Title: Incoming Downtime
Post by: Netham45 on April 22, 2012, 03:20:15 pm
There will be some slight downtime later today as we transition over to a new server. We're expecting at most an hour of downtime. Before then, there may be periodic slowness as large amounts of data are moved.

Edit: The site will lock now. It'll return once the DNS settings have propgated and moved over to the new domain.

There was a reset of about a day due to a corrutped file I couldn't recover.

It won't. We're getting the backups set back up as we speak.

I hope the post losses are not too frequent, though, since that might cause users to stop posting until the server gets fixed, fearing their content will be gone again next day. Also it's rather scary to see something like this happen after what happened to TIMGUL...

Btw:

Spam page 1: 9.50-57.50s
Spam page 2: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 3: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 4: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 5: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 6: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 7: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 8: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 9: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 10: 0.15-0.35s
Spam page 11: 0.15-0.32s
Spam page 12: 1.15-2.45s
Spam page 13: 1.15-2.45s
Spam page 14: 1.15-2.45s
Spam page 15: 1.15-2.45s

Page 13 through 15 got only topics with negative IDs
Page 2 through 11 got only topics with positive IDs
Page 12 got the former at the bottom and the latter at the top
Page 1 got the former and latter mixed up.

An admin should alternatively bump about 6 negative topics and 6 positive ones in the "Other calc projects and ideas" section of the forums, then see what happens.

If load seems normal, then move both Axe Parser 2000+ post threads temporarily in the other calc projects section too. See what happens.

If any similar lag occurs in that far larger sub-forum, then the minus world is causing lag. (hoping it doesn't force the deletion of all 54000 posts there...)

If load seems fine, then the spam section got hacked... (probably script injection in a topic title)

But is this all due to the server move? if so move it back, are you still getting ddoses?

On Barrett's server, the spam section gave similar page loads too. Every minus topic list on every other section also gave similar loads as page 12-15 of spam. (except in news)

It only started after the old board merged with the current site, but Page 1 load issues only started around a month ago IIRC. I even made a topic about the issue there at the time http://ourl.ca/15695

I didn't notice any problem before I made that topic, even after people bumped all the Number threads following the merge. I have never managed to get a single Spam@page#1 load under 9 secs in over one month now...

Yeah we're close to hitting 300000 now. But to reach 400000 one day Omnimaga has to not suffer downtimes or slowdowns during half a year like MaxCoderz or UTI did before (in MC's case, Kv83 kept forgetting to pay the hosting bill and UTI just had crappy uptime). Should downtimes end soon, it should be fine as long as there's another CoT hiring run next Summer and a contest to renew the team's blood, along with an e-mail notifying all members that the site is fixed.

Btw I still get slowdowns, but only after trying to access slow pages or when many people are online. It doesn't seem as bad as last afternoon so far, though (it went down for like 2 hours once).
/me thinks you need more RAM to put the db directly in a RAM disk or something.

Also, the homepage is slow, too. I don't have a problem with other pages, that I use, though. (I never noticed how slow the spam section is, probably because I don't use it o.O)

Actually now that Omnom is gone, the home page seems fine to me now. And yeah the spam section (or at least page 1) has been like that for a month now. I usually reply to new posts there from the New posts list anyway.
