Title: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: critor on January 19, 2012, 01:50:58 pm
Was it hard for you to fill the 128MB of your TI-Nspire CX ?
Then today is the great day for you!

All nDoom 2.0 supported Doom games have been uploaded to TI-Planet! :o
We've optimized the WAD file sizes by removing sounds and musics, as they aren't supported in nDoom 2.0 yet :P

We've considered those files to be abandonware, but might remove them anytime if we're asked to - so you should download them as soon as possible.

Doom Shareware (3.2MB)
adventure of 8 maps + 1 secret map

Ultimate Doom (9.9MB)
4 adventures of 8 maps + 1 secret map each

Doom II - Hell On Earth (11.9MB)
adventure of 30 maps + 2 secret maps

Final Doom - The Plutonia Experiment (14.7MB)
adventure of 30 maps + 2 secret maps

Final Doom - TNT Evilution (15.7MB)
adventure of 30 maps + 2 secret maps

Total:55.4MB and hours of fun!!! ;D(http://www.omnimaga.org/Themes/default/images/gpbp_arrow_up.gif)

Very nice!

Also worth noting TI-Planet also have NES ROMs to download so you can play NES games on your Nspire.

Huh, when I try to play them on my CX, I get the error, document format not supported doom1.wad.tns.

Yet the demo programs work fine :S

You cannot run Doom levels directly.

You need a WAD player like nDoom 2.0 -> http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=3889

This is awesome, I just played it and it works pretty fine. :D

The only downside is that the wad selection menu is quite sensitive, so i always accidentally moved up/down, making it very hard to select a wad in particular and easy to accidentally click something you don't want to. On the other hand, at least the Touchpad gets detected at all for me now. :P

At the wad selection menu, you don't need to press but just to touch the touchpad.

Yeah I know, but sometimes it's a bit hard to select stuff without moving down too far D:

this is confusing how is it legal for you to give the wads on tiplanet?
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: jwalker on January 19, 2012, 07:25:38 pm
nDoom is awesome!!
EDIT: quick question, is the level downloaded with nDoom 2.0, the same as the iwad doom(shareware)?, or is it a registered one?
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: critor on January 19, 2012, 07:36:28 pm
The level included is the shareware.

I think it's right now considered abandonware. They say if they're told to remove the files they will though.

I mean the 5 wads you host on tiplanet

We've considered them as abandonware.
Their hosting might not last very long, but I think we are ok for the weekend.

If we have to remove them, what is sad is that wad files you'll find online are bigger.

ah ok
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on January 19, 2012, 07:58:12 pm
Yeah I doubt anyone would care, although you need to make sure to do frequent backups in case one day your hosting provider would freak out or something. I think in short terms the main danger is if PIPA/SOPA ever got approved and the site got blocked in USA.

On the original blue non-CAS with Clickpad, if you hit even slightly to the left or right of the up arrow he starts spinning like a mad man. Clickpad worked fine in ndoom_b1. Great update!

Sorry, I've only tested on TouchPad and CX Nspire.
And nobody among the testers has reported this problem to me.

I'll investigate.

Ok, there seems to be a problem with the "run" key that is needed to win at Doom II.

On the TouchPad, normal movements are just by touching the touchpad, and fast movement by pressing it.

Pressing the clikpad should not have enabled fast movements.

Thank you very much.

If pressing the touchpad does not work, there is another way by holding trig or = keys.

You can also play quake with nDoom, but the graphics/engine are the same as doom.

Hi and welcome here, thanks for the discovery. But someone should edit that WAD file in case a lot of stuff can be removed to reduce file size. It's great that non-Doom games can be ran with the Doom engine lol.

I had tested Heretic and it didn't work.

So I had assumed every more recent non-Doom IWAD wouldn't work either.

Great news, thanks! :)

Yes, the mods have to be full independant IWAD files and not additional PWAD files which aren't supported yet.

Thank you very much for the link. I've added the following on TI-Planet:

I also tried Half Life and Doom 64, but they didn't work.

Other interesting/working mods I may have missed on your page?

Thanks again.

Um, isn't there a level in Doom where you need to jump?  How do you jump?
For shooting at enemies that are above, bullets auto go up right?
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!

So are those games the real games or are they just Doom mods made by the community? If they're the real game, then I'm curious about jumping too and also how do you look up and down with the camera in Duke Nukem 3D?

I don't think you can look up and down in the DOOM engine. You can still shoot at enemies at different elevations without doing so.

I doubt you could indeed, although in Duke Nukem 3D it was possible (and even required due to enemies flying over your head and shooting you).

I guess nDoom is basically a port of the Doom engine, so every game listed as using the Doom engine works in nDoom, but not the Quake engine games.

Just popping out of limbo to say, Critor is the awesomest guy ever (and so is ExtendeD and everyone else that managed to crack OS 3.1).

Seriously, you're awesome; all I did was the easy stuff at the start, then gave up after that. Instead, you actually did all the hard work and ported it to the CX, navigating my spaghetti 'code' and all. Congrats!
Critor for best pony!

Hm, this save problem seems almost similar to the save problem I had before.  What happened was I saved right before the exit door on the first level.  (Pretend this was like my 5th save)
After that, I saved again, but when I hit the Catalog button to load, it would constantly go back to the 5th save no matter what.  Later I deleted the save file and restarted and I didn't have the problem again.

edit: still no answer, can you jump in Doom? I was watching on Youtube and one part they had to jump a gap by running and jumping...

The duke nukem series is kind of suggestive my mom doesn't let me play any of the duke nukem games. Duke nukem forever starts out... never mind, i can't say it. Not necessarily. But good warning. Some parents don't mind actually. I could watch 13+ movies as soon as I was 8+, but as long as I was with my mom. As for 18+ movies and games she didn't care by the time we turned 15-ish.

It's a bug related to the Nspire OS and/or Ndless.

It was allready present in Ndless 2.0.

To make things clear:
Program that directly read the screen buffer might encounter this issue, on all hardware. I'm not sure why though.
Changing this in Ndless's Particles demo did fix the issue. critor, you should also check this in nDoom. nspire_emu should help you.

But what do you mean by "reading the screen buffer" ?
The code is supposed to "write to the screen buffer", isn't it?
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: ExtendeD on January 26, 2012, 01:12:42 pm
Yes, but reading from it would be also possible (for pixel testing or fading for instance), but not recommended as it can cause the screen shift.
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: critor on January 26, 2012, 01:33:25 pm
Which my code shouldn't do... So it's going to be hard to debug that.
Moreover, the bug seems to be random :(
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: ExtendeD on January 26, 2012, 01:45:02 pm
Extending nspire_emu to detect it shouldn't be too hard.
Title: Re: Fill your CX with Doom!
Post by: Goplat on January 26, 2012, 01:57:07 pm
Reading from the screen can't be a problem specific to Ndoom - Both boot2 and the OS do it during initialization, and so does Ndless ploaderhook (line 65: "memcpy(savedscr, SCREEN_BASE_ADDRESS, SCREEN_BYTES_SIZE);"), but Ndoom doesn't do it.

I think the problem is related to the memory access size. I've seen the bug happen in my own programs when using byte-sized accesses, but never when using word-sized accesses.
