Title: Introducing the TI-Nspire CX mini Presenter
Post by: critor on March 31, 2012, 08:26:12 pm
EDIT: Happy April Fool's Day! Unfortunately, the TI-Nspire CX mini Presenter isn't real (we hope it will though :D), we hope you enjoyed our annual prank! Huge thanks to the TI-Planet staff for making this possible. Seems TI enjoyed our prank (https://www.facebook.com/TICalculators/posts/373684336005530) as well...

Cross-posting from TI-Planet.

Casio was advertising the ability for the Casio Prizm to be directly connected to video projectors through USB...
Texas Instruments is going to make you forget that!

What resolution does it project at?

Also is there an official TI announcement? It is close to April 1st...

Hmmmm... Either this is some really cool stuff, or a really good April Fools joke...

Hey that's pretty cool stuff.

Also note that TI probably told Critor et al. about this and they got the OK to announce it before TI announce it themselves.

I wonder if these would work with non CX's as well as the CX

making it require 3.2 would be a smart move on their part to force the upgrade

Assuming this comes out within a short timeframe, I wouldn't be surprised if they charged hundreds, if not thousands of dollars for this (especially considering projectors themselves can't be found under $600 here), and required OS 3.2 to make people switch. <_<

This would definitively be cool, though, lol.

Have a closer look at the image:

The TI-Nspire CX mini Presenter is using the proprietary connector from the CX Navigator (Wifi) module.

That connector is missing on non-CX, so there's no way you'll be able to use it.

Want :P

Imagine:
1. Install ndless
2. Hook up a 500Gb harddrive with movies on it
3. Install video player for nspire
4. Profit  ;D

(5. and of course gaming on huge (relatively) screen :P)

What i've got to say is: great blender rendering adriweb Levak, as always xD

Despite this is not impossible to appear on the nspire I won't believe untill I see a TI announcement on this :P

now all that ti has to do is notice how great an idea like this is and make it

Adriweb, do you know how to use Blender?
Personnally, I don't...

haha lol no, I (seriously) have no Blender skills :P

The only thing I've ever done is modifying an existing project to have my own text
(see here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_WVCO99FoY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_WVCO99FoY) - the very beginning, the animation)

Don't be sad about that... anyway that's a great idea, maybe someday TI will grab it and make this "mini-Presenters" to offer teachers giving nspire formation...

But yes, maybe if some technical drawings instead of the (great) rendering were shown maybe you could fool me :P

I think I received some more technical things by mail.

Let me find them and post them here.

Nah, I got the mail 2 days ago I think.

About the technical things, I actually can't disclose them, after having checked, but here's a photo with some things :P

Sorry but I had to "blue" some parts :/

TI on facebook, 2 hours ago:
https://www.facebook.com/TICalculators/posts/373684336005530

Did they like it? or not?

But at least, we hope you liked it: the TI-Planet / Omnimaga common April Fool's prank! :)

People you can write to in order to thank them or blame them:
- me for the idea
- Levak for generating the images with Blender

and me for the photoshopping of the photo (was originally a navigator wifi plug ;) )
Title: Re: Introducing the TI-Nspire CX mini Presenter
Post by: renatose on April 01, 2012, 06:09:16 pm
that's a great idea and the blending is also great, I wasn't fooled because I am studying engineering and I didn't though it could be feasible in such a small size and with the battery power of the nspires despite there are some new mobile phones with the pico projector and similar battery packs I wasn't seeing TI introducing this to calculators this fast... And after all TI would make it big so it could look expensive and sell it around 400US$.

EDIT:
and me for the photoshopping of the photo (was originally a navigator wifi plug ;) )
That's what I though ;)

According to the Pico docs (found here (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/dlpu003a/dlpu003a.pdf), page 12), it uses about 5V. The Nspire probably has more than enough. Then again, I'm not too sure how much voltage it outputs for that connector...

That was a great prank, and if the other news are fake too, nice ones as well. :) I wasn't fooled, noticing the date, but since we typically post both real and fake news on April 1st I wasn't too sure actually. To me it seemed too good to be true and even if it was true, I bet TI would charge insane prices for it, so nobody would be able to afford it except rich schools. :P

Btw per Omni standards, on April 2nd you might want to add a at the start of your fake news and a at the end, like every other April 1st and fake news. That will keep things consistent :P (text will show up like this)

Indeed. Last year, the April Fools joke was the CAS OS running on the Nspire model sold as non-CAS ( http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=115353#p115353 )... and the joke became reality :)
The core functionality of OSLauncher is five C statements, so it was not very hard, in fact.
