The #omnimaga IRC channel has gone to -i so people can now start rejoining again. It will remain +m though so we can work with a possible new system which we may or may not be keeping.
Feel free to drop in again and chat.
-
This is cool, any prediction on when OmnomIRC will be back?
-
Apparently it's going to come back skipping the Post Notifier only Stage. I'm guessing when Netham gets it back up, since DJ said it was okay.
-
Sweet. Inviting people all the time then voicing them was getting kinda annoying... But still, that was necessary for a while.
-
I think we should be fine again. However we're gonna have to watch out if another popular game port for calcs get featured again on 10 popular gaming sites. No offense to gamers, but that group of people is typically not the friendliest one. To get an idea, just find Starcraft Brood War or Halo 3 videos on youtube and read the comments...
However, the recent upsurge was extended by some ppl who felt it was the best to just badmouth all our moderation moves that we did to protect the channel from the wave.

We have an auto voicer now too :;)
-
Won't an auto-voicer kinda defeat the purpose of keeping the chan +m, though? ???
-
Not if you implement a whilelist/blacklist thing...
-
The easiest way is to keep up with host(s) for users. In fact, you could make yourself login with a password ibto IRC itself, too.
-
Nice! I joined immediately!
-
The auto voicer allows for people to not have to wait for an op to become active, and with whitelists/blacklists as juju said, it wont really defeat the purpose.
Hopefully we will be able to add full functionality of the whitelists/blacklists soon too. I'm not quite sure what netbot is capable of so it might already be able to do that.
-
I'm not sure yet. I don,t think Netbot has anything to auto-devoice ppl.
-
I do hope you bring back the post update feature; that was really nice.

Do you mean when a post is edited, like on Cemetech? That might be useful, but there should probably be something to detect if it was a large change in the post to put it in the channel, though.
Also, is there a way so Jarvis doesn't remind you of the rules every time you join? Not a big problem, but it's kind of confusing when this bubble pops up and I think it's an error or something :P

in IRC it's there, Omnom is just not online yet. Also, is there a way so Jarvis doesn't remind you of the rules every time you join? Not a big problem, but it's kind of confusing when this bubble pops up and I think it's an error or something :P
You would have to talk to Tribal, but I think that it is good to have it remind people every time they/we/I join
-
I think Jarvis should only remind of rules when it detects a new hostmask in the future, and allow an admin to reset the flag when rules are updated.
Also for the troubles we got recently, I just remembered now that nDoom was featured on EncyclopediaDramatica forums. I wonder if that could be the source of the problems a few weeks ago? O.O

I still can't get used to the way Omnimaga looks without omnom--it's like a calc without a screen
ofc as soon as I get used to it it'll probably come back, because life works that way for some reason :P

I know, it feels really strange.
-
Yeah same here. I used to worry the top of the page would be too big. I even removed the latest 15 posts list once, however now it seems too small. I hope it's enabled again soon.
-
Same here, even though OmnomIRC didn't existed when I first joined. It takes up some time before getting used to this again. I think I'm getting used already...
-
Maybe just have a blanks window "in memory of omnom"
You know, remember that first post on every page thing? Maybe that can go there...

Well it will be back up soon anyway.

For people that really want to SEE OmnomIRC, but don't care if they can't post in it, do this:
Add a bookmark named OmnomIRC in your bookmark bar.
Set the location to:
javascript:void(document.getElementById('column4').innerHTML="

OmnomIRC

Java chat | Today\'s log | | This year\'s logs | More...

");
Save it. Now click on it. You should have OmnomIRC on the top of your page. You just can't post.
You will have to click everytime you load a new page on the bookmark link, but that isn't so hard.
Have fun!
-
Okay, that's awesome. How did you go about figuring that out?
-
Nice jim. Make sure to not allow posting, though, to prevent abuse. :P
-
Well, it actually happened by accident. I found somewhere the source of an omnimaga forum page (on pastebin actually) and copied the OmnomIRC code. I modified the code a bit, escaped all special characters, and looked for a spot in the current omnimaga page were I could insert it.
As soon as I found the perfect spot I made the bookmark 'url', and posted it here.
-
Ah ok. Just saying, since guests can see this code. X.x

Well... It's not possible to chat using it - only to read, just like it was for guests before OmnomIRC closed.
-
Yeah true. By the way does it auto-refresh? Guests couldn't see Omnom chat even before anyway. (To save bandwidth)
-
It does :)
Just the same, but without the text prompt.
I hardly had to change anything on the code :)

Oh, they didn't? Maybe I was thinking of when I had <20 posts...
It's not like it's going to hurt the bandwidth now, since it's so hard to access.
-
Nah it just said a message they needed to register/login. Otherwise, Netham45 bandwidth would be maxed out in one day. I guess it might be good to take that code down (or put it in Randomness) when OmnomIRC returns.

I guess it might be good to take that code down (or put it in Randomness) when OmnomIRC returns.
But it won't do anything when OmnomIRC is already there, right?
Or is it going to display a second OmnomIRC? O.O
-
I could make it work with only registered users, if you want.
Edit: JosJuice, I think it will remove the original OmnomIRC, and replace it. But who is going to use this code when Omnom is back?
