Title: CELINE DION! (And other random remixes)
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 12, 2012, 11:00:11 pm
Ok, so I did not even remember I made that song before O.O

It's a short eurodance remix of A New Day has come, using files from The Summer Trance for most of  the beat and extra melodies. Surpringsly it did not come out as bad as my 2009 Celine Dion remix though, although the sound quality is terrible XD. At least this one isn't out of sync at times.

Basically I was digging through my old tape recordings other than the Omnidance 1 and 2 album and the scrapped Omnidance 3 and found some other remixes I made back in 2003. Besides that Celine Dion one above I have the following:

Mario Pelchat - Voyager Sans Toi - Eurodance remix
http://djomni.57o9.org/mario%20pelchat%20-%20voyager%20dj%20omnimaga%20remix%202003.mp3

Roxette - Spending my Time - Happy Hardcore remix
http://djomni.57o9.org/Roxette%20-%20Spending%20my%20Time%20(DJ%20Omnimaga%20Remix).mp3

As you will notice with the last two, the quality is very questionable as they often get out of sync. The reason why is that they were recorded using no digital equipment. All I had was a microphone, the TV (MTVMG) and a cassette recording of the original songs playing besides each others. Also, not only MTVMG BPM setting doesn't support decimals, but tapes often have warping causing them to go slightly faster and slower as they play.

I feel my Marie Denise Pelletier remix (of her song Tous les cris les S.O.S) was much better in terms of staying in sync

However I never posted the first 3 before and I thought that I would share them with you since I've been uploading a lot of previously unreleased tracks before.

Note that those files might not stay online forever so if you somehow happen to like any of them (I doubt it lol) you should probably download them ASAP.

P.S.: In 2002 I actually made a first attempt at such remix/mashup with Phil Collins - Take Me Home, long before making the songs above. However it was a mega disaster, because I never could get close to overcome the syncing issues. During the second half of the song, the original song actually gradually slowed down for some reasons, so keeping an even BPM was impossible.

Thanks for those remixes. It's nice to see some different songs added to the growing collection of DJ_O's music - I'm losing track of them!

Also noticed on http://djomni.57o9.org/oldboardmergedsmf/ the dates for posts are out by quite a bit. Around 115 years O.O

Thanks, and Jonius7 that was a test board for when I made the Omnimaga v5 Retro theme. I also checked how SMF managed time zones and stuff because at the time Omni had messed up time zones. Once that was finished I just messed around for fun and set the test board offset to +9999 :P

Oh I can use Juju's list of songs from radio.omnimaga.org to fill up the Discography a bit. There are also some demo songs on djomni.57o9.org.

Note that that list might not be as accurate, though. Certain songs that were re-released no longer have the original album titles. As for the demos on 57o9, all of them were released as bonus tracks on my paid albums except the DJ Tiesto - Element of Life power metal intro. http://djomni.57o9.org/elements_of_life_demo_cover.mp3

Yeah I thought both would fit kinda well for that experiment. Of course The Summer Trance was modified a bit though. Also I wouldn't have been able to include the entire song since that one was made by importing the chorus directly in Music 2000 software and that's about what the Playstation could hold as sound memory. My Wheel of Fortune remix (Ace of Base) was done the same way as well.

The other ones were made by either playing both songs simultaneously or with Audacity, though. The former is very hard, by the way, lol, and impossible unless you use a cassette (since you can slightly alter the BPM when you want by pressing hard on the Play button to slow the tape down) or vinyl turntables.

I know there's certain cassette players you can actually change the motor speed with a knob so you can change the BPM, that or you can modify a cassette player by adding a potentiometer (a knob) somewhere in the circuit, but it requires basic electronics knowledge, a screwdriver, a soldering iron and a potentiometer. Nowadays you can easily do the same thing with Audacity anyway.

I didn't mention before. This probably wasn't one of your better mashups. Probably because I've heard the actual song, the vocal pitch has been turned up a lot yes I can deal with that. But only the first half of the chorus was repeated again and again. It'd be nice to have more/most of the chorus (I like the part that sings "Let the rain come down and wash away my tears...", melodically it sounds nice), in the mashup.  But overall not too bad of an effort, just I'd would have liked a bit of variety.

EDIT: What am I doing commenting on something you did 9 years ago? ;D

Ah ok, must've been pretty tricky.

Yeah MTVMG can only fit about 8 seconds of WAV audio, hence why the chorus kept repeating over and over. :P I think the Playstation 1 has about 2 MB of RAM.

Also I forgot that in late 2009 I was working on an Eurobeat remix of Ron Griffith - Desire (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gbfd1hiV8g) O.O. I attached what I had below before cancelling it.

It's obviously not going on my new album since it's a remix.

And now that scrapped Final Fantasy Mystic Quest Boss theme cover (which is only a few seconds long). It dates back in late 2006 or early 2007 I think (it was gonna use riffs from my FFVI Terra theme trance remix)
