Title: Blast from the past
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on May 10, 2011, 04:16:24 am
6 years minus 2 days ago, Omnimaga moved from a static HTML website to Invisionfree, using a forum and portal system to manage its content and eventually to allow the site users to interact and announce their calculator projects. Tonight we have converted the original Invisionfree Omnimaga forum theme from Invision Power Board 1.3.x to SMF 1.1.x, making it once again available here on the new site!

To select this theme, go on the front page in the left side-bar or on the board index at the bottom, then choose the forum theme called "v2 (2005) SMF Remix".

As you will notice, the theme style is a bit similar to the 2010 one that we are currently using as default, using a dark blue background with light-colored text areas, but due to Invisionfree limitations at the time, the text had to be made lighter so it is readable on both the dark background and the rest of the site. Also the theme might seem a bit ancient with the lack of many gradients. However, if you feel nostalgic and feel like browsing Omnimaga as close to how it was during Summer 2005 as possible or are an older forum member who feel like going even further back in time, then feel free to give this SMF conversion of the Omnimaga Calculator RPG Headquarter v2.0 theme a try.

For those who are even more nostalgic, this is exactly how Omnimaga looked like (http://www.omnimaga.org/images/screenshots/usersonlinerecord.jpg) from May 12th 2005 to October 2005. (Note that the star background was restored from this screenshot, as we no longer had a copy anymore)

I already tried it, and looks great, nice work DJ!

However, it's too bad that whenever i turn my PC off the default one is reactivated. Because it saves in cookies? Couldn't it be saved in the account instead?

I'm using it. It takes a little getting used to and the text is kind of hard to see in places but I like it

THanks guys. And yeah the reason why the text is so light is because on Invisionfree, both text outside and inside the DIV cells used the exact same CSS. As a result, if I made the text dark, it was impossible to read on dark site background images, and if I made it light enough, it became hard to read on the rest of the site. As a result, I had to find something in the middle.

I already tried it, and looks great, nice work DJ!

Weird, maybe you can change it successfully from profile->look and layout preferences? However if it's still cookie-based there, there there's nothing I can do. It might be your computer that has cookie settings issues.

It looks pretty nice. :)
I think I'm still going to stick with the one from 2010; I like the banner too much to change it. ;D

Hehe glad you like the banner. I spent a lot of time on the 2010 one since it required gathering plenty of screenshots together :D

However notice how the 2005 banner has some elements from the 2010  one :D

Yea, this old theme is kinda similar, but it seems to use a lot more neutral grays (not that that's a bad thing). 2008 theme is still my favorite though. 8)

No it was the short RPG one (there was an old TI-86 RPG on ticalc that lasted 12 seconds and it got featured on Omni in a sarcastic fake news). The second one ever was the Zelda: Minish cap 83+SE/84+SE port, on april fools day. Here's a list of most fake news posted on Omnimaga here: http://ourl.ca/8946 (I need to add OS 2.71MP and the Prizm LAN party to the list)

That Minish cap one was great! :D I remember seeing it mentioned on the old boards. :D

I changed it to this theme, then I logged out. After I logged back in, it was back the "old" one(the one it was normally). This means it's not saved in the account.
