Title: Alternate version of our new skin added and minor posting update
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 29, 2010, 02:55:42 pm
For people who have trouble with choppy scrolling on the new forum theme due to the fixed background image being more demanding for crappy computers and softwares, a second version of our Omnimaga v5 (2010) skin was added to the list. This new version looks exactly the same, except that the background will scroll with the page. It doesn't look as great when scrolling at the bottom of page (altough it would have looked much worse if the background repeated vertically), but it should accommodate these people.

I also figured out a way to make the attachment upload form show up automatically when clicking "reply" or "modify", on the posting page. Until now, it used to be hidden through an "Additional Options" link, which caused several new members to miss the upload form then ask how do they upload files on the forums over and over. It should be easier to see, now.

The scrolling issue seem to happen in Linux and old computers.

I noticed the attach feature. When I tried to do my first attach in Omnimaga forums, I missed the button to reveal the upload form... :P
Now it won't happen to new users and will be less 1 click to attach. *celebrates*

It seems more Linux to me, though, because the old Omnimaga forum originally started with a fixed background and in IE/Opera/Firefox, I would still manage to scroll at at least 10-15 FPS on a 350 MHz Pentium II running Windows XP SP2 with 256 MB of RAM and a 8 MB integrated video card.

Ouch, XP with Pentium II and 256MB? Sometimes I had my nerves tested with Pentium 4 and 512MB... I don't know if 10-15 FPS is good for wep pages or documents. I only know that for pc videos and games is bad.

Oh I kinda tolerated it ^^, but I think with the skin we switched to after I change computer in 2005, it would have been more like 2-3 FPS, like Myspace, because the image was 800x600 and each forum cell had bg images. The v3 skin we had was almost as bad too, even though the image for the bg was smaller.

For me, I never got problems with the background on Google Chrome for Linux. (Of course, I have an high end computer, so it must be choppy with older computers... I think it happenned on my Pentium II under XP.)

YAY, now I can use this layout!  Thanks DJ! (The other one was choppy for me too)
