Title: 6th time in a row (not the game being lost, a monthly posting record)
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on July 08, 2010, 11:32:00 pm
And this happens for the 6th month in a row: the posting record of a month in particular (in the current case, July) is being broken. This streak started in February, where we (barely) broke Feb 2006 record, shattering March's, breaking April's by almost 1500, May's by 2000 and destroying June 2009 record by 4.5 times its amount. The July record was set in 2007 with 1571 messages in the entire month. This is exactly what we have in July 2010 so far, meaning that by posting this news article, the record will be broken.

Despite activity and traffic having dropped a lot compared to the 3rd and 4th week of June and becoming sporadic due to several people leaving for trips, camping and others coming back from similar places, the still large remaining amount of members and staff and project updates have contributed into keeping activity much higher than other summers so far. We even recorded days above 200 posts for the first time ever in July, while we normally rarely ever reach the 3 digits.

Regardless of how low activity goes at the end of the month, it looks like the total year 2006 activity record (30132) will be broken this month or very early in August (we are currently sitting at 29142 for 2010 so far).

Way to go, guys. Now what will happen when everyone will come back? The board will probably explode.

And dang, I lost the game...

Lol to think, the possibility of getting 500 errors in the *summer*? :O unheard of!  Congrats everybody!  Give yourself a pat on the back!

It depends what kind of popular website there is hosted on the same server besides Omnimaga. If porn websites are more popular during Summertime, we'll sure have lots of downtimes ;D

I doubt it's really Omni, though, because I recall getting 500 Internal Server Errors at close to 4 AM one night

8 days ... wow.

And if we're really going to break 2006, we really do have a chance of passing 40K this year (I think). ticalc.org should put up a news article for that ... Omni breaks all records! (Guinness, anyone?)

If we don't hit the 40k post mark, we could always start spamming the randomness forum on New Year's Eve (GMT) until we do.  ;)

btw, I lost the Game

I think we will pass 40K this year.  The summer will definately be slower, but I think activity will pick up significantly when the school year starts with new members asking questions about Ndless, Axe, and all of the other projects here!

Oh of course.  And the first thing any kid asks when the get their first TI is, "How do I play games."

DJ, can you make an auto-update counter on the front page, so we can see where we are overall?

You might want to ask Eeems, builderboy, or ztrumpet.  DJ moved down one staff position, so he can't make the changes you all are wanting.  Other than that, I agree with the idea

Nice, activity just keeps climbing. Such a feature would be cool, though it wouldn't be to much a bother if it doesn't get implemented (Just view the forum stats).
Yay us! :P

True. In the previous years, it was never as bad as UTI and CalcGames when school restarted, because of our speciality towards game dev rather than general help, which is why UTI managed to have higher activity than us in August and October 2009, but this year, Omni has really grown and I think a lot more people will come here to ask questions, especially Ndless. We need to make sure to remain as courteous as possible towards newbies, though, unless a person in particular does like Nerd83+ and re-ask the same question 10 times without listening. Everyone gotta start somewhere after all (including the learning of forum netiquette).

I do not understand what you mean by the front page counter. Do you mean the post count? Because you can simply refresh the page and it updates instantly :P.

And now, we'll definitely pass 40K, and maybe even 50K? This is AMAZING!
