Title: Dive into Critor's TI collection...
Post by: Adriweb on April 07, 2012, 01:03:59 pm
Most of you may know critor for his Nspire programming and incredible expertise about pretty much all models actually ;-)

Critor has been collecting TI calculators (and other TI things that go with them) and especially Nspire stuff for quite some time now, and he tries very hard to get all the OSes he can (from the public ones to the rarest ones ever found)...

We asked him to take a photo of all his magnificent collection...
Well, you know, it can be impressive.
But let's compare ith other people first, just to show you how incredible it is :

Here's Brandon Wilson's collection (≈30 calcs) :

Here's Dan Englander's collection (≈20 calcs) :

But here's Critor's ! (more than 100 calcs) :
(http://i43.servimg.com/u/f43/13/23/13/53/my_ti_10.jpg) (http://tiplanet.org/forum/gallery/image_page.php?album_id=5&image_id=703)

 :o 8) :o

+1 to whoever wants to count in detail ;-)
(we got the detail but it wouldn't be fun to disclose everything :D)

I am working on AI for the calc and I want them to communicate with each other between my calcs. I bet if it was put on half your collection it could take over the world o.o

35 calculators come from TI, yes, and 2 from the DataMath museum.
But all others were bought.

I count:
2 view screens
1 CBL system
5 various cables
9 docking stations
29 lab cradles Edit: 39 lab cradles
1 wireless access point

more than 100 calcs

but only 99 calculators!
(I'm not sure what the thing in the lower left is)

Ninja'd by totorigolo.

And the TI-Nspire Viewscreen is a TI-Nspire CAS+ without a keyboard.

Is it because you're a teacher you get that much calcs? Also wow that's a lot. DJ's collection seems pretty small indeed.

Man critor, I knew you had several TI-nspire prototypes and stuff, but I didn't know there were that many! A whole factory or so of calcs! You could probably stack them up as building blocks or something :P

No, as I got most of them by my own means.

Interesting... might be for the next photo ;)

Am I the only who noticed that the first two pictures both have the orange, Detached Solutions screen covers?  TI made those years ago in such a low quantity that they're probably the rarest thing pictured in the three pictures.  And there are two pictured!

Wowh I just noticed now :O. I didn't know they did those before. I wonder if it was around 2001 when PuzzPack came out? (Before I join I mean)

Lol.

My collection is about the same size as DJ's, and Critor's collection makes mine look insignificant too. X.x Seriously impressive collection there! :D

Heh, I have "only" 23, like DJ :)
I bought only 5 of them myself; 15 were given by Romain Liévin (he bought some of them, TI gave him several others, and maybe others gave him some as well); the three remaining ones were given by critor (2 Nspire Clickpad prototypes) and TI (1 CX CAS).

Detacheds Solution is, to a certain extent, some sort of cult/mythical/legendary formerly active programming group, both in the way that they have released some of the most popular softwares at the time (PuzzPack, Omnicalc and MirageOS, for example) and also the fact that PuzzPack comes pre-installed on most TI-83+SE/84+ calculators. The fact TI themselves released DS-themed slide cases is something.

I cant be sure but I think so as most people at my school know you can download programs. they just think you have to write them in basic on each if they even know programs are possible

It's great to be here, I've visited many times over the years but finally joined up :)

Lol yeah. I haven't even really used my TI-89. I bought it intending to learn 68K assembly and never really got around to it... Maybe one day!

Cool to hear. So now I know why Omni ran so slow at times.  <_<

Just kidding, do you still have any projects or updates planned in the near future by the way? If you do, feel free to let us know on the forums or IRC when you have some time. Of course there is also the occasional ASM topic here and there too from forum users. :) Also I recall you played in a music band, right? I myself have made a lot of music from 2002 to 2004 and restarted in 2006, but I did not post any until 2007 and most of it is software-generated rather than with actual instruments.
Title: Re: Dive into Critor's TI collection...
Post by: JamesV on April 16, 2012, 11:56:26 am
Haha :)

I've got one more update I'm working on, just a minor update to my Hangman game, which is mainly a bug fix on the TI-86 version, but also hopefully a few small optimisations.

There's probably 3-4 other projects that I've started at various times over the years that were never completed.. It would be nice to get a new game out lol, but see how I go :)

Yeah I'm in a band at the moment, called Belle Haven (http://www.facebook.com/bellehaven). Also I have a lot of drum covers (and a few on other instruments) on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/jamesv82). Working full time along with the band and other music stuff keeps me occupied these days :)

I see. What would be cool is a port of Banchor to the 83+ series actually :P (I love RPGs lol), but of course since grayscale is so different on the 83+, it would require heavy editing, not to mention the much smaller LCD.

And nice, I will have to check your stuff out on FB and Youtube.
Title: Re: Dive into Critor's TI collection...
Post by: JamesV on April 16, 2012, 06:29:29 pm
Lol oh man, I'd love to port Banchor to 83+, it would get so much more play, seeing as by the time I actually finished it, barely anyone was using the TI-86 anymore.

The smaller screen wouldn't be a big issue, I could just redesign the maps accordingly, I don't think that would be a major issue. I've never done grayscale on the 83+, so I'd have to learn that. And then the other issue is the amount of map / other data in the game; off the top of my head, the total game size was close on 64KB on the 86 haha. It wouldn't be as much on the 83+, as the maps would be 12x8 instead of 16x8, but I'd have divide the map data into multiple files and swap the relevant files between Flash mem & RAM as necessary. No doubt this is possible... Definitely food for thought :)
