{AP} joins Omnimaga Staff ranks
« on: November 02, 2008, 07:36:19 pm »
I'M pleased to announce our member {AP} has joined Omnimaga Staff. He is working on a semi-graphical xLIB RPG for the TI-83 Plus series of calculators called Nyaar. The game currently uses pure BASIC but is meant to be converted in xLIB at one point. He is also doing electronic dance music.

Please welcome {AP} to our staff!

Thanks much, Omnimaga! =D

I'm also working on a secret 2D MMORPG (for the computer obviously)
More information on that later though. ^_^

(EDIT: Oh... and Nyaar will be fully graphical later. ;P
Battle system, dungeons, etc.
I'm just worried about space at this point. O.o)

Well, there's certain criteria.
(DJ Omnimaga can explain that himself, if he chooses to)

I'll admit, I had a bit of an advantage by knowing him for awhile.
Though, meeting all the criteria and being skilled in all the things that Omnimaga (the site itself) is about helped a lot too.

Thanks!

What I really need... is some people (or place with people) to kinda just talk about ideas for the game now.
My main concern is space really... but also, ideas aren't flowing very well through myself alone.

Rawr... there is a topic in a sub-forum to be made later.

Also, on the music thing... thanks even more!
I have else confidence in my music abilities so hearing good things means a lot. =D

@ZagorBNK Yeah there's some criteria in facts. The main ones would be that you need to be active (and not suddently vanish for a month or two then only come back for two days then leave again all the time outside may exam periods and trips to other countries in july), be nice to other staff and members and be doing one of the following:

-TI calculator programming (can be any language and any platform) and we don't do math/physic programs (since Omnimaga has always been oriented toward game production)
-Windows game programming or making (it can be coding or RPG Maker/GameMaker/TGF). Non-game softwares intended for game making are fine too.
-Music making: we don't do cover/remixes of other people songs unless it's either a song from an Omnimaga staff or a song from a video game. Files are saved in 128k bitrate in the Omnimaga archives to save diskspace as much as possible. mp3s or MIDI files are accepted

The criterias having been said (they're pretty much similar to the old board ones), you need to have been around for quite a while so we know you better and know who we are really hiring. We had big luck when we hired Tenniskid and Halifax, we hired them before they even register an account on this website, but we also got stuff like a staff member vanishing the day he got hired and on many Invisionfree forums I visited I often heard horror stories about members signing up and applying for a staff position then deleting all posts so this is why we require people to have been around for a while before they can be staff now. AP has been around for quite a while, as he was an active member on the old Omnimaga board and still is active today

We also need to see what you come up with (programming wise or music wise). Not necessarly an entire game or demo but project plan and screenies can do. IIRC you were making a RPG for the 83+. Language doesn't matter if the games you're gonna make are written in BASIC and not super incredibly long (like 50 hours of gameplay) because I may end up translating it in the end if I am motivated enough lol (I did it with lost Legends but the project never came out though :()

@AP actually for space xLIB allow you to copy archived programs directly into RAM (then delete the copies when no longer needed), which allow you to run larger games. Metroid II is an example of game using this process

Yeah, but I'm actually getting worried about ARCHIVE space too... O.o
I'm not sure I want it to where people can ONLY have my game on their calculator at one time... though I'm having a hard time optimizing it enough. (actually, after following through with several optimizing tutorials, I don't think it can be any more... which mean that already, this thing is huge...)

Argh, here... I'll PM you.
We can get this discussion in the proper place. =P

FOr archive I think it should be fine, since the calc has over 184 KB of archive. That's unless of course you plan to make something as huge as Pokémon Purple or some of my games, in which case then they would end up being only for the SE or the 84+ series. Of course you could always do like FFTOM or late Illusiat series and split the game in chapters. It's really up to you.

Haha, thanks guys!
I didn't think my membership would be much of a big deal at all... O.o

Though, it HAS been awhile since Omnimaga has added staff.

@Netham45 well you are mostly admin, IRC channel manager and managing the entire site/community/channel in general. Same for myself, altough I am more in charge of hiring staff and adding new sub forums since I don't know much about server stuff, but I would love to see lurking shades finished ^.^. Now we could play with Celtic III too because it runs Omnicalc sprite( function.

@AP: Actually on the old Invisionfree site when I restarted a programming group after Epic Programming Studios disbanded due to inactivity (I'm the only staff who ever released TI stuff there besides MLC 86 beta), there was always between 20 and 26 staff at once. After the site deletion when the temp board opened only a few staff remained and then the site eventually closed due to inactivity, but some people wanted to remain staff for when the site would be back one day, so we ended up with 8 staff members who were the same than the old site. The only new staff besides you is Calc84maniac

EDIT: I think that besides when we were building up the team in 2005, this was the last staff list ever on the old board

http://web.archive.org/web/20071021214142/omnimaga.org/index.php?showtopic=72

Not really the last since  Tama got demoted the same month but it should give you an idea. Retired staff only listed the staff that did something at all, either coding wise or helping/activity wise
