After allowing Playstation 3 owners to jailbreak their console with a TI-84 Plus calculator (http://ourl.ca/6956) in early September, BrandonW now made it possible with the TI-89 Titanium (http://brandonw.net/ps3jb89/) as well!
Although it is not as impressive as a PS3 port of Wacky Fun Random Numbar Generator v1.00000069 (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/3/38/38229.html) and threatens that development scene with potential console ports of popular TI-83 Plus quadratic solvers (http://www.ticalc.org/pub/83plus/basic/math/quadratic/), it is still a major achievement in the TI community and the technology world, proving once again that calculators are not just useful for maths.
Here you can get PS3JB89 (http://brandonw.net/ps3jb89/)!

Nice, TI's gonna get sued by Sony someday :D

It would be quite funny to see. Although that could possibly bring legal/career consequences on Brandon Wilson and even more pressure on not allowing any 3rd party machine code on all calculators. And many other problems if Sony won, like the liberty we have on the devices we bought could be reduced...

I already knew about that, an application that jailbreaks the PS3.
Download it here for ti.84plus silver edition:

Yeah, that was posted here (http://ourl.ca/6956). This news post is a totally different one, using a TI-89 Titanium :)

:O NSpire! NSpire! NSpire!

Very nice! Excellent job, as always, BrandonW! :)
-
:O NSpire! NSpire! NSpire!
Before thinking of jailbreaking a PS3 with a TI-Nspire, we need to fully jailbreak the TI-Nspire itself!

Yeah, that's right ;)
-
Hah, good job, BrandonW!
-
This is cool. 8)
What exactly does "jailbreaking" a PS3 allow you to do?
-
A lot of random stuff -- Wii games, Linux, and a lot of other stuff. Now imagine that for the Nspire...
-
You can play Wii games on a jailbroken PS3?
-
Oh, whoops, it was fake news ... and you'd think I'd realize that :D

LOL... Well... You had me going there too.
-
Congratulations, Brandon! Have you been putting that USB analyzer to good use? :D
Can't wait for more, and possible further knowledge from you on the 84+(SE) USB port ;D
-
And once more BrandonW shows he is smarter than all TI's programmers put together.

What about myself? ???
/me cries
j/k you are right I think ;D

It enables it to run third-party applications. Same thing than with the TI-92 years ago, and same thing as with Ndless and the TI-Nspire. Ndless is a tool to jailbreak your TI-Nspire. ;)
-
@BrandonW, any plans to port anything other than just PS3JB to the TI-89?
-
Now they should jailbreak a Nspire with a 84 or a Titanium ;)
//It would be EPIC
-
Well, the Nspire is already jailbroken with Ndless.
-
it'd be pretty awesome if we could have a iPod jailbreaker for calcs as well. :P

Not by a 89 Titanium yet...
//I know there is no need for this, but still it would be amazing to see
-
Even better if you could do it with a Casio calc. :P

http://brandonw.net/calcstuff/iPhone8x.zip (http://brandonw.net/calcstuff/iPhone8x.zip)
>What is it?
This is a TI-84 Plus/Silver Edition Flash application that initializes an iPhone/iPod Touch device and sends "run rs\n" through the control pipe.
I don't think this is quite the same thing (then again, I don't know anything about iPhone/iPod devices), but...
-
Wow. How many jailbreaks is BrandonW working on? :o
-
By that, do you mean Casio Prizm?
*imagines news*
"PS3 jailbroken using a Casio FX260SOLAR!
XBOX360 jailbroken using a Sharp EL-233SB!!
iTouch still to be jailbroken, a TI-30XA is being programmed right now."
-
The question is, which jailbreaks is BrandonW not working on? :P
EDIT:No, Darl, I was talking about jailbreaking the Nspire with a Casio calc
-
Can't believe I missed this..
This is awesome! Way to go BrandonW!
-
Even better if you could do it with a Casio calc. :P
Now that would be funny. Jailbreaking a TI-Nspire with a Casio ;D

TI's final irony...
I wonder if the Casio Prizm will need jailbreaking to do ASM.
-
I hope not. I don't think it will support stuff like Asm(), though. Everything ASM-related will most likely be like on the TI-73, in the form of Flash APPs. I hope they will create a SDK so people can write their own apps.
-
I hope that that device can do more than just ASM, I'd be wanting C to unlock it to it's full potential.
-
Do you mean the PS3 or the Prizm? From what I gather, if Casio opens it to 3rd party dev, I think it will either be C or C++, like the Casio FX-9860G and the Classpad series.
