A lot of people will probably be pleased to learn that it is now possible to upload attachments using file names that were already used before on the forums. When updating to Simplemachines 1.1.8 in Early 2009, we lost the ability to disable encrypted attachment file names, but for some reasons, the SMF team did not plan anything to re-allow duplicate attachment name uploads, despite forcing encrypted names since then. Recently we learned that we could edit the old option in the MySQL database, to allow duplicate names.
It especially made things worse because once uploading failed, clicking back then trying again would also fail, regardless of the validity of the upload, so a full page refresh was required.
Hopefully this should be much less hassle for people who want to use common names, as file renaming to things like e3e3dwywe78ey7.jpg or trial and error aren't needed anymore.

YAY!!!!!!!
This got so annoying :P

Yeah it was. Also in Opera, when clicking post/preview, if I go back afterward, it no longer lets me type because of SMF locking down fields (probably a spam protection). I even remember having to restart the browser to get uploading to work again after an error.

This is nice. Didn't happen too many times with me yet.

:w00t: I had problems with that, especially with this ↓

Me too. I am so glad that this is fixed.

Thank you so much. Now I can finally just upload a file without trying to figure out if that name has ever been used before. Now, I won't have to tack on "zzz" to my uploads.
I also lost an entire 4 paragraph post the other day due to refresh not working...

Ouch, that sort of happened to me (losing a large post) but it was not a super long one.
-
This will be so much easier! Thanks!

In my case, near the end, I clicked back, copied the post content, then refreshed the page and pasted the post again. But I still lost the topic title and stuff.

I learned to do that. It was annoying.

Yeah, me too, I often lost large post, but I clicked back then copy-pasted the contents over.

I lost a huge post once due to this, and I'm glad to see it fixed. Thanks! ;D

Well, this is certainly awesome, thanks a lot :)
