Title: A new graphical SDK for Ndless

After the official Lua SDK in TI-Nspire 3.2 softwares, the new Ndless graphical SDK has just been released.

Kidding aside, this is cool. I'm glad new tools are coming out to make Ndless development more user-friendly.

(If you don't know, r632 ish is the only revision that does not have the SDK, and still has the nspire-gcc and friends work.)
Actually, could the SDK be separated from the ndless tree? It's a lot to download for a Linux user, like me! ;)

nspire_emu won't let me send files to it. What could be wrong? I was using an old rev of ndless (643 :P)

And when building the hello world example it throws me an error:

All resources made for nspire C programming are on hackspire.
There is also a tutorial for non-Windows users in order to setup the environnement and make a hello world program, but I guess it is getting a bit old now (it still work tho)

Hm, what's wrong with it exactly?
Basically, the bin/ directory disappeared, so I tried to find and use another copy of nspire-gcc within another directory. I only found tools/build/nspire-gcc, so I set my PATH to that, and it failed (for obvious reasons). Building ndless itself failed too!

Interesting enough, I downloaded the latest revision, and got Ndless-SDK/ndless/bin/nspire-gcc, which works! :D Whatever you did, something must've worked! (Though oddly enough, I *don't* see the bin directory on the web repo: https://www.unsads.com/scm/svn/nsptools/Ndless/trunk/Ndless-SDK/ndless/)

Re: the web repo, could you fix the problems with it? It would be great to see the history of a folder/file with a single click instead of going through SVN commands. ;) (For instance, https://www.unsads.com/repos-web/open/log/?base=nsptools&target=/Ndless/trunk/Ndless-SDK/ndless/3rd/nSDL/)

As for the repo separation... I'm foreseeing some difficulty now that I've seen the current structure of the repo. Maybe you could move the Windows only stuff to a branch or different repo, and have linked folder(s) to the ndless one? (Like this: https://github.com/Chronic-Dev/greenpois0n - though now looking at it, that's a Git repo, so I don't know if SVN has such a thing.) That way, you won't have to go through the hassle of maintaining two separate repos. :)

Again, great work! :D An IDE for Ndless development will definitely bring in some activity to the C development community here! ;) I do have a few minor suggestions though:
(I apologize in advance if you've already implemented any of these - I haven't tested the SDK on my Windows computer yet! :P)

I know this is a lot to ask for, so I'm certainly willing to help do any of these suggestions when I have time. :) (Just tell me which ones you are too lazy to do :P)

The recommended way is to download the full trunk and use Ndless-SDK/ndless/bin. I'll see if I can separate the tree, but it won't be easy, since the Windows SDK needs the files (and others) in its tree.

nRGBlib is the one which is limited, actually ;)
But it doesn't have the whole framework setup and teardown procedure, so it's somewhat easier to use.

Three notes:
* these non-standard 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit type definitions are ugly; standard types defined in the stdint.h header by C99, 13 years ago, are better ;) ;
* I think that you have CharWidth and CharHeight swapped;
* I'd define the array of pixels as a single-dimensional array, so as to ensure that the compiler uses flat storage, instead of an array of CharSetSize pointers triggering as many relocations, and CharSetSize arrays of CharHeight bytes.

Is it possible to use kArmTI as the emulator?  Iirc it's based off of nspire_emu..when I try to launch it windows says it's "stopped working" ???
Not sure if there would be any special instructions or anything..I copied a working setup and renamed "kArmTI_v**.exe" to "nspire_emu.exe" and it still starts up fine when launched directly.
The stuff's in C:/Ndless so no spaces in the folder name, not sure what else could be going wrong :/

And as already said, kArmTI is not linked to the lastest version of nspire_emu that includes GDB support because kArmTI is a fork of nspire_emu, not mergeable since not opensource and IIRC does not run under Mac or Linux ?

kArmTI is indeed a closed source fork of an outdated version of nspire_emu, and that's doubly bad.
The fact that it's based on an outdated version of nspire_emu is not a major problem in itself... it only becomes a problem because kArmTI is closed source.

No no no, I ment read 10 times the readme in order to manage to run nspire_emu inside the SDK. Remerber that the nspire_emu inside the SDK handle dil transfert directly from the SDK.

10 times is the number of tries I had to read the readme before nspire_emu actually worked :D

Is it possible to use kArmTI as the emulator?  Iirc it's based off of nspire_emu..when I try to launch it windows says it's "stopped working" ???
Not sure if there would be any special instructions or anything..I copied a working setup and renamed "kArmTI_v**.exe" to "nspire_emu.exe" and it still starts up fine when launched directly.

Does it work at least with the official version of nspire_emu provided?

10 times is the number of tries I had to read the readme before nspire_emu actually worked :D

I will gladly integrate any suggestion to improve the documentation, but you have to tell what was not clear to you.

No, not at all, only the resolution and commented-out a single code line (you may check the source). So is quite portable. Cheers.

For Clickpad & Touchpad OS, freely downloadable OS upgrades (containing a boot2) are enough to create a .img suitable for nspire_emu.
However, for the CX and CM, you need a boot1. Even if only a subset of boot1 would be technically required for setting up several ports and loading the boot2 (I mean - for instance, handling serial port communication wouldn't be a required feature for an alternative, emulator-only boot1), the same legal challenges as for distributing official boot1 would get in the way of distributing alternative boot1.
