Title: Coding Battles Results
Post by: ruler501 on September 05, 2012, 08:49:58 pm
We have had two great competitors for this competition. We had Sorunome with MafiaBot which played the old game of mafia with many additional characters. We also had Merthsoft with his wonderful MineBot that would allow you to play Minesweeper over IRC. Both were great programs, but there can be only one winner. I am pleased to announce that Sorunome's MafiaBot won by 4 votes . The final tallies across Omnimaga and Cemetech was 7 votes for MafiaBot and 3 for MineBot. Congratulations Sorunome and I hope that development continues on this wonderful project. I also hope that Merthsoft continues work on MineBot. I'd be glad to see the highscore system implemented on his site.

All and all this was a good contest and I hope in future iterations we have the same quality of submissions. The voting for the next topic will be starting soon. I hope that we find a great topic that can attract even more people to active computer development work.

Wow, i won, thanks to everyone for support! (this is the first contest in my life i won :P)
And yep, mafiabot is still a on-going project! It only would be cool if more people played xD (And if there was a #omnimafia OmnomIRC channel)

Make sure your posts are constructive/helpful or admins may get angry

Well, that means if they open a OmnomIRC channel which i hope. Otherwise you could click then if you have 40 posts up there the IRC link and start the system and then type into the chatbox "/join #omnimafia" (without quotes)

/me didnt realize you could join other channels from omnom...

EDIT: maybe there should be a page somewhere describing what omnom can do and how to use it

I was thinking more of one that would explain to non-coders what omnom did. Thats more of a developer focused topic.

Oh, i thought you meant developing :P
So, for non-developers, I don't think it was made yet, but it is rather simple:
OmnomIRC is just some AJAX client that is connected with a IRC bot that posts everything you write into a IRC channel and vice versa.

and this bot can join any channel?
When you do /join #omnimafia is that on efnet or omni?

EDIT: when trying to join channels I get an error that it cant join new channels starting with a #

Oh, yeah, it only has fixed number of channels in it, that's why i'm trying to get someone into adding omnimafia :P
Oh, and to more stuff you can do:
/query <nickname>
^that will open a private chat to a user

it seems to let you join channels without a # would that be the same as private chat?

Yeah, exactly.
For pm you can also do
/msg <username> stuffyouwannewrite

could you use /join mafiabot to pm it instead of you or would it mess up because omnom was messaging them?

Currently if there was a OmnomIRC channel 'omnimafia' you'd have to do /msg sorunome, but yeah, /join sorunome would do (for pm stuff ONLY, other stuff would still be posted in public channel)

Its seems /join ruler501 or /join ruler doesnt pm me if I'm on the network. does it only work for if your using omnom?

Also this should probably be a seperate topic on omnom instead of using the results one

on OmnomIRC pm'ing yourself is buggy, and it is impossible to cross-network pm (well, i made a efnet-bot that allows you to read+write omnomirc pm, but that doesn't count as it loggs into your account :P)

nonono, you mean now Omninet, Omninet!=OmnomIRC, OmnomIRC is ONLY that chat-client-widget at the top of every omnimaga page

Omninet? Do you mean like chat on an IRC client?

OmniNet is omnimagas own IRC network. Why do so less people know about it, lol, you access it by hitting irc up there :P
