HP Prime Wireless Kit announced, but no release date
« on: February 20, 2014, 11:35:54 pm »
HP has posted a video of the new HP Prime Wireless Kit today:

http://h20621.www2.hp.com/video-gallery/us/en/products/14F57E08-BCF8-415E-9EF4-45795808522C/r/video/

It is designed to allow the teacher to monitor student progress and share documents from the teacher computer to a maximum of 30 calculators without needing a cable. Unfortunately, there is no release date nor MSRP available anywhere. We also hope that the calculator stability issues caused by the official HP Connectivity Kit are fixed before this comes out.

At least it is reasonably sized compared to the Nspire ones.

What I am curious about is if it will be as overpriced too. The costs to implement this in classes can pile up very fast with 30 calcs and wireless kits.

I've always wanted to get the Nspire Navigator, but it's a couple thousand dollars. It would be awesome if this was cheaper than $500. :)

Actually I think there are versions of the navigator that are cheaper due to having less calc slots, but they're still pretty expensive even for a single calc (over $200-300 IIRC)

I doubt it - organizations are less sensitive to price than individuals.

At least it is reasonably sized compared to the Nspire ones.

The Nspire CX ones were reasonably sized to my advice:

The older Nspire ones were much bigger because they did include a powerful rechargeable battery which could even power the TI-Nspire - which is not the case here.

I also uploaded yesterday some hi-res pictures of the HP-Prime wireless module:

it's that i like the Nspire keypad.. but this calculator is getting pretty awesome. is there some kind of hack needed to program in c/c++ like ndless?
it is a shame that the Nspire has such a small battery.. this one has 5000mAh?

edit: it is more a shame hp shows a 5000mAh battery in there video..

The HP-Prime comes with a 1500mAh battery (and the TI-Nspire CX with 1200mAh).
Although it's true that you can replace it with a Samsung Galaxy S3 battery, I've never heard of 5000mAh batteries - only up to 4000mAh. But anyway, extended capacity batteries just won't fit in the HP-Prime, because they are much thicker and  the connector is on the wrong side of the battery.

A hack to program in C/C++ doesn't exist for now.

at the end it shows a 5000mAh battery.

sinds i don't have a nspire battery anymore i use an old phone battery. but that wont charge..

Nice find ! :D

But I'm pretty sure it's an error.
It's not the only error in the video ;)

It will not be ridiculously priced. I can't announce final pricing because I'd hate to step on anyone's toes, but it will be nowhere like the nspire wireless link costs. It will be quite reasonable.

Yeah, there are some silly errors in the video (like the battery, or that poor kid in the corner that didn't get connected apparently, or the dual sliding cases...) :-D

When you have people that normally make things for laptops, they tend to mess up things like "small battery".
