn't out yet and the only new mob will be wolves that you can train. However, 1.4 will be coming out sometime this week according to Notch and Jeb.

Quote from: Notch
We're focusing on doing an update today, but stats and achievements are getting pushed back to the next update because they don't work.

Well, looks like 1.4 is coming today. =)
(Kinda sad about the stats/achievements not coming now though.)

UPDATE!

I know that, but I'm looking for a specific model, as with a lot of them, people say the color of the lenses are off. I'm also not sure if minecraft uses red-cyan or red-blue.
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: chattahippie on July 26, 2011, 12:24:03 pm
I believe it is red/cyan.  I use a pair from a Lego Atlantis Lego set, and they work fine.  But if you really want to get the perfect pair, just use markers and color bits of plastic wrap, then make those into custom glasses.  Just change the shades of blue/red until they work perfectly

Necropost! I'm posting here so the Omnimine topic can stay a little more on topic, and I didn't see the need to start a whole new topic.

I just finished building a small city fort, and I'm very proud of it. It's probably the most work I've put into a build, and while I did use Creative mode, I'm glad to say I did it by hand, no MCEdit or WorldEdit. I'm probably going to touch it up and import it into a non-flatgrass world before posting it, though.

What do you guys think? It's my first serious Minecraft build, so I'm fairly happy with it, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

I think I got addicted to Terraria first, really badly I was playing it soooo much then when I played Minecraft I got mildly addicted, as I had got some of the initial thrill already from Terraria. I had to stop since it was also taking up a lot of my time. The furthest I got was finding some Gold in an Abandoned Mine Shaft that I hadn't finished exploring. Hadn't died in lava yet, but it does seem to be much scarier generally in Minecraft than Terraria (due to 3D first person perspective).

IMO the coolest thing about Indev is the limited map. Other than that, pretty much everything upstream is an improvement in my mind.

Extra height + Flatland generation makes everything bigger :P

I wish notch would give us vertical redstone...

Ooh, crazy mod idea: Wireworld behavior for redstone!

Personally, I'd rather have a block that sends redstone signals between servers. That shouldn't be too difficult with sockets and Java.

I have a mod for wireless redstone. You can change the frequency of the redstone in Hz. Also, I have an Arrows mod, which let's you have tnt, lightning, egg, ice, and fire arrows. The too many items mod is awesome, it gives you every block in minecraft, letting you convert saves from survival to creative, and letting you make awesome creations in survival mode.

I don't see why any one would restrict the others....wireworld-style, vertical, wirelessly connectible redstone that can reach across servers? :P

By the way, wireworld redstone would eliminate the length problem and make ticks a lot faster.

And I reopened my server on mc.julosoft.net. I restarted everything from scratch (don't worry I still have backups of the last incarnation). For security measures you have to sign up and post in the introduction thread on my forum at http://forum.julosoft.net/ to get whitelisted (make sure to read the FAQ), feel free to suggest plugins and other stuff on the Minecraft sub-forum. Well, that's pretty simple, you find some old computer with a decent amount of RAM, you install some server distro of Linux on it (not Windows because the core eats up lots of RAM), disable everything but the core, networking and SSH so you get the maximum of RAM free and there we go. The first incarnation of mc.julosoft.net was hosted at home with an old Pentium IV I got for $15 before I moved it to a friend's server.

Optifine and Rei's minimap, along with the Water Shader and GLSL mods if your graphics card can handle them. That's the true Minecraft experience.

Hey Juju, how did you set up your server? You told me earlier that you're using craftbukkit, and that's what I'm trying to use. I have all the files in home/spyro543/bukkit and I followed the directions on the website. I type in craftbukkit.sh, and I get "command not found". Actually, there's some small companies who offers unlimited internet, but unfortunately, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission won't allow this anymore, since almost all smaller ISPs uses the lines of the bigger ones, which won't allow any unlimited stuff.

Has anyone had the trouble with updating to 1.2.3/4?  When I update my 1.1 world, some of the things I've built are reverted back to some older stage.  For example: I've converted all the cobblestone blocks in a village I'm in to stone bricks, but when I update my game, Anvil turns all the buildings back to cobblestone.  If I convert my world back to 1.1, all the blocks go back to stone blocks!  Its so weird.
I don't think this was a problem with the 1.2 pre-releases, but I can't remember, I didn't test them out too much.

If anyone has some ideas, that'd be nice. :)  Thanks!

I haven't tried yet, since right now it seems I can't connect to the server from my Minecraft 1.1 client. I hope for those like you with worlds that he didn't break compatibility or something, else this would suck. :(

Also welcome to the Omnimaga forums. :)

Post by: ShortsOnFire79 on March 25, 2012, 12:48:04 pm
Thanks. :)  I needed the customary first post to edit my profile and such.  Now I'm off to introductions. :)

My 1.1 world is weird, because some of the things I've built still exist, but others vanish or revert to old stages.  This also affects the Nether.
Also, what are image limitations (http://i.imgur.com/dqQiC.jpg) for this forum?
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 25, 2012, 12:53:00 pm
You can post images as you wish, providing they are not for example 3200x2400 camera pics or extremely large files, with the [img ] tags. As for your signature make sure it's not too big (example, juju signature on the other page might be a tad too big in height IMHO). The limitations on 0-post users is mainly for spam protection though (since we often have bots advertising stuff)
Title: Re: Minecraft
Post by: Deep Toaster on March 25, 2012, 12:53:34 pm
If the image is big, you can put them in a [spoiler] or do [img width=##] to scale it down. Or you could link to them, as you did there :)

So if epic can record, that would be great, otherwise I can. Is 8 alright for everyone? It's a 2 person map, but I think having more people would make it more fun, and I think 3 would be manageable. (Not like when we had 6 people running to separate corners of the world all at the same time...)

If you're going to be available and have some free time, please hop on both the Minecraft and Mumble servers to ensure everything works for you guys. If you need the info for either server again, let me know.

Indeed, I do too. It's just movement seems a little... slow to me. It's not slow in rendering or anything, just maybe because it's on a much bigger screen. Jumping also seems off, but it's not lol.

If you guys are still going to do this recording thing, I can record on "Short" render distance with no lag at all.

Well, recording is done and we got 40 minutes of great footage!

Only one small problem.

Finale forgot to record the mumble conversation. :banghead:
Also, wrong topic :P

I just found a nifty mod that we might wanna use: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/217587-125-mod-mumblelink-ml-smp-mumble-directional-voip/ (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/217587-125-mod-mumblelink-ml-smp-mumble-directional-voip/)

It gives Minecraft support for positional audio through Mumble.

D:

You have to use ESDF or SZXC now instead of WASD. W is such an important key of the keyboard...
