Title: DJ Omnimaga resigns from Omnimaga manager
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 21, 2010, 07:52:08 pm
Until further notice (most likely for the entire holiday vacations) I will now remain as regular Omnimaga forum member, active posting, but I am retiring from my administrator position. This means I will not be answering forum-related requests for the entire time.

Since I quit calculator programming 4 months ago, I do not have anymore calculator projects, and thus, I cannot remain in the programming team either. I also do not have any op privilege on Netbot45 anymore. So for now, I will be a normal forum member instead of staff or manager. I will still be as active posting as I am now, though.

The reason why I am temporary resigning is due to the increasing amount of stress that comes with a forum manager position since the past two and half a month, ranging from moderation to large amounts of requests. I like to participate in forum discussions, but the extreme amount of stress the admin position came with in the past months has made me lose motivation over time. Before, I was impatient to come back from work and check forum active topics and participate. Now I have to force myself to post, most of the time. When I feel like posting, I usually end up spending the entire time into moderation, instead. Sometimes, it also seems from the people involved that I'm not even doing a good job at running the site. In other words, this is why I need some time off from my admin position, and would prefer to simply remain a regular active member. I had in mind to do this for over a month already. Today the time has come.

For site requests and issues, you will now have to ask Hot_Dog, Eeems, Builderboy or Ztrumpet, depending of their activity, as the task is now distributed among them.

The reasons you give to doing so are fair and I totally understand them. You have good arguments to proof your point.

However, I can't conceive seeing you as normal member for some reason, you are able to handle a huge community and believe me, the best ti calculators community in the web. You are one of the very few who can do it, so you are the best admnistrator we could have since you are also the founder.

Sorry DJ, I would like to see you turning back your decision :)

As always, good luck DJ.  You have our best wishes, and we will be glad when you feel you are able to take on an administrative position again.

I can definitely see where you're coming from, and I hope you enjoy your break. It's definitely a well deserved one.

Keep in mind everyone that he's not leaving us forever :P
active posting,
and that he won't even not be as admin for that long:
(most likely for the entire holiday vacations)
(not that I'm holding it to you to un-retire as soon as holidays are over :P)

Also to DJ, remember that we have 4 other admins and 10 staff that can help you out on the moderating side; we'll always (at least, most of the time XD) be here to support you :)

If I could work on TAO (*couch* Eeems *cough* oasis *cough*) then I could become a COT.

Anyway, Dj, enjoy your vacation!

I can indeed imagine the stress of running this thing. Also because it seems that I provoke lots of stress around here :s. So, it's nice to see you're gonna relax for a time :D

Yeah, I'm starting with ZDS right now, while trying to do usb stuff. I need to define many enemies, so I need to figure out the story-line exactly. (I have a good idea on how to do that)

This is better than before when it was because people were disrespectful to DJ.  Somehow, I don't think this is not going to change much.  DJ will still post, and we will still all respect him, manager or not.  ;)

Viva la DJ Omnimaga!  I would probably quit omnimaga, org if you did too, but if you at least stay, I will too.  You're a great guy, though I'm sure moderation really cut into your personal life.  I wish you the best of luck in real life and as staying active on omnimaga.  Hopefully you will convince yourself to get back into calc programming, without the stresses of being an admin.

As a second thought, DJ has always been a strong leader of omnimaga.  Let's hope we can still stay strong.  Even if things get choatic during this transition time, I will get pissed if someone blames it on DJ.  He put so much time into omni and has gone through so much stress I am suprised he didn't do this a long time ago; he deserves his leave as admin, he put his sweat and blood into letting us have this community -- and is now the largest around today.

Happy holidays, DJ; and I hope the holdiays remove some stress from your back, dude ;)

That's sad :'( anyway, it's true that managing a forum as big as Omnimaga is very difficult :/ Good stressless vacation though ;)

Graphmastur: Use windows for now :p
DJ: Its too bad that the stress got this bad, I wish I had done more to alleviate it. Hopefully we can handle the forum without you in an administrator position. Hope the vacation helps :)
Everyone: this is just a reminder, there is a report button, don't just use it for spam, if you see someone who is being rude, or anything against the rules, let us know. I know I don't read all the posts on the forum, so it will be very helpful :)

Yeah I notice it has only be used 3 times since this forum opened actually. Once it was someone advertising his help topic and the other two times it was a spambot. This button, as well as the one in PMs, should probably be used, I think, because I am pretty sure I could have missed posts myself too, especially in October and the first half of November, when we had like 400 posts a day. If some people noticed, some of my warnings were sent 2-3 days late.

Well I hope you don't leave completely if I ever leave. It would suck because IMHO there are a lot of other nice people around and it would sound like you only visited because I was around ???. That said, I don,t plan to leave anytime soon, though. There could be breaks, especially with holidays, but I don't think a permanent leave could happen unless things went south IRL.

Yeah, actually, does that warning send a message or notification to the user who posted it in the first place? So we see that someone didn't like that. I guess it's kinda like seeing what posts we get rated down for.

@Eeems: I am for now. ;-)

All admins get notified when a report is sent. I don't know if the person receives a notification, though.

Yeah I was kinda worried you would kinda vanish because last Winter you had like 3 posts on UTI and TIBD per month combined. Hopefully most of the current users remains active for a while.

I shall catch up on posts within the next few weeks, hopefully.

Well, actually, the only reason I got back into calcs was because of the fact that there was that Axe competition that inspired TAO. Then TAO became a huge undertaking, so I stayed.

Spoiler For Spoiler:
But don't think you're getting rid of me when TAO is done.

I'M returning in the manager group tonight, but I'M not gonna be that active until at least Friday. I'll be posting news and doing some minore forum updates, as well as staff changes.

I also started discussing with Eeems about ways to ensure that forum members realizes that there is not just one admin in the team. One thing in particular involves that the entire management team will be notified of requests sent via PM if a member only PMs one admin for one, unless the admin who got the request answers it immediately. I'll also be checking with all admins to ensure they will be active enough in the next months to do it, so I can apply changes to the admin team, if necessary.  The latter would ensure that not just one single admin (recently, Hot Dog, then later, me) is stuck with all the work.

Yeah that might not help X.x. If you notice on the front page, I listed myself last in the list now. I'll also move the red text in my sig around so people notice.

Thanks, by the way. I was still kinda around, just not as active (and will remain that way until the weekend)

Nah I was still around. There were just periods where I didn't post for 2 days or an entire day, while before I posted 100 times a day most days.

My break was supposed to last til new year is done. Actually despite putting myself back as admin I'm still not doing the entire task. I just wanted to be able to post news and do some minor stuff. My activity will also probably remain sparse for a while since my work schedule is different for the next two weeks. I also try to vary my activities more.
