File attachments size cap increased from 256 KB to 1 MB

Forum attachments maximum size has been increased to 1 MB, now. You can upload a maximum of 4 MB per post, spread among a maximum of 10 files. The former limit, originally set due to the amount of diskspace usage projected for both websites hosted on this hosting package being much lower than expected, used to be 256 KB per file and only 1 MB per post could be uploaded. This should make it easier to upload high quality animated screenshots, videos and large images.

The file extensions now allowed are txt, zip, rar, gif, jpg, png, bmp, jpeg, mp3, wav, avi, mov, mpg, mpeg and mp4.

UPDATE: New extensions were added, such as ogg, wma, 8xk, 8xp and more.

Why TI forums don't allow .inc, .asm, .z80, .8xp and .8xk files? I know there is .txt and zip but sometimes only one file is enough. xD
Bah don't bother with this, easily fixable.


I didn't know that screens were so limited by size... I hope people rush to show their projects now. ;D

I can easily add more extensions. However, I am unsure about .exe, in case someone uploads a virus or something (that could potentially harm the server)

To be honest, though, I do not recommend only sticking to ogg when sharing music, because most people uses Windows and have to download and install a ogg player. Same goes for WMA files. Despite the advantages of ogg, I tend to prefer sharing music in mp3 format, since almost all computers comes with a mp3 player. On TIMGUL forums, we allowed all music extensions, but only one person ever used wma and few people used ogg format. When those people did, others complained that they couldn't open the file and to upload a mp3 version. In other words, some people might not even bother downloading your file if they are a bit lazy

On the newer version of Wabbit it only allows "double-sized" screenshots (normal sized only produced one frame for some reason), so the screen shot files are ~4x larger.

Back in the days, animated screenshots averaged between 50 and 100 KB. However, in the past few years, emulators with their own screenshot makers came out and because of their much smoother quality, this made screenshots increase in size. WabbitEmu went further by allowing 30 fps screenshots, which, combined with double size, made their average size skyrocket. I remember back when I did a 10 minute screenshot and it only took about 1 MB. Now I take a 20 seconds screenshot and sometimes it's alerady over 1 MB.

If ZIP is allowed, wouldn't they be able to put an EXE (or any other type they want) in it and upload that, though?

I wish Ogg Vorbis were more widespread, though. I would be using it if it weren't for the fact that portable music players supporting it are still fairly uncommon. (And, given that it's a license-free format, I frankly don't think there's much of an excuse for manufacturers not to, either.) MP3 may be the de-facto standard, but it's getting outdated. You can cram a lot more sound quality into much smaller files with modern codecs.

Ogg is nice, and I like to support open-source file formats, but it really is underused compared to popular file formats.
Besides, those that use ogg probably know how to convert their files to mp3/wma.

I'd like to see more widespread flac support. Lossless audio is superb if your speakers/headphones can handle it.

well, they can put EXE in zip files. I was just afraid that an EXE file alone could maybe execute itself on the forum server or something like that if it happened to be a virus. Again, I could be wrong, though.

And yeah I wish Ogg was more popular. Once, I saved a mp3 in low quality with it and it still sounded as good as a 128 kbps mp3 equivalent, while being smaller. Popular music players, as bad as some people considers them, should all have OGG support, IMHO.
