Title: 250000 posts since May 2005 & new yearly record for 2011
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 07, 2011, 12:16:13 am
Tonight Omnimaga forums have reached 250K messages if we count the 56000+ messages we had on Invisionfree. If we only include the messages from this SMF forum, Omnimaga is heading towards 200000!

Although activity has dropped since last Fall, September 2011 still managed to be the second most active September month in Omnimaga history, with close to 8000 messages, down from 9325 last year but far above September 2007's 2025 messages. In addition to that, because of the high activity last Winter, Spring and a still quite high level of it right now, 2011 marks a new record of new messages in one year, breaking last year's record of 87232 with still a few months to go. Last year shattered the old 2006 record of 30132 posts in a year.

More statistics (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=stats)

After the Ndless craze in Early 2010 which lasted until OS 3.0.1 release, the TI-Nspire scene kind of stagnated afterward, despite the arrival of Lua, since a lot of Nspire users were Ndless users or programmers, and since Ndless and TI-Nspire news was our second biggest source of traffic after the TI-83+ series, this had a big impact on Omnimaga forum life in overall. However, since the past few months, there have been an increasingly higher focus on calculator development and programming discussion, which kinda balances things out in some ways. We hope that in the future the site (and the rest of the TI and Casio community) maintains such level of activity and releases.

Happy 250,000th post Omnimaga!

2011 has been the most active year ever and it isn't even over :)

I hope future advancements continue to drive user activity here ever higher.

Lolk :P

Also the good news is that even if September 2011 is less active than 2010, if we remove all posts I've made each month, September 2011 actually had more activity, so this means the userbase still grew up. :D

wow.  Activity goes down a lot without DJ.  :P

Is that just scary or is that scary?

Well I guess it's positive that the total without my posts is higher than when I was more active, although my lower activity did have an impact for sure.

THis is far less bad than in 2007, though. In 2007, with me around we averaged at 2000 posts a month, but when I was missing, we averaged at 600.

Also Yunhua98 what ever happened to the Aug/Sept CGPN (which was supposed to include TI-Nspire/Prizm contest results from the news as well)? O.O

Also I just noticed yesterday we had our first 400+ post day since last June 28th. At least that's good considering OmnomIRC is down and that a lot of people used OmnomIRC to be notified of new posts.

Since it's October, though, I'm betting a lot of the new posts will be necroposts O.O (like last year)

On a more on-topic note we're slowly approaching 300K.

Things have slowed down a bit overall in the past few months.

Indeed D:

My guess is that we're probably returning around the late 2009 levels in late 2012 or early 2013, but it will be hard to get below that with that many users logged in all the time. They would pretty much all have to start lurking without ever posting to get lower. The good thing, however, is that the spam section:whole board activity ratio has got much lower, thanks in part to upping the postcount requirement for it, and the overall amount of active projects hasn't gotten much lower.

Which is good, I guess overall streamlining of good quality posts. And also partly due to less volumes of posts from yourself DJ_O. Back in 2010, that was impressive.

Yeah that too. I had around 20-25% of every month's activity and it went to 2-3% I think for a while. I guess in some ways the total post rate is slowly approaching back my current activity rate. Also we have to keep in mind half of the staff turned 18 around that summer, so a lot are much busier, have moved on or are on the verge of doing so.

I am also wondering what is the 1 post in Dec 2012 doing there:

Also on Juju's too I think.

EDIT: I think I have a suspicion why...
