Title: 3000 posts for 30th straight month
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 30, 2012, 05:14:10 pm
For the 30th month in a row, Omnimaga forums have reached over 3000 posts. The last time there were fewer than that in a month was in February 2010, shortly after Axe Parser was announced and right before Ndless arrival. Before then, a month over 3000 posts was only achieved 4 times here, back when the the forums were on Invisionfree.

The recent posting rates are lower than during the 2010-11 activity upsurge, but they were still achieved even with Omnimaga's attempt at keeping overall post quality higher by directing focus on constructive discussions (by making the randomness section read-only when overused, for example, or the recent revamping of the calculator projects section and new staff). After 8 months, 2012 is already the 3rd most active year in Omnimaga history.

Thanks to all the members and staff for the great support and we hope that new and old members continue to enjoy their stay and find what they need on Omnimaga!

Golly, you're right. What kind of evil machination you did this time, DJ_O?

Mwahahaha.

Actually I was bored and since my computer has cleartype turned ON, I just rotated the hue of the image 3 times then made a gif of it, so the anti-aliasing in the text is flashing in rainbow. :P

Also nice to see that this time August has more activity than July :P

Oh, and I kept seeing threads how posts were low... I guess it's okay then.

edit: What happened around the winter of 2010-2011? Ndless?

I think that was Ndless/nDoom

EDIT: and DJ could you please change the image to something with larger text and less shaking/cleartypeness :P

Well it's not OK in the sense that if activity gets too low then people will start visiting less often due to lack of new posts for hours, but it's good that we're still way above anything from the old boards. And yeah I think it was due to Ndless/nDoom/etc. Axe also gave the z80 community an huge kickstart too.

Although it's higher than 3000 posts, it looks pretty clear to me it's going rapidly downhill. Next month, in this curve, will probably be less than 3000 if a wonder doesn't happen. O.O

But probably it won't stay that way if we don't manage to save omnimaga

If Kerm completes his implementation of Lua on the Prizm I guess it'll be pretty interesting activity-wise.

Well it's a Cemetech product so obviously a lot of the users will first go there to ask for help (or probably be invited). On the other hand, since the Nspire has a lot of Lua programmers and programs here, that will prompt Lua programmers to visit both sites and hopefully we'll eventually see some of the programs come out on multiple platforms at once.

Also as much as the post rate is decreasing (aside from May and August), have you noticed the massive upsurge in new members coming for help lately? O.O

TI-Planet visits are restarting to raise again, finally, after the summer break, I guess this tendency can be visible here too ? :)

Well, when summer break ends, most calc sites see a spike in activity, especially sites where people usually come for help and/or calc games download sites. However on Omni this year the activity spike from school start rush was proportionally higher than this summer activity it seems.

I don't know about other sites, though. Cemetech doesn't seem to have that much of an increase for now it seems (probably due to being mostly programming-oriented, so activity will most likely come a bit later). Ticalc.org is hard to tell, because 5 of the 8 first months of 2012 had higher site traffic than their 2011 counterpart, while 3 other months were slightly lower.
