Title: Admin validation enabled for new forum accounts
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on May 14, 2007, 07:21:00 am
Due to the increasing attempts at spambot registrations on the forums, I've decided to enable account validation by administrators. This means when you register on the forums, you cannot validate the account via e-mail anymore. It is either Rivereye, tifreak8x, Tenniskid493 and after july 3rd me as well who will have to validate it manually. This should stop most spambots from posting porn all over the forums.

In order to help us make the difference between spambots and real humans, if you are about to sign up, we ask you to use some judgement when typing in your e-mail address:

1) Use a real e-mail address, else, we will not be able to validate your account.
2) Please don't use an e-mail address containing words relating to innapropriate contents or advertising, like ''freepornfan@msn.com''. Else, we will be sure it's a spambot and delete the account.
3) Try, if possible, to use an Hotmail/MSN, Gmail, Lycos, Yahoo, Comcast or any other known e-mail services. This way, this make our task much easier when making the difference between automated accounts and real persons wanting to contribute to the Omnimaga forums.

I've decided to take this measure at the same time I decided to no longer set bans on spambots IP addresses. Setting bans on them prevented only a minor portion of bots from registering, and at the same time some real persons using dynamic (changing) IP addresses sometimes got a message saying they are not permitted to use this board. The new way should solve this issue. So from now on, new forum accounts have to be approved by one of the 4 administrators.

Thank you for understanding.
