Tonight, our long time member Runer112 has made a great discovery in the TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition OS (version 4.0), an undocumented, ASCII character and token viewer:
(http://img.ourl.ca//fontview.png) (http://i.imgur.com/1vzqXow.png)
Hidden in the Y= menu and only accessible via a specific sequence, this newly discovered color Z80 calculator model feature shows once again that Texas Instruments not only thrives to make their OSes stable, but also that they have thought about us while creating this OS!
In order to make monochrome calculator owners envy you for enjoying every TI-84+CSE character and token without the need of a single ASM/BASIC program, follow the following instructions:
[01:01:52] Runer112 open the apps meny
[01:01:55] Runer112 close it
[01:01:58] Runer112 open the Y= screen
[01:02:09] Runer112 open up the color/line properties for an equation
[01:02:15] Runer112 and then press alpha + some letter
[01:02:37] Runer112 now scroll up and down
[01:02:50] Runer112 and try out left and right every now and then
It is best to scroll down a bit before trying left and right, else this exits back to the home screen. However, if you find the right toolbox then press the left/right arrows, you'll now be able to view calculator tokens and ASCII characters in various colors!
It appears that this font viewer is also accessible via the Graph screen when using DRAW commands! Simply go on the graph screen, select a draw command, then go to the APPS menu, then hit CLEAR, then hit F5 to open the color setup, then finally, the ALPHA + some letter trick with the rest!
Beware, however: Although Runer112 claims there is no bug, according to the 2nd screenshot, this font editor appears to drain the battery very fast!
With TI, expect the (un)expected!

In other unrelated news, after Texas Instruments introduced nuclear-proof calculator packages (http://ourl.ca/18693), it's HP's turn to have done it, although they decided to do it with the HP Prime calculator itself. After you removed the screws to open it, there are extra clips inside the case that are next to impossible to open without destroying your fingers (or the calc).

Wow, tried this immediately. Sweet find. :P
-
OOOOOOh, i wish there was something like this on the monochrome one :P
-
I am SO getting a color calc!!! *.*
-
Thought about us, I would say "forgot to remove something." Seeing what they're doing with inspires, that would be a little more logic.
-
Is there a way to copy/paste them, or do they just sit there. Because if I can't put them on the homescreen, they are useless.

@Hexatron Any time you see a post in a weird color you have to read carefully ;)
Thanks TI! Love all the bonus features you add to your products! Hmmm.... super secret 'char viewer' or faster processor? Good choice TI

I know I'm not Hexatron, but i'm guessing that this means it's fake...

Yeah brown text news means joke/fake news. In fact the "char viewer" is actually a bug that Runer112 discovered in OS 4.0 for the 84+CSE. The news post was more to poke fun at TI (again). :P
-
Ah ok ;)
Still awesome though.
Also,
TI WHY U NO USE THIS SHADING NORMALLY:

Also pressing number keys gives a validation error.

Can somebody post a vid?

-
Thanks for the vid :D. As you can see, the glitch can be very scary due to the weird screen stuff.
-
Ha, thanks for the vid, this shows far better the awesome features of the char viewer :P
-
Sweet! Thanks for the vid! AssemblyBandit is probably my favorite user when it comes to CSE stuff.
-
Thanks Dapianokid! Gotta mash those buttons, sometimes its hard to find where the characters are hiding!
-
If more stuff like this happens before x-mas, I'll add one of these calcs to my wishlist. Put it on the top.
-
You are buying the calc because it has this bug? O.O Just kidding. There are some nice games out there already and it has lots of programming potential despite the slow processor. Just see Frogger, Tunnel, Pac Man and now on Cemetech that Dino Puzzle clone, for example.

You can do it by just going to the app screen then going to the Y= menu and pressing Alpha + a letter
